Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
As the crimson mist slowly dispersed, a vast tide of taxi-like soldiers burst into view.
They raised their halberds and shouted in perfect unison, armor and weapons clanging like thunder.
Beneath their feet lay a volcanic field of molten lava, dotted with the occasional geyser of scalding steam.
Even in such hostile terrain their spirits soared, brimming with fierce battle-lust.
That alone was startling, yet it perfectly showcased the perverse strangeness of Slaughter City.
"People above, defy the will of heaven again and try to break our barrier, and these tens of thousands of iron hooves will trample your corpses into the dust."
The fellow's voice grew even hoarser; clad in black robes, he flailed his limbs like a man possessed.
The two Zhu sisters froze—four people against an army was hopeless, and knowing the coalition's strength made them instinctively shrink back.
Chu Feng merely murmured, "All this fuss from the so-called Imperial Coalition just to pick this filthy pit? I'd expected their tastes to be slightly higher."
He shook his head again; he'd been wrong—he shouldn't have overestimated these decadent imperial troopers. Their current antics were pure bad taste.
Zhu Zhuqing asked, puzzled yet curious, "So confident—are you sure you want to clash with them head-on?"
Ah Yin wondered the same; she had quietly tried to manipulate the power of order, but her divine force couldn't penetrate the coalition ranks, leaving her at a loss.
Chu Feng continued, "If we do fight, this place is perfect for boosting our strength. Think about it—when we entered there was no Hell Slaughter Arena, no Hell Road. It means Slaughter City's traditional stages have been completely rewritten, and right now the coalition's location is the key to getting out."
His words woke the other three; they had never considered how to leave after getting in.
Facing the army filled them with dread, but Chu Feng gave them a brand-new angle.
Survive the risks of the coalition's turf and they could surely probe its secrets and clear the zone.
Just then the black-robed charlatan opened his mouth again, and Chu Feng stopped indulging him.
After all, Chu Feng possessed every ability of the god he had enfeoffed—including several of the Blue Silver Emperor's skills.
He conjured thick, ferocious Blue Silver Grass Vines that smashed through the barrier and streaked straight downward.
"Stop him—stop him!"
The man was still yelling when a vine punched through his chest, killing him and several black-robed comrades beside him.
A Soy-Sauce Character like him had lived too long; Chu Feng's mercy had run its course.
Instantly the army erupted; tight formations rippled as iron-shod footsteps shook the volcanic ground.
But leaderless, they looked at one another with no readiness to fight—though their eyes remained locked on the four intruders above.
"Wait—we shouldn't rush down yet. So far we've only seen the coalition. Where are Emperor Xue Ye and the Star Luo royals?"
Zhu Zhuyun finally sensed something amiss; reason returned to her head.
Zhu Zhuqing echoed, "Yeah—where are they?"
Chu Feng had noticed the anomaly long ago and decided to investigate personally.
"Stay put and wait for my signal."
One man was better than four—such was Chu Feng's creed.
Ah Yin objected, "What do you mean? Think we'd hold you back?"
"Exactly. Though I never planned to tag along, now that we're here our goal is the same."
Zhu Zhuqing spoke calmly; worry flickered beneath her composure.
Zhu Zhuyun said nothing—silence is golden.
Chu Feng smiled. "Relax, I know these imperial troopers too well. When I destroyed Heaven Dou back then they were cowards—how dare they posture against me?"
His steady confidence left the other three momentarily speechless—and delivered a stunning fact.
Chu Feng had been the architect of Heaven Dou Empire's fall, but that was history, not worth dwelling on now.
At that moment Chu Feng strode into the coalition. Facing tens of thousands, he advanced with cool, heroic poise.
The soldiers glared, gripping long halberds; a breeze rattled their armor with crisp clangs.
Yet they did not move rashly; instead they opened a broad avenue leading straight to where the black-robed men had died.
The three onlookers gasped—they never expected the coalition to show Chu Feng such deference.
No—more accurately, Chu Feng's power had overwhelmed them. How mighty must that power be!
Wait—Chu Feng had done nothing, said nothing. How had he subdued tens of thousands?
Questions aside, the soldiers themselves seethed, unable to tolerate Chu Feng's unchecked arrogance.
So what was the reason?
By now Chu Feng had passed through the vast army and stepped onto a floor of black stone slabs, black-robed corpses strewn around him.
"I'm here—no need to keep hiding."
He lifted his head and spoke bluntly; instantly every soldier prostrated themselves.
"What? The soldiers are kneeling—to Chu Feng?" Zhu Zhuqing exclaimed.
"No—they kneel to that one."
Zhu Zhuyun pointed skyward.
The Red Moon poured paint-like waves of even thicker crimson mist; when it touched the ground a ten-zhang volcano erupted into being.
Magma boiled within its crater, and from it stretched a blood-colored silhouette with bat-like vicious wings.
Ah Yin frowned. "Who is that?"
Chu Feng was already speaking. "Tang Chen? I knew I'd run into you in Slaughter City."
In the original tale Tang Chen came to Slaughter City seeking a god's position. He nearly inherited the Asura God seat, but the Rakshasa God's corruption bred evil thoughts, and later the demonic Nine Headed Bloody Crimson Bat King possessed him, leaving him trapped.
Yet the Tang Chen Chu Feng saw differed from the story—his vitality looked intact, even proud.
Tang Chen grinned nastily. "Oh, you know me? Sounds like they were right—someone wants me restless."
"They?" Chu Feng already had his suspicions.
"They are my demon soldiers and generals. Lucky for me, I met them—now I lead them to seize the fate of the entire Douluo Continent."
Tang Chen spoke with wild arrogance; clearly his mind was unsound—perhaps even mad.
