Kotoamatsukami. It is the ultimate genjutsu possessed exclusively by Uchiha Shisui, arguably the strongest of its kind.
Its effect allows the user to manipulate others' thoughts so subtly that they remain unaware of the influence, permanently and completely rewriting their will and ideology.
The power is immense, but it carries a heavy burden: a cooling period of over a decade after each use, unless the user possesses the chakra of Senju Hashirama to bypass this limitation.
In the original threads of history, Shimura Danzo would successfully steal this power to manipulate the Five Kage Summit.
Later, Uchiha Itachi would program Shisui's eye with the command to "Protect Konoha," intending it for Sasuke.
Instead, during the Fourth Great Ninja War, the eye would trigger a crow inside Naruto, allowing Itachi to break free from Kabuto's control and shift the tides of the war.
As soon as Shisui revealed the existence of Kotoamatsukami to the Konoha higher-ups, a massive shockwave ripped through the village's leadership.
Standing beside him, Uchiha Kaede realized it was already too late to stop his younger cousin.
Rather than de-escalating the situation, this revelation acted as a catalyst, intensifying the friction between the Uchiha clan and the village.
The Rising Tide of Conflict
For four years, Kaede and Shisui had served in the Anbu, executing countless missions. Throughout it all, Shisui never wavered in his efforts to bridge the gap between the clan and the village.
However, the shadow of the Nine-Tails' attack years prior still loomed large. The village elders remained convinced of Uchiha involvement, while the clan grew increasingly resentful of their forced isolation and constant surveillance.
Recently, a third clansman had joined their ranks in the Anbu: Uchiha Itachi.
Itachi, who had awakened his Sharingan at a young age, displayed talent that earned the respect of his captain, Hatake Kakashi.
His brilliance was so undeniable that he was soon seconded to work directly under Shimura Danzo. Itachi's growth rivaled that of "Shisui of the Body Flicker," possessing both terrifying strength and a cold, analytical mind.
But Itachi's position was precarious. He stood as a bridge between the Uchiha and the village, acting as a double agent caught in the crossfire of two escalating powers.
The Mission to Monitor
The suspicion within the clan had reached a breaking point. Uchiha Fugaku, the clan leader, no longer trusted Itachi, fearing he had been brainwashed by the "Will of Fire." That night, Fugaku summoned Kaede and Shisui for a private meeting.
"Shisui, I want you to keep a close eye on Itachi's every move," Fugaku commanded.
Shisui was tasked with monitoring Itachi not only because they were close, but because Shisui was currently recognized as the clan's strongest warrior.
As for Kaede, he had spent years being intentionally low-key. Most assumed he was still at the Three-Tomoe Sharingan stage. Fugaku included him in the mission primarily because he knew how much Shisui valued and relied on his older cousin.
"Kaede, you will assist Shisui. Two pairs of Sharingan are better than one when dealing with a talent like Itachi."
Fugaku remained ignorant of Shisui's secret meeting with the elders or his plan to use Kotoamatsukami to "brainwash" the clan into peace. He still believed he held the reins of the situation.
"Understood," Kaede replied, his voice neutral.
The Silent Observer
As they left Fugaku's residence, Kaede looked at the moonlit path. He knew this game was entering its final, most dangerous phase. Everyone was now hunting for Shisui's eyes.
Though Kaede cared deeply for his "mother" in the clan and for Shisui, he was still a split body of Aoki Shiraishi. While his personality was distinct, his perspective was fundamentally rooted in the "Grand Scheme."
"Shisui, how do you really feel about this?" Kaede asked.
Shisui sighed. "Itachi and I share the same vision. We just want to find a way for the family and the village to coexist in harmony."
Shisui held zero defenses against Kaede. Despite Itachi's frequent warnings that Kaede's true thoughts were unreadable and mysterious, Shisui remained open, sharing everything with his cousin.
Kaede kept his head low, his eyes shadowed. "Are you still planning to meet Danzo later?"
His voice was calm—so calm it was chilling—but Shisui failed to notice the shift in tone. "If I can just convince Lord Danzo, there's still hope for peace."
Shisui wasn't naive; he had a backup plan. While Kotoamatsukami had a long cooldown for others, as the original owner, he could use it more frequently. He believed he could use the eye to subvert the conflict entirely.
"Just be careful," Kaede said softly.
"Don't worry, I will."
The Mirror's Secret
As Shisui's silhouette vanished into the night, Kaede walked back to his modest home. He found a freshly mended tunic left on his bed by his elderly mother, who had already fallen asleep.
In the dim light of his room, Kaede stood before a mirror. The Three-Tomoe Sharingan in his eyes began to spin violently, morphing and elongating until they formed the shape of a Fuma Shuriken.
The crimson glow of the Mangekyo Sharingan illuminated the dark room.
"One Mangekyo shaped like a standard shuriken, and another shaped like a Fuma shuriken," Kaede whispered to his reflection. "What a perfect match."
