Chapter 187 - The Designated Beneficiary

Night had fallen.

By the window of an attic, Naruto, dressed in a pale moon-white robe, gazed calmly at a palace-like complex bathed in brilliant lights. Below, the streets were lively—Uchiha clansmen in dark blue, high-collared robes mingled freely with Hyūga members dressed in traditional kimono. Laughter and conversation filled the air, the scene warm and harmonious.

This was the Uchiha clan grounds.

At Sasuke's request, Naruto had ordered the Second Tsuchikage to relocate an entire mountain—one identical in scale to the Hyūga clan's territory—and rebuild the Uchiha compound atop it.

Sasuke himself had mastered Light-Weight Rock Technique, but unlike Edo Tensei bodies, his chakra reserves were insufficient to keep a mountain aloft indefinitely. For that reason, he had already instructed Uchiha members proficient in Earth Release to train relentlessly. Soon, the clan would be able to sustain its territory through their own power—just as the Hyūga did.

"It's exactly the scene that old toad foresaw," Naruto said softly to himself.

"So… have you all made your decision?"

"We have!"

Six distinct voices answered in unison from within the seal.

Naruto smiled faintly.

"Kurama, are you ready?"

There had been no reply from the Nine-Tails earlier.

"Heh. Of course I am."

Kurama laughed loudly, glaring sideways at Shukaku.

Shukaku smacked his lips and hopped next to Isobu, muttering,

"That damn fox didn't dare bet with me. Naruto really doesn't think much of his chakra."

"Idiot," Kurama sneered.

"This was agreed upon from the very beginning of my cooperation with Naruto. Without me, a one-tailed tanuki like you would've been eaten by the Demonic Statue ages ago."

"Liar!" Shukaku screeched.

"I've linked chakra with Naruto too! He doesn't judge us by tail count! To him, all Tailed Beasts are equal!"

"And I taught him Magnet Release! What did you teach him besides raw chakra, huh?!"

Mu raised his head proudly.

"I taught Naruto a Boil Release even stronger than Han's."

Son Gokū clenched his fist, grinning.

"I taught him Lava Release too!"

Chōmei glanced at Kurama. He'd been about to mention Naruto's ability to fly using his chakra—but after considering Naruto's collection of kekkei genkai, quietly buried his head beneath his wings.

As for Isobu, he had already rolled aside to spectate peacefully alongside Saiken.

"Tch."

Kurama scoffed.

"Not worth arguing with you idiots."

Reality

Behind Naruto on the attic floor stood Kushina and Minato.

Kushina's face glowed with excitement.

Minato, however, looked deeply troubled.

"Naruto, let's go," Kushina urged.

"The ceremony is about to begin! Karin and Hinata are already inside—everyone's waiting for you as the witness!"

She reached for Naruto's hand—then hesitated, suddenly remembering something, and instead clasped Minato's hand tightly.

Naruto nodded, glanced once at the full moon hanging high above, and turned toward the door.

As he stepped out, Minato quickly pulled Kushina back.

"Hm?" she asked, puzzled.

"…Let's go," Minato sighed heavily.

He remembered what he had seen in the Great Toad Sage's memories—and his heart sank.

They descended the attic and were guided by two Uchiha to a plaza roughly the size of a basketball court.

At its center stood a square altar, behind it a towering stone monument engraved with the Uchiha fan crest.

The left side of the plaza was filled entirely with Uchiha clansmen.

The right side seated the honored guests.

At the highest point, two seats stood empty.

Sasuke, flanked by Fugaku and Mikoto, waited at the entrance. Itachi was nowhere to be seen.

The moment Naruto's family appeared, they stepped forward.

"Please, take your seats," Sasuke said solemnly.

Fugaku and Mikoto remained standing behind him.

Curiously, Kushina and Minato also remained standing behind Naruto.

Naruto smiled faintly and took the seat on the right. Sasuke then sat on the left. Only then did Fugaku, Mikoto, Kushina, and Minato take their places to the side.

"Congratulations," Naruto said.

"You're now the head of the Uchiha clan."

"My father and the clan forced the title on me," Sasuke replied.

"As they should," Naruto said calmly.

"They only live again because of you."

"…There's something I need to discuss with you later," Sasuke added.

"You already know what it is."

"Yes," Naruto replied lightly.

"And I already have my answer. Whether you'll accept it is another matter."

Their exchange ended.

Suddenly, the altar trembled.

A hole opened at its center.

From it, a man rose—kneeling.

"Danzo…!" Hiashi muttered coldly.

"So even he ends up like this."

Beside him, Hizashi's face twisted with hatred. He now knew the full truth of the past.

Few present recognized Danzo. Even some resurrected Uchiha found him unfamiliar.

But Sasuke had already told them—Danzo had been the one who ordered the massacre.

The guests watched in silence, confused but respectful.

Then—

Danzo moved.

He raised his head toward the Uchiha monument, pulled a gleaming short blade from his sleeve, and drove it into his own abdomen without hesitation.

Thud.

His body collapsed.

Blood flooded the altar.

"I knew this would happen," Naruto said mildly.

"But you could've let him repent—at least once."

"He has no right to repent," Sasuke replied coldly.

"From now on, he will atone eternally."

"A waste," Naruto said, watching the corpse sink into the altar.

"If he's already a resurrection engine, why waste a Sharingan?"

Sasuke's eye twitched.

He stood.

Naruto rose beside him.

From the surrounding walls, massive banners bearing the Uchiha crest unfurled.

Sasuke stepped forward and snapped his fingers.

A spark landed on the altar.

WHOOM!

Flames roared skyward.

"The Uchiha are reborn!"

Sasuke's voice rang cold and absolute.

"The Uchiha are reborn!"

The clan erupted in cheers.

The banquet began.

At the same moment, within the Mirror World, Naruto opened Ido's data interface.

The Trap Closes

"Naruto… what are you doing?"

Minato approached quietly while Kushina spoke with Mikoto.

"What I'm doing doesn't matter to you," Naruto replied evenly.

"Because aside from the person involved, no one will ever know what truly happened."

He waved to Hinata and Kaede at another table.

"And besides… it's already begun."

Sasuke stared upward in the Mirror World.

Two floating panels hovered before him.

One showed the banquet—guests laughing, talking to empty air.

The other made his blood freeze.

His parents.

His clan.

All kneeling.

Even Itachi, blind and imprisoned, leapt down from a tower and knelt before Naruto and Sasuke.

Sasuke realized—he couldn't move.

A deep, primal dread took hold.

"What are you doing?!"

"You already know," Naruto replied calmly.

A third panel appeared.

It displayed Sasuke's own thoughts—laid bare.

"You never truly cared about the Uchiha as a clan," Naruto said.

"You cared only about your parents. About your brother. About having a complete family."

"As a child, you were happiest when your father praised you. Even your admiration for Itachi came from wanting to hear: 'You're my son.'"

"You got everything you wanted. The clan's rebirth was never part of your plan—you know yourself well enough to understand that you alone could never sustain the Uchiha."

Then—

A bolt of lightning pierced Itachi's heart on the screen.

Sasuke screamed.

"I'LL KILL YOU—!"

His Sharingan flared—but no jutsu responded.

"You spared Itachi under the excuse of atonement," Naruto said calmly.

"But let's be honest. Other than that Storm Release forbidden technique… you can't even get past my shadow clone."

Lightning rained down.

Uchiha fell in waves.

Ice blades followed.

Only Fugaku and Mikoto remained.

"STOP!!"

Sasuke's body stood rigid, forced upright.

"Does it feel like fate keeps mocking you?" Naruto asked softly.

"I know that feeling very well."

"…Why?" Sasuke whispered.

"Because you were chosen," Naruto said regretfully.

"But I invested too much in you and saw no acceptable return."

"So you're no longer useful."

"I'm taking everything back—returning you to your original fate."

Fugaku and Mikoto fell.

Sasuke's eyes went dull.

A gate of light swallowed him.

Reality

Sasuke stood motionless, staring at the corpses.

No chakra stirred.

Naruto frowned.

"Still not enough? Maybe he should've killed them himself…"

Then—

A massive surge of chakra exploded outward.

A purple skeletal Susanoo rose into the sky.

Naruto's eyes narrowed.

"…No."

Sasuke's eyes still bore three tomoe.

"But there's a ring."

The Susanoo's fist came crashing down.

"DIE!!"
