The afternoon sun hung low over the Hidden Leaf Village, casting an amber glaze across the traditional wooden rooftops and the stone faces of the Hokage Monument. A gentle, autumnal breeze rustled the golden leaves of the maple trees lining the main streets, carrying the faint, savory scent of roasting sweet potatoes from a nearby vendor cart. The weather was crisp—a perfect balance of lingering summer warmth and the sharp, invigorating bite of the approaching cold season.
Yet, inside the sprawling, historically serene grounds of the Senju compound, the atmosphere was anything but peaceful.
A full week had passed since the explosive conclusion of the Demon Country mission. With the Fifth Hokage's official authorization, Priestess Shion had taken up residence within the guest quarters of the Senju estate. For the first few days, her arrival had sparked a silent, smoldering war of territorial glances between her, Ino Yamanaka, and Hinata Hyūga, all of whom recognized that Shion was considerably closer to monopolizing Naruto's daily attention than they were.
However, that delicate, fragile tension was utterly shattered precisely three days later when Temari of Sunagakure strode through the main gates of Konoha.
The fierce, blond-haired kunoichi of the Sand had not arrived merely as a diplomatic envoy to deliver supplemental documents for the joint defense treaty. Tucked securely inside her leather courier pouch was an official, binding marriage alliance scroll—and the designated candidate for the union was, without exception, Uzumaki Naruto.
The political fallout within the village boundaries had been magnificent and chaotic. Master Jiraiya had literally plastered his face against the administrative office wall after Tsunade delivered a blistering, reflex-driven haymaker to his jaw upon hearing his lecherous commentary on her nephew's burgeoning "harem." Meanwhile, Kakashi Hatake had suffered a dramatic, theatrical nosebleed right in the middle of a tactical briefing—the visual manifestation of a lifelong dream cultivated entirely from reading his mentor's adult novels.
Initially, Shion had been struck dumb with shock upon discovering that yet another high-ranking foreign princess had staked a claim on the blond Jinchūriki. But as the days rolled on, the four young women—Ino, Hinata, Temari, and Shion—inevitably forged a strange, formidable alliance. United by their shared realization that Naruto was utterly oblivious to the subtler nuances of romance, they had quickly transitioned from tense rivals to a terrifying, unified sisterhood.
The Senju compound had subsequently transformed into a boot camp. Ino and Hinata spent the majority of their mornings sparring fiercely with Temari, whose devastating wind-release techniques pushed their close-quarters endurance to absolute limits. Before long, they had dragged Shion into the brutal conditioning routines as well. Recognizing that Shion's divine priestess chakra possessed latent destructive potential if refined correctly, Tsunade had officially placed Shizune and the lethal poison-master Anko Mitarashi in charge of their physical and medical conditioning.
While the courtyard of the Senju estate echoed with the sounds of rigorous kunoichi training, Naruto himself was currently occupying a quiet, secluded corner of the compound's training yard, miles away from the domestic storm.
SWOOSH!
A sharp, silver arc of high-speed steel cleaved through the air.
CLANG!
A second later, a high-grade chakra-metal katana shattered into a dozen glittering fragments, its pieces raining down onto the manicured grass.
Naruto stood in the center of the cratered training ring, letting out a long, exhausted sigh as he stared down at the ruined hilt in his hand. He tossed the broken metal aside, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead.
"Test number forty-four... also failed," Naruto muttered, shaking his head.
Deep within the dark recesses of his mindscape, Kurama shifted his massive, fur-covered bulk, letting out a heavy, rumbling sigh that echoed like distant thunder.
'Give it up, brat,' Kurama's voice vibrated through Naruto's consciousness. 'If the Ninth Cutter—a blade forged from my own chakra and the absolute highest-grade resonating chakra-metal of our era, tempered directly by Mito Uzumaki's own hands—couldn't endure your output, there is zero chance a standard shinobi blade can handle your current baseline.'
Naruto crossed his arms, leaning back slightly. 'Then where am I supposed to find a weapon that can keep up with me, Kurama?'
'The answer is painfully obvious, idiot. Go back to where the first blade came from.'
Naruto raised an eyebrow mentally. 'Uzukagure?'
'Exactly,' Kurama grunted, resting his massive chin on his front paws. 'Your clone and Karin have been meticulously excavating the ruins of your ancestral homeland for weeks now, cataloging old scrolls and securing the remaining vaults. I refuse to believe the premier weapons-master clan of the shinobi world didn't stash a few divine-grade prototypes in their deep-storage armories.'
'I've already located almost all the registered public vaults, Kurama,' Naruto argued internally. 'None of them contain a blade suited for my specific chakra signature. Karin is happy enough swimming in medical texts and high-tier Uzumaki sealing scrolls, but a sword is a different story.'
'Don't lie to yourself, brat,' Kurama sneered softly. 'You looted plenty of high-tier techniques from those vaults yourself—how else do you think you mastered the Adamantine Sealing Chains against Mōryō?'
Naruto chuckled quietly. 'Fair enough. Looks like I need to plan a trip to the Land of Whirlpools.'
Deciding to act immediately, Naruto walked back inside his quarters within the main house. He tossed a few essential gear items—military rations, sealing scrolls, and a fresh change of clothes—into his pack.
Focusing his chakra, he concentrated on a mental ping. With a soft poof, a Shadow Clone he had stationed back at the temporary camp in Uzukagure was abruptly dispelled. In an instant, a massive wave of localized memories rushed back into his frontal lobe—the sound of crashing ocean waves against the rocky shore, the smell of damp salt, and the quiet rustle of sea grass blowing through the ruined stone arches of the ancient village.
Satisfied that the coastal perimeter was entirely secure, Naruto formed a single hand seal in his room, reinforcing his chakra network with heavy resistance seals to anchor his spatial coordinates.
FLASH!
In a brilliant streak of golden light, he utilized the Flying Raijin, vanishing from Konoha and materializing instantly thousands of miles away on the shattered shores of the Land of Whirlpools.
The coastal air of Uzukagure was thick with the heavy, salty tang of the open ocean.
Gale-force winds swept off the grey expanse of the sea, howling through the hollow, skeletal stone frames of the collapsed multi-story pagodas and crashing violently against the jagged seawalls. The turbulent water churned in a chaotic dance of white foam and deep, indigo currents, beating an endless, rhythmic war drum against the ancient foundations of the ruined city.
Landing on the wooden deck of a newly constructed, sturdy wooden home, Naruto immediately noticed the drastic architectural upgrade. The makeshift canvas tent from his first visit had been entirely replaced by a well-crafted, traditional Wood-Release cabin—a direct result of the structural insights Naruto had inherited from Hashirama Senju's lingering soul.
Pushing open the sliding wooden door, Naruto stepped inside the warm, well-lit study room.
Surrounded by towering stacks of aged parchment scrolls, ancient medical tomes, and glowing sealing arrays sat Karin Uzumaki. She had completely discarded her standard Sound Village attire, now wearing a comfortable, dark-red kimono-style shinobi tunic, her vibrant crimson hair tied back neatly with a black ribbon.
Karin didn't even bother lifting her head from the massive medical scroll unrolled across her desk, her quill scratching furiously against the paper.
"So," Karin spoke smoothly, her voice laced with casual familiarity, "how is your little vacation going in Konoha? Did the princesses finally stop trying to scratch each other's eyes out over you?"
Naruto leaned casually against the wooden doorframe, stuffing his hands into his pockets. "It's... a work in progress. Let's just say my schedule is pretty packed."
Karin finally lifted her head, turning around on her stool with a bright, pleased smirk. "Well, your timing is excellent. My research is going remarkably well. I figure within the month, I'll officially break past the Jonin-level sealing threshold."
She gestured toward the glowing blue barriers pulsing faintly around the corners of the room. "And it's genuinely wonderful to see you in the flesh again, Naruto, instead of just dealing with your loud-mouthed Shadow Clones."
"Yeah, sorry I had to leave you out here in relative isolation," Naruto apologized lightly, walking further into the room. "I know being stuck on an abandoned island isn't exactly a vacation."
"Are you kidding?" Karin snorted, turning back to her notes. "At least here I can study in absolute peace without some psycho snake-sannin breathing down my neck or ANBU assassins trying to kidnap me for my bloodline. This place is paradise."
"True, true," Naruto agreed, glancing over her shoulder at the sprawling medical formulas. "So, practically speaking, what tier of sealing mastery are you actually operating on right now?"
"In practical application, I'm at the early Jonin stage," Karin stated proudly, adjusting her glasses. "In theoretical knowledge? I'm practically scraping the lower threshold of peak Jonin."
Naruto tilted his head, a teasing glint in his blue eyes. "You do realize that peak Jonin-level Uzumaki sealing arts essentially bridge directly into low-to-mid Kage-level territory, right?"
"Duh," Karin replied with a flat, exaggerated deadpan tone. "I'm an Uzumaki, Naruto. Sealing arts are quite literally encoded in our DNA. If we couldn't eventually design Kage-level seals, we wouldn't deserve to call ourselves descendants of Uzushio."
"Can't argue with that logic," Naruto laughed. He pulled up a wooden chair and sat down opposite her, his expression suddenly sobering. "Actually... that brings me to why I'm here."
Karin stopped writing, her crimson eyes narrowing slightly as she sensed the sudden shift in his tone. "Did something happen?"
"I broke the Ninth Cutter."
The moment those words left his mouth, Karin went completely rigid.
For two full seconds, the room was dead silent, save for the howling wind outside the window. Then, Karin stood up so fast her wooden stool clattered backward onto the floorboards.
In a terrifying blur of motion, she vaulted across the desk, grabbed Naruto by the front of his orange jacket, yanked him forward, and delivered a vicious, bone-crunching headbutt straight to his forehead.
CRACK!
"GYAAAH!" Naruto yelled, clutching his forehead as he reeled backward in his chair. "What the hell was that for?!"
Before he could even recover, Karin channeled a concentrated burst of medical chakra into her right fist and slammed a devastating hammer-punch directly down onto the top of his head.
BOOM!
"You absolute idiot!" Karin shrieked, her face turning bright red with pure, unadulterated rage as veins bulged at her temples. "You completely destroyed one of the most sacred, irreplaceable relics of the entire Uzumaki clan?!"
"It wasn't on purpose!" Naruto groaned, rubbing the massive, swelling bump on his cranium while glaring up at her. "The blade simply couldn't handle my chakra input during the fight with Mōryō!"
"Don't you dare joke with me!" Karin snarled, standing over him with her hands clenched into tight fists. "First of all, that sword wasn't just forged by any ordinary smith—it was handcrafted by Mito Uzumaki herself, with the direct assistance of Kurama's unique chakra and her husband, Hashirama Senju—a literal master of Sage energy! Do you honestly, genuinely believe that a weapon built by the God of Shinobi and the mother of all sealing arts wouldn't be structurally fortified against Sage chakra?!"
Naruto held his hands up defensively, wincing. "Look, Karin! It wasn't just the Sage chakra or my baseline input that caused the structural failure! Let me explain!"
Karin crossed her arms, tapping her foot aggressively. "I'm listening. You better have a damn good excuse."
"When I was fighting Mōryō," Naruto explained, his tone turning serious as he recounted the battle, "I plunged my sword directly into his central core to disrupt his malice from the inside out while trying to force Natural Energy into his system. Mōryō panicked. In a desperate reflex, he flooded his own volatile, corrupted dark chakra directly into the blade."
Naruto gestured with his hands. "Think about it, Karin. You've got Kurama's divine energy, my compressed Uzumaki chakra, nature energy, and Mōryō's concentrated hatred all forcing themselves into a single sword at the exact same microsecond. It created a catastrophic atomic imbalance inside a blade that was already centuries old!"
Karin's angry glare faltered slightly, her analytical mind instantly processing the tactical reality of his words.
"I'm not saying the Ninth Cutter is completely useless scrap metal," Naruto added softly, his tone turning respectful. "In terms of baseline craftsmanship, it is still infinitely superior to any conventional blade forged in this modern era. Even now, if I were to infuse it with standard wind chakra, I could still use it to slice through the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist without breaking a sweat. It's just that... it cannot handle my full, uninhibited power anymore. If I push my Sage-Kurama output through it one more time in a high-tier combat zone, the blade will literally disintegrate into microscopic stardust."
Karin let out a long, heavy sigh, her shoulders dropping as her anger slowly subsided into a quiet, melancholy acceptance. She walked back over to her desk, picked up her fallen stool, and sat down slowly.
"Mito-sama's masterpiece..." Karin murmured, shaking her head. "If even her work couldn't survive your ridiculous power growth, then finding a replacement is going to be an absolute nightmare."
"That's why I came back to Uzukagure," Naruto said, standing up and dusting off his pants. "If there's any forge or deep-storage armory on this planet that holds the blueprint for a weapon capable of enduring an Uzumaki Sage's true output... it's hidden right here beneath our feet."
