She rolls her eyes. "You clown. I'd show you proof, but you're not worth it. It's not like you're getting out of here."
"Then why am I still alive?"
"Because it doesn't suit his purpose yet," she says lightly. "When it does… you're done."
She's still talking, still standing there like she owns the air I breathe. Her voice keeps going, but I'm not really hearing all of it anymore.
Because something else cuts through, faint sound at first ...a shuffle.
Then….a thud somewhere down the hall.
She pauses mid-sentence tilting her head slightly.
The guards shift almost immediately, alert as the sound comes again.
"What is that?" she snaps, her tone sharpening instantly. She turns to the guards, eyes narrowing.
"Go check."
They don't hesitate as two of them move out quickly, weapons ready, disappearing down the hall.
The door stays open behind them And for a moment…..It's just me and her.
