Chapter 274 - Chapter 274: Loyalty

In an unnoticed corner, the three newly joined warriors of the Warrior Unit—Litt, Bazel, and Ivanor—were currently talking with Airi and Newt about something.

"Doctor Ebson asked me to send his greetings to you," Bazel said to Airi and Newt with a smiling face.

Upon hearing the name Ebson, Airi shrank her neck unnaturally, while Newt lowered his head, the fist behind his back suddenly clenching tightly.

While enduring Ivanor's passionate gaze beside her, Airi asked Bazel, "What do you mean? What exactly is your purpose in looking for us?"

Bazel turned his head to look at Litt beside him, but Litt kept a cold expression and clearly had no intention of explaining anything. Hearing the question, he simply turned his body away. On the other side, Ivanor looked more like a lovestruck creep. Bazel shrugged helplessly—looks like he had to do the explaining himself.

Bazel: "Airi, Newt, you should both know where the power inside your bodies comes from, and you should also know who granted that power to you."

Airi and Newt looked at Bazel at the same time, and Bazel lowered his voice.

"It was Doctor Ebson who granted you the powerful Titan power. You should understand that this Titan power doesn't come from the so-called Titan Warriors the Marleyans have always relied on. Our power is stronger than theirs! More outstanding!"

Seeing that the two still had no reaction, Bazel continued.

"You've probably heard about the price of becoming a Marleyan warrior, right? A lifespan of only thirteen years. But do you know that Doctor Ebson can completely remove this flaw and allow us to forever remain warriors possessing powerful Titan power?"

Only then did Airi and Newt react. Airi opened her small mouth in shock.

"How is that possible?"

Ivanor beside them widened his eyes.

"Airi-chan's surprised expression! Good! Good! Good! So cute! I want to kiss her!!"

Automatically ignoring Ivanor's lovestruck outburst, Bazel nodded.

"Of course it's possible. Since Doctor Ebson can grant us Titan power, he can naturally remove that flaw as well. But the premise is that we must offer a certain level of loyalty."

"Loyalty? Heh. Loyalty to whom? Marley?" Newt, who had been silent the entire time, finally spoke. His voice sounded both hoarse and dry. Airi found Newt's voice very novel, because in the Warrior Unit she had almost never heard him speak this many words.

"Marley? No, no, of course not. We only need to pledge our loyalty to the Doctor. And of course, once we offer loyalty, the Doctor's reward will be far more than just solving the thirteen-year lifespan problem."

Airi sensed something unusual in Bazel's words.

"I remember Doctor Ebson is a Marleyan noble, isn't he? Doesn't he serve Marley?" Airi clearly remembered that when Doctor Ebson came to the Liberio internment zone in a suit with several Marleyan officers, he was the one who selected her to become the Sea-Diving Titan.

A glint flashed through Bazel's squinting eyes as he continued.

"For now, yes. But that may not be the case in the future."

Newt: "Is that so? Then why didn't you call that little guy who throws claws? Wasn't he created by your Doctor too?" There was faint sarcasm in Newt's voice.

But Bazel didn't care. Instead he said,

"Him? Porco? The Claw Titan? Just the Doctor's first experiment. The Doctor doesn't even think much of his power. Besides, that Porco has been tamed by the Marleyans for too long. The Doctor doesn't need someone else's loyal tool."

Bazel's words were full of disdain toward the Claw Titan, but neither Airi nor Newt refuted him. Instead, both fell into silence.

Seeing that they were still hesitating, Bazel added,

"Think it over carefully. Think about your families. Airi, you still have your younger siblings and your mother. Newt, your wife is waiting for you at home. Are you really willing to stay by their side for only thirteen years?"

Bazel's words seemed like persuasion, but Airi and Newt were not fools. They could clearly hear the threat behind the words. The deeper meaning was obvious—your families are in someone else's hands.

Helpless, Airi and Newt could only agree to Bazel's proposal and pledge their loyalty to Ebson.

"Very good. Next, we'll continue cooperating with the Marleyan Warrior Unit. After all, for now the Doctor is still considering what's best for our Marley," Bazel said with a smile.

...

"The Middle Easterners ignored our warning, sir." In the brightly lit room, Bill spoke with a cigarette in his mouth while talking to Ebson, who was busy at the laboratory table.

Hearing this, Ebson didn't react much. He calmly put down the instrument in his hand, removed his gloves, picked up a handkerchief nearby, and wiped the nonexistent sweat from his forehead.

"Is that so? Then those Middle Eastern bearded fools are even more stupid than I expected. Since they refuse to listen to advice, they can only blame themselves. Let them suffer the consequences," Ebson said calmly as he removed his white lab coat.

Bill nodded.

"Also, according to your instructions, we have already secretly taken control of the federation in the Far East. But sir, there's something I don't quite understand."

Ebson slowly folded the white lab coat and glanced at Bill.

"What is it that you don't understand?"

Bill then voiced the doubt in his heart.

"Sir, since you clearly know about the small moves of the Tybur family, why do you still tolerate them? And why help Marley in this war? You could clearly replace the Tybur family."

Ebson suddenly raised a finger and waved it, interrupting Bill.

"Don't ask too many questions. I have my own considerations. Marley, the Tybur family—whether they exist or not makes no difference to me. But their existence attracts the things I want." As he spoke, Ebson finished folding the white coat and slowly walked to the door, pulling it open in one motion. Outside the door was a beautiful landscape of clear mountains and flowing waters.

Ebson took a few intoxicated breaths of fresh air and said,

"Whether it's Marley or the Middle East, there are simply too many ignorant people in this world. The Eldians are truly useless as well. Only I—only I can bring a new future to this world. I will prove it. Just watch carefully."

When Ebson said the last sentence, he raised his head and looked at the sky. Bill, standing behind him, felt something strange. That last sentence didn't seem to be directed at him.

So who was it meant for?
