I stood at the edge of the bed, my chest heaving with every ragged breath as I stared down at Maria's pale, lifeless face. My heart felt as though it were being squeezed in a vise. Watching her lie there, completely motionless and drained of all her vibrant energy, was a terrifying torture I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
I leaned over the side of the mattress, resting my knuckles against the soft blanket beside her.
My hands were shaking. I didn't care about the pack lockdown, I didn't care about Noah, and right now, I didn't even care about the mess with Anabel.
All I cared about was the girl lying in front of us. I would willingly give up my title, my strength, my very life if it meant she would open those dark eyes, smile at me, and be completely okay. She was everything to us, and seeing her like this was tearing my soul to shreds.
