The door suddenly barged open with enough force to make me flinch, and several guards stormed into the room in perfect formation. Their heavy boots echoed against the floor as they spread out, their sharp eyes scanning every corner of the chamber. A second later, Vincent stepped inside after them, his piercing gaze immediately sweeping across the room.
The sudden intrusion caught me completely off guard—or at least that was exactly how I made it appear.
My heart pounded wildly against my chest, but I immediately widened my eyes in feigned shock, staring at the unexpected visitors as though they had interrupted an innocent moment.
Thankfully, the mask still concealed my face.
Without it, I wasn't sure I would have been able to keep my expression under control.
"And what is the meaning of this?" I demanded sharply, allowing irritation to seep into every word as I glared at them.
