Chapter 79 - CH 79: The Rule-Breaker's Courtship

The frozen earth of the territory groaned as the shield wall expanded, biting further into the eternal winter. Hye-na remained motionless before her guardian statue, the dark obsidian form of a Nether Phoenix. In a world where most human lords were granted celestial angels, the presence of a void-born phoenix was an anomaly that spoke of her heritage.

Behind her, the Azure Tiger shifted in its sleep. Each heavy breath sent arcs of blue lightning dancing across the snow-covered floor of the temple.

'Finally, my territory reached Encampment level three. At last, the expansion is beginning,' Hye-na mused. Her moment of peace was shattered by a roar and the sound of breaking wood echoing from the settlement.

She sighed, the mist of her breath lingering in the frigid air, and stepped out of the temple with her massive pet in tow. The setting sun cast long, cold shadows over the snow-draped buildings. A crowd had gathered in the central clearing—hardy beast-kin standing alongside humans wrapped in layers of heavy fur.

The crowd parted as Hye-na stepped into the moonlight, her presence commanding absolute silence. She was encased in masterwork armor of polished black and radiant gold, the metal reflecting the pale glow of the moon hanging behind her. In her right hand, she held a long, Golden-tipped spear that hummed with latent power, while her left arm bore a massive shield embossed with a golden crest. Her dark hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing a face that was as beautiful as it was cold.

Gareth, the orc lord she had forced into submission, was currently locked in a struggle with a golden-furred ape. The beast stood nearly ten feet tall, its massive frame making the seven-foot orc look like a child. The ape's golden fur was thick and lustrous, contrasting with its bare, sculpted chest. It wore three humming metallic bracelets on each wrist and a thick, ornate belt that radiated mana.

The ape stood in its brown trousers, mocking the orc with a crooked grin. It extended a massive hand, beckoning lazily with its fingers. ''Is this all you have, green-skin? You swing your arms like a clumsy girl.''

Gareth let out a guttural growl, his muscles expanding until the veins looked like they might burst through his skin. He lunged forward with a roar, but the ape merely smiled, watching the charge with the bored eyes of a master watching a child perform.

The air groaned as Gareth's fist cut a path through the falling snow, a strike capable of shattering granite. The golden ape remained motionless until the very last millisecond. A low hum emanated from the artifacts encircling its wrists, and with a fluid, effortless grace, the beast caught the orc's fist.

RUMBLE!

A thunderous crack echoed through the encampment, the sheer pressure of the halted blow sending a ripple through the snow beneath their feet. Gareth's face contorted in disbelief; it was like punching a mountain.

''You lack rhythm, orc,'' the ape rumbled, its eyes sparkling with a mischievous golden light.

With a blur of motion, the ape's powerful arm locked around Gareth's shoulder. Using the orc's own weight against him, he slammed him into the ground. The orc groaned, but before he could even begin to recover, the ape smirked and slammed him into the opposite side. The frozen ground itself groaned under the force of the impact.

The twin beast-kin who had served Hye-na since her first day squeezed her eyes shut, unable to bear the gruesome spectacle.

Sunil hoisted the orc up by one leg, dangling him like a prize. ''Wait, wait, wait... don't die just yet. I was just starting to find this interesting.''

Hye-na stepped into the circle. Beside her, the Azure Tiger released a rhythmic hum of electricity that set the onlookers' skin crawling. In an instant, the golden-furred ape's demeanor shifted. The savage warrior vanished, replaced by the bashful posture of a boy caught in the gaze of his crush. Sunil smiled, his eyes sparkling with a sudden, misplaced adoration. ''Hye-na! Did you catch that? Did you see how I dispatched this green-skinned clown for you?''

''What were my instructions regarding the preservation of my property, Sunil?'' Hye-na's voice was as sharp as a winter gale. The monstrous ape flinched, a look of genuine embarrassment washing over his golden features.

He glanced down at the cratered earth and the broken orc, then scratched his head with a sheepish grin. ''Oh... when did that happen?'' He began to whistle tunelessly, staring up at the darkening sky as if the destruction had nothing to do with him.

Gareth dragged himself to his feet, his breath hitching in his chest. ''His mana... it was a void. The moment his skin touched mine, my mana froze. My skills were dead before I could even think to use them.''

Hye-na studied the legendary creature. Sunil Dogra was a Hero-grade summon, the result of a Hero Summoning Crystal she had earned as a reward during the trial. The first time she had glimpsed his interface, her heart had nearly stopped in disbelief.

[Hero Summon]

[Name: Sunil Dogra]

Grade: Hero (Legendary Grade) | Rank: D++

Talent: Rule-Breaker (SS)

Bloodline: Golden Emperor (High-grade)

Abilities:

Sovereignty of the Void: Inflicts a Silence status on contact, preventing all mana usage and skill activation.

Unfettered Step: A high-speed dash that allows the user to pass through solid matter and magical barriers.

Emperor's Shatter: A specialized strike designed to instantly dismantle structural defenses and armor.

Artifacts: Shackles of the Golden Emperor( Legendary )

Description: Forged in a primordial epoch when the world first trembled at its own potential, the Shackles of the Golden Emperor serve a singular, grim purpose: containment. They were never intended to act as conduits for strength, but as the iron walls holding a cataclysm at bay.

The bindings are wrought from Aurex Dominion, a mythical metal that dictates the laws of reality rather than merely following them. Tempered within the screaming heart of collapsing mana storms, the shackles are etched with ancient runes of negation that systematically extinguish volatile energy.

Core Function: Absolute Suppression. The artifact acts as a regulatory stabilizer for the wielder's internal energy, transmuting raw, chaotic force into refined, manageable output. It provides a complete safeguard against mana overflow, internal corruption, and the violent backlash of excessive power.

Note: Should a single binding fail, the foundations of reality will follow.

It was a profile that should have guaranteed absolute dominance. But when the ten-foot golden ape had finally manifested, his first act wasn't an oath of loyalty—it was a clumsy, flustered compliment about her beauty. Hye-na had initially mistaken his behavior for a harmless quirk she could manage, but she quickly realized the Golden Emperor was a hopeless romantic—or more accurately, a persistent flirt.

In a mere twelve hours, he had turned her disciplined territory into a circus of failed courtships. He spent his time grandstanding for the female beast-kin and even attempted to woo her most elite scouts. The only reason he had bothered to engage Gareth was a petty spark of jealousy; he had caught a beast-kin woman smiling at the orc and decided a public humiliation was the only appropriate response.

''Sunil, enough of this nonsense,'' Hye-na said, her breath turning into a fine mist in the cold air.

The ten-foot ape immediately slumped his shoulders, looking like a kicked puppy despite his massive, gold-furred muscles. ''But Hye-na, I was just making sure no one else tries to steal your attention. A king has to protect his queen, right?''

Hye-na massaged her temples. 'Why did I get the one legendary summon that is a total headache?' she wondered.

''You are a summon, not a king. And if you lay another hand on Gareth, I will seal you back in that crystal for a week,'' she threatened, her eyes narrowing.

Sunil gasped, clutching his bare chest dramatically. ''So cruel! My heart, it is breaking!''

Despite his antics, his eyes never truly left her. Gareth, meanwhile, was helped up by two beast-kin. He looked at Sunil with a mix of fear and deep respect. The power difference was just too high.

''My lady,'' Gareth coughed, leaning on the Beast-kin. "The construction of the two new barracks has been completed. But... are we really going to join this Crimson Lord?"

Hye-na looked at the system notification still floating in the corner of her vision.

[Congratulations on joining the Apex]

''I already did,'' she said quietly. " Forget about it, we will start recruiting real warriors for the war."

Sunil grinned, his arms twitching with excitement. "Finally, I wonder if we can summon some beautiful subordinates I can meet?''

Hye-na ignored him and walked back toward the temple. The Nether Phoenix statue seemed to watch her leave, its obsidian eyes glowing with a faint, dark flame. Tomorrow, the frozen silence of her land would finally be replaced by the screams of war.
