Inside the meteor was a humanoid being radiating golden divine light.
It had no face—only a blurred outline of pure divinity.
Lancelot's ruby-like eyes locked onto it.

In 1979, the god Ego would descend upon Earth, sow divine seeds, and fall in love with Meredith Quill.
The following year, he would travel freely between the stars and Earth.
"Emma," Lancelot said coldly,
"Continue monitoring Earth through the Spirit Tower. I need complete control over Ego's movements."
With that, he opened a spatial gate and returned to his palace.
Though Ego called himself a god, in Lancelot's eyes, he was closer to a mutant.
His power was merely molecular manipulation—

Even the living planet he possessed was something he had built over billions of years by manipulating molecules.
And molecular-level control over a divine entity was exactly what Lancelot needed.
Once the lottery concluded, he planned to descend to Earth, kill Ego's avatar, and turn it into one of his six puppets.
