Chapter 105: Hostage Situation Part 2
The smoke crept beneath the door like a living thing.
Snape took a step back, his wand raised, his eyes fixated on the thin pale tendril curling along the floorboards. It moved slowly and against the draft, getting closer and closer to him.
Daphne watched this too. She had gone very still in her chair, unsure if this 'thing' was good or bad news for her.
The smoke gathered at the center of the room and then simply… stopped. It did not disperse nor rise toward the ceiling as one would expect of normal smoke.
It hung there, low to the ground, as the temperature in the room dropped by several degrees.
"Professor Snape. This is very unprofessional… kidnapping a poor student." The voice came from the smoke and echoed throughout the entire room...it was the calm voice of a woman.
One that Snape was able to recognize. "M-Madam Yafel?!" His eyes were glued to the ethereal form before him.
"Oh… that is disappointing. I wanted to have you guess a few times," Morgan said.
Snape turned his head around and looked at the door for a moment. If this witch had made it all the way here, could this mean that she had already dispatched all of his companions?
He cared little for Jugson and Macnair, but he had promised Narcissa that he would keep Draco safe.
"Who is this?" asked Daphne. "Are you a friend of my parents?" The girl hoped that was the case, because then it would mean this person came here to rescue her.
"I wouldn't really say, friend…" Morgan muttered.
"What do you want?" Snape pointed his wand at the mass of smoke, but did not shoot any spell yet. The professor wasn't even sure what kind of spell could be effective in this situation.
"I want the girl. Nothing more. Her parents are waiting for her on the floor below," Morgan said.
"My parents are here?!" Daphne tried to stand up, but the tightly secured ropes prevented her from doing so, and she almost lost her balance, making the chair tip over.
"By the way…" Morgan continued. "If you care about those two who were guarding the door, you may want to hurry up. They don't have much time," Morgan teased the professor.
Snape tensed up and made a decision. "Crucio!" He fired the curse at the center of the smoke, hoping that it would have some effect at least.
"No!" Daphne shouted, not wanting to see her rescuer going down.
As soon as the spell hit the shifting mass, it dispersed completely.
Snape was very confused. The dark smoke seemed to go in all directions and blend with the shadows of the room. How was he supposed to find her now?
Then, Snape had a sudden idea. "Lumos!" A flash of light pushed the shadows away.
"Urg!" The spell was very effective, and it forced Morgan back to her human form. The light blinded her for a moment, and she had to cover her eyes.
'This is it!' thought Snape. This was the chance he had hoped to get. "Sectumsempra!" Without hesitation, he used a curse of his own creation.
"Heh!" With a grin on her face, Morgan disappeared from the spell's path. She liked using the mist form, but it was neither her only defensive measure nor the best one she had in her arsenal.
Her powerful legs shattered the wooden floor tiles as she moved closer to Snape.
"Wha—!" The Potions professor had no time to react before feeling something hit his chest with enough force to break his ribs. The wave of pain made him fall to his knees.
Then, Morgan simply grabbed his wand arm and gave it a twist.
"Ahhh!" Snape screamed as his arm bent in an impossible angle.
Morgan caught the wand, and just as she did with her previous opponent, she snapped it in half.
Her left hand grasped at Snape's neck and lifted him up, making him scream some more.
Her right hand was ready to finish the job and take his life, but then she stopped and remembered the point of her mission. They needed to extract useful information about this Dark Lord. Harry would not be pleased if she killed them all.
She allowed Snape's body to fall back onto the ground before turning around and walking toward Daphne.
"Whoa… how did you do all of that?" Daphne's eyes were filled with admiration. "I've never seen a witch fight like that."
Morgan winked playfully at her. "I'm a very unique witch. Now… let me take care of those restraints." She gripped the magical ropes with both hands and pulled them apart with all her might.
The magical construct gave up very quickly, releasing the girl from her bounds.
"Come on, girl. Let's go downstairs," Morgan said as she walked to the door.
"Wait! What about the others? There is still Draco Malfoy and Macnair. They stayed behind when we entered this house," Daphne warned her.
"Oh, that's fine." Morgan waved at her and opened the door. "I didn't come here alone." She grabbed one of Professor Snape's legs and began to drag him out of the room while he groaned in pain.
Daphne grimaced. Despite her circumstances, she could not help but feel a bit bad for her Potions professor.
She made a lot of noise while descending the stairs while dragging Snape, because everyone's attention was already on her from the moment she went into the entrance hall.
"What are you doing with... isn't that one of Hogwarts' professors?" The voice of Harry was then heard.
Morgan glanced down at the room. She saw Harry standing over the bodies of the other two masked individuals. He had successfully secured them, just as she expected of him.
Lord and Lady Greengrass were also there, looking in her direction with anticipation until they finally spotted their daughter.
"Daphne!"
"Thank Merlin!" Both parents rushed to meet their daughter while Morgan tried to get herself out of the way.
She chuckled and looked at Harry. "See? They already gave you their thanks."
Harry huffed. "Don't start with that again. Mmmm…" He noticed something. "Where is the other one? There were supposed to be two on the upper floor."
Morgan scratched her head. "I may have accidentally killed that one… sorry!."
