Chapter 116 - Chapter 116 ‘Light and the shadows’

As we woke up early that morning. "Breaking news! The outbreak of the Anima Virus has been confirmed in the slums. Should we be worried?" The female news reporter as he shuffled the papers.

"We should say that the Demi-Humans that are injected with the Anima Virus have been the cause of over ten thousand deaths a year." A male reporter. Looks like they still fear mongering.

"Really." A woman said as she saw a Demi-human and looked at him with suspicion. It was Meg Jaws.

"Hey Meg!" Charles shouted with a smile. Meg instantly turned from growling and glaring to smiling.

"Hey Boss." Meg said.

"What with this boss stuff?" Charles asked.

"You're my sister's boss so you're mine too." Meg said with a smile.

"Okay that makes sense. Now I wanted to ask you about the Murat spear." Charles said with a calm tone. Meg visibly flinched at this. What was wrong with him? Is something wrong?

"It's a long story." Meg said with a melancholy tone in his voice.

"Why so glum?" Charles asked. Looking at Meg with a small frown on his face. I was bored so I bit down on his neck and started sucking blood. It tasted so good I was in a trance. The best blood I have ever had in my life. It was all mine.

"Well the Murat spear was originally Megado spear before he was slammed by a Murat head seven hundred years ago. Its name is Uzumaki." Meg said with a small nod. Charles looked shocked.

"A thousand years so you mean the time of the dark wars." Charles said. Those were called the bloody times where there were small fragments of humans fighting over everything. Vampires worked in small warbands. But Notable is the rise of Asura and Hellsing. Those are some of the most notable but it was also the rise of the strongest.

"During the age of darkness our clan had the spear Uzumaki but then Murat killed the Wielder and took it for himself." Meg told us Charles nodded in acknowledgment.

"Okay. I get it. But it is going to be hard to keep the spear. The Murats are one of the big six families." Charles said the big five are the founder of the City Council Alliance

"Yeah. The big five are Hellsing, Nobless, Bulwark, Murat, Adam and Starling. You should know as a Starling yourself." Meg said with a long sigh.

"Hellsing sit above them all but all of them are on the ground." Charles said. I would not say that. You're alive, your three brothers are alive. But they are all hiding or don't want to reveal their identities. I continued to sick Charles' blood. It was so good I was full. But I wanted more.

"So boss, may I be rude?" Meg asked.

"Sure what is it?" Charles questioned looking at him. As Meg bows low.

"Can I get headpats?" Meg asked. As Charles muscles tensed but did not move. As he pats Meg head a smile on his face.

"Okay Valtina, that's enough blood." Charles said his blue eyes looked into my soul. I did not want to stop. But I slowly removed myself. With a long sigh.

"I wonder if Asura fought Hellsing who would have won?" Charles asked himself. A smile was on his lips. Charles started to walk.

"See you later." Meg said as he started walking away. Charles threw up a hand.

"See you later too." Charles said his voice was carefree and happy. I wonder who will go up in the next match. Charles had a bloodthirsty smile.

"What with that face?" I asked.

"I wonder who sealed Asura? He was sealed into thirty fingers, three skulls and his six weapons." Charles said randomly. He was curious about that? Why?

"No one knows the records were destroyed in constant fighting and deaths of people." I told him only ones old enough to remember the Dark Age that I seen in the last ten years. Is me, Sebastian, Pendragon Family, Asura and Charles three older brothers. There is no one else that I know that would have lived through the Dark Age. Charles took a turn.

"Yeah your right we human seemed to destory everything we touch." Charles said.

"Your right about that." I said to him as he continued to walk and stared at us. A few respect others with fear. It was strange.

"Looks like you're getting popular." I whispered in his ear as he grimaced.

"Don't joke about that." Charles said with a low threatening voice.

"He's so hot!" A lady said.

"Like he is totally cute." Another one said. I felt jealousy flare up in my chest. I started to growl a deep and mad sound.

"I wonder if he was single?" The third lady. That made my blood boil. I wanted so badly to kill that woman but it seems as if Charles ignores the comments as he walks past them. As we enter the arena.

"Looks like you're here early." A female voice said as we looked to see Mary O'bell.

"Why are you here so early?" Charles asked.

"Because I want to. I have a chance to talk to you. It is rare you're surrounded by beings of power... Like Hellsing." Mary said softly. Her eyes were completely black.

"Okay then." Charles said. His jaw was slightly clenched. But he took a calming breath.

"Then let's talk." Mary spoke as we took steps to the private area of our team.

"So what did you want to talk to me about?" Charles asked as he closed the door. With a soft click. Mary let out a sigh.

"I wanted to ask you about Hellsing? How much do you know about him?" Mary asked with a creepy smile. I got a shiver down my spine.

"Not much other than he was an impossible strong warrior that could defeat anything." Charles said, sitting down.

"He also had a wife named Luma. The mistress of light she was only second to Hellsing himself." Mary said. Charles nodded.

"Well that makes sense. Why are you telling me this?" Charles spoke. It was almost an order.

"This is to spread the great word of Hellsing." Mary nodded with a kind smile. As she pulled out a deck of cards with a smile.

"What is with the deck?" Charles asked. As she also pulled out a small lantern with a blue glow.

"Let's play a game. Devil Deal, we each get five random cards and we place one at a time the higher number wins. Aces are high." Mary explains.

"What do I gain?" Charles questioned.

"We ask each other yes or no questions and if we lie then it turns red." Mary said, putting his hand on the lantern. As she deals the cards face down. As Charles pulled up his hand it was a two of spades, five of clubs, seven of spades, nine of diamonds, three of clubs. As Mary places a card face down. Then I placed down two spades. As they both flipped and Charles lost.

"What is your question?" I asked.

"Your parents that you live with are your true parents." Mary asked.

"Yes." Charles said. As they flicked their eyes to the lantern it stayed the same.

"Next round." I said. Feeling nervous, what did Mary know? As then Charles picked a card, a nine of diamond. Mary once again placed down her card. They both flipped their cards. She had a jack of hearts.

"Is starlight an energy you are able to use?" Mary asked with an eerie smile.

"Yes." Charles said. The lantern stayed the same. They both nodded.

"Okay next round." Charles said. As he placed down seven of spades. As Mary also placed a card face down. They flipped their cards Charles won.

"What is your question?" Mary asked.

"Is the reason why you're asking me these questions you think I am working with the Vamps?" Charles asked bluntly. Mary let out a small laugh.

"No." Mary answered. The lantern stayed the same. Charles let out a small nod. Then he placed five of the clubs. As Mary placed down a facedown card. They flipped and Charles lost again.

"Your question?" Charles asked.

"Are you related to Seris Starling?" Mary asked. Charles let out a sigh.

"Yes." Charles lied. As the lantern glowed red. Mary let out a confused laugh.

"You don't need to hide your adoption. It is quite common within high nobles." Mary reassured Charles.

"So what will let this out?" Charles said.

"I have no intention to let this news out." Mary spoke with a small laughter. They both placed down the last cards Charles three of clubs lost.

"Your last question?" Charles asked.

"I'm your type of woman?" Mary asked suddenly.

"No." Charles answered with a snarl. The lantern stayed the same. As the door knob made a noise. As it slowly opened. Niuhi walked in. Followed by Leo. Pluto Hades and Raphael showed up last. As Pluto bows to Charles. Charles smiles.

"The next match will be dangerous." Charles said. With a frown on his face.

"Why is that?" Mary asked.

"They still have the strongest Gabriel Merlin, Milla Calamitas and Nikki Rivers." Charles said.

"Virgo is no slouch." Leo also butted in.

"That's your sister right?" Charles asked.

"Yes she is." Leo answered.

"Nikki Rivers, what's so special about him?" Niuhi asked with a smile.

"He was a dangerous person who bested me." Charles interjected. Mary seemed to tense at the remark. Everyone else seemed to be put on edge.

"Okay who's ready for the next match!" Gin screamed over the microphone system. I could hear the crowd screaming. They seemed so excited for the match. Charles let out a smile.

"He guards the gates of hell. The man of Cerberus! Pluto Hades!" Gin yelled. Pluto smiled to be confident in himself. Pluto left the room. As the door shut.

"Form the red team, a queen of elements! Her name is synonymous with disaster. A being that was recommended by the 1st Division Captain! Milla Calamitas." Gin roared as I saw Charles face drain of color. Milla Calamitas was going to kill Pluto Hades. Charles was shaking.

"What's wrong?" Niuhi asked.

"She will kill Pluto Hades." Charles said. Leo looked nervous.

"What makes you say that?" Raphael asked me.

"I fought her and she destroyed everything. I barely got away thanks to Shadow holding her off for a few seconds." Leo said. Leo took a single step back. His back was against the wall. The screen flashed on. Showing Pluto and Milla standing across from each other.

"Let the match begin." Gin spoke. The crowd went wild. Pluto smiled.

"Summoning Magic: Elemental Wolves!" Pluto yelled as he summoned the grandchildren of Lobo.

"Summon Magic: Merge." Pluto said as the wolves turned into energy and formed into his armor having three wolf like heads. His weapon had dual heads. Pluto seemed much stronger. As she pulled out a simple short sword. As they clashed.

"I won't go overboard." Milla said. As she knocks down Pluto's weapon and slashes Pluto's chest. As the crimson blood rushed out of the wound as it healed. He strikes Milla's chest and it sparks against her skin. She knocked Pluto back with a large amount of wind. Pluto lands on the ground.

"Hell Style: Hunting Wolf!" Pluto said as the bident the two wolf heads glowed. Milla blocked the spear attack. With simple moves. Knocking his weapon into the ground. Milla then kicked Pluto back.

"Hell Style: Demon Wolf Chain." Pluto said. As form Milla, a shadow wolf started to bite her, restraining her.

"Cute." Milla said with a disinterest in her voice. As she walked forward. It broke all the shadow wolves.

"You're a monster in strength, dare I say you're as strong as Charles." Pluto complements. Milla looked shocked. For a second before her face returns back to normal. She let out a sigh.

"You are a servant of Charles. Then I should try and end this fight as swiftly as possible without harming you too greatly." Milla said.

"Why do you care?" Pluto asked.

"Because I would like to be on good terms with Charles." Milla said.

"Hell Style: Cerberus Howl." Pluto said as he started to glow with Chaos Energy as it covered the tip of his bident. As then it launched forward at Milla. Milla blocked it with a simple swing. Destroying the attack.

"That could be a quite strong attack." Milla said. Walking toward Pluto without a single emotion on her face.

"Hell Style: Mantle of the Devil." Pluto said. As around him darkness seemed to seep from his armor.

"That seems like you're mastering your ability." Milla said. As she stabs Pluto in the shoulder.

"I try my best to serve my master." Pluto said as he jumped back. His wound closed almost instantly. Milla appeared behind Pluto as she knocked Pluto deep into the arena floor. He got back up.

"Hell Style: Cerberus Howl." Pluto said. As Pluto started to charge up his attack. Milla then appeared behind him again. With several deep cuts on him. They started to heal his wounds. Milla kicked him but he dug his bident into the arena.

"That attack needs time to charge, it is useless if you can be stopped." Milla said.

"Hell Style: Demon Wolf Chain." Pluto said again. Once again from the shadow the shadow came out of her shadow.

"Why do you still fight on?" Milla asked. With a tilt of heads.

"Because Charles is watching I must not disappoint him." Pluto said with deadly seriousness. As he charged at Milla.

"Is that why?" Milla said. She tilted her head. Looking at Pluto with a strange feeling.

"Hell Style: Hunting Hound!" Pluto called. As the two wolf heads launched at Milla. Milla once again slashed away the attack.

"Useless give up." Milla said with a dead tone. She slowly stalked forward. Pluto muscles tensed.

"I will not." Pluto spat with a fierce determination. The fire behind his eyes glowed. Milla let out a slow sigh.

"Why is she holding back so much?" Leo asked. Breaking our attention from the fight.

"Did you say anything to her?" Mary asked, blinking a few times. Charles shakes his head.

"Nothing." Charles spoke as the lantern glowed a deep crimson.

"That thing is broken." Charles said. Pointing at the lantern that glowed a brighter red. Mary had to stifle a laugh.

"I will break it." Charles threatened as the lantern returned to normal. Charles had a smile.

"Well that was funny." Leo said. Chuckling.

"Your next." Charles warned as the lantern stayed the same. Leo instantly stopped laughing.

"Hah scared Charles does not scare me." Niuhi taunted as she snaked her arm around the back of Leo's neck. She had a mocking smile. The lantern started to glow a bright ruby color. Leo snickered at the lantern.

"Let's get back to the match. It's getting good." Raphael said as the lantern returned back to normal once again. As Milla was beating Pluto back she was clearly holding back.

"Hell Style: Hunting Hound." Pluto said as two wolves charged at Milla. Milla dodged the attack. As Milla chopped off one of Pluto's arms. It quickly regrew starting with the bone. Followed by the muscle. Then at last the skin that then got covered by the armor.

"Salamander. Burn." Milla said. As the room got hotter. Flames started to rise around Milla. A dragon of flames appeared. It was Salamander. It let out a mighty roar embers flying around the screen. Then it charged up a breath of fire. It covered the screen as then it was cut off. It turned off to black. Charles quickly opened the door. As flames rushed past the door frame.

"Damn if you should be alive." Charles snarled as he rushed out of the hallway as soon the flames died down. The hallway was completely blackened. Charles rushed to the ring. It was covered in flames. Smoke also surrounded the area.

"Pluto!" Charles called.

"You were worthy forfeit." Milla said.

"I see clearly that I am weaker. I forfeit." Pluto said calmly. The flames started to die down as we saw that Pluto was unharmed. I could see the relief on his face. Pluto walked past Charles.

"Thank you." Charles said. With a nod and Milla let out a smile.

"I am sorry master I failed you. I failed the Pendragon." Pluto said. With a solemn nod.

"You did not fail me." Charles said. As we turned to see a single tear roll down his cheek.

"Thank you, I need that." Pluto said. He started to walk deeper down the tunnel.

"Well then it looks like Pluto is still alive we can call that a win." Mary said as she passed Pluto. Charles had a slow nod.

"Well then I have to have dinner with your father." Charles said as we walked past her. She turned to follow us. She was so happy it was like she was almost skipping. It was weird why she was so happy.

"Yes you do and you won't be getting out of this." Mary said. As Charles looked behind her she smiled as it was so wide. Mary then took the lead. Charles' eyes still looked onto Mary's back.

"Yeah, let's get this over with." Charles said. As we were led outside. It was a massive cathedral. The Division 11 barracks. As we walked in we walked past several Division 11 hunters. They were reading, writing and cleaning. As we pasted statues of Hellsing and paintings of him slaying versus Chaos Beast. One of them was in the center. It was surrounded by gold and it was beautiful. It was of Van Hellsing fighting an all white dragon. It was him fighting Lux.

"It is a wonderful painting with a good eye." Mary commented with a smile. As she stopped too. Charles then started to walk again. Mary looked shocked. But then started to follow. Before she started to walk in front of Charles again.

"This is a meeting I would not like to be late too." Charles said with a flat tone. He was drilled never to be late. As we passed through a chapel area. Oak doors seemed to flank both sides; the walls were lined with gold. I could feel Charles' rage. They lined the walls with gold while others starved.

"This amazing building is small compared to the one we have in the far east. In the holy empire." Mary said. Not looking at Charles.

"Yeah." Charles said through grit teeth. Mary seemed not to notice or maybe she did not care.

"Hellsing was the savour of mankind." Mary said. As we saw a massive door it was so much fancier. Then the others. Charles glupped. It was still so far away. But it was covered in gold and silver. I could feel Charles' muscles tense.

"Don't fear he wants to meet you." Mary said. A small smile on her face.

"But why?" Charles asked. Mary shrugged.

"Well you were Alexander's friend, he talked so much about you in his letters. Charles Von Pendragon." Mary said. The door was still so far away.

"How did you know?" Charles questioned.

"Others may be dumb but he is not." Mary spoke. Well that was at least an answer.

"Okay that makes sense." Charles said.

"I hope this meeting will go well." Mary said. Looking at Charles her eyes were black still. Like a void that wanted to absorb every detail.

"Alexander, do you know how he died?" Charles spoke through his teeth.

"Not a clue." Mary answered. With a shrug.

"Well then if you find anything out then let me know losing him was such a loss." Charles said through his teeth.

"Looks like we are here." Mary said as she knocked on the door. It was silent for a few seconds.

"Come in." A clear voice said as she slowly opened the door allowing us to walk past her as the door shut with a click. The man inside looked like he had seen a ghost of some sort.

"Hello I am Charles Von Pendragon." Charles said with a bow.

"Thank you for accepting my summons," He said. "I am Martin O'bell, the leader of the 11th Division and the father of three great kids." Martin said with a smile on his face.

"It was no problem." Charles said with a calm tone. The room was large and was covered in fancy and expensive furniture.

"Where are my manners please take a seat." Martin said with a gentle and fatherly smile. Charles started to take a seat.

"May I ask the reason why I was summoned." Charles said.

"I wanted to talk about the House of Evolution." Martin said as Charles knuckles were white.

"What about them?" Charles asked his tone was serious. It seemed to drop the temperature by a few degrees.

"Well I understand you hate them too." Martin said with a cold smile. As he takes a sip of wine.

"Yeah, so what about them?" Charles asked.

"Well I was going to ask if there are any weaknesses that you know about them?" Martin asked with a whimsical smile.

"I have little information on them. I am sorry, Lord Martin." Charles said with a small nod.

"Don't worry about kids like you are our future and a legacy of the past." Martin said as he took a small sip of his wine. As a few nuns walked in, setting food in front of Charles and Martin.

"Such wise words." Charles flattered. Martin seemed to nod.

"I see the Pendragon have trained you well." Martin said with a smile. He was swirling his wine. Then he slowly placed it down.

"Anything else you have asked me?" Charles asked Martin smile widened.

"Are any of my children your type?" Martin asked. Charles seemed shocked at the sudden question.

"Nope well I have to get going." Charles said as he started to leave. As he punched in some number on his phone.

"Hi brother." Umbra's voice came through on the line.

"Can you pick me up?" Charles asked. As we left the massive barrack.

"Sure." Umbra said. As the air started to crack then a void burst showing Umbra. As he hangs up the call Charles walks into the void. Suddenly we appeared at home.

"Thanks." Charles said.

"No problem." Umbra said. We looked where it should be. We threw the hidden safe under the floor board.

"Where is it?" Charles asked himself. The Anima Virus cure? When could this have happened?

"When did this happen?" Charles asked himself.

"What's wrong?" Arthur asked. As his eyes widened wider than dinner plates.

"The Anima cure." Charles growls. It was most likely Lux took it when the manor was being attacked.

"How did they get it?" Arthur asked.

"No, the question is when?" Charles said. His tone was dangerously low.

"The Pendragon manor attacked or during your party." Arthur answered.

"My thoughts exactly." Charles said.

"Great, now we have to go into the northern fringe." Arthur said. Charles seemed to get even angrier at this comment. He was not wrong.

"Yeah." Charles said.

"You almost died last time." Arthur said with sadness. Northern Fringe is hell given shape. Where Demi-Human like Dark Elves, Chaos Inhabitants like Orc, Harpies and Musman live. All of them battling constantly. Ogre tribes, Chaos Beast roam free.

"I will have to go up there." Charles spoke.

"B-rank Chaos Beast roams up there as prey." Arthur mentioned. Not even Hellsing could conquer the Northern Fringe. He could only quell it.

"Yet that is the place the cure is found." Charles said coldly.

"So I will go with you." Arthur said.

"Thank you we leave after the tournament on the long weekend." Charles said. I forgot that after the tournament there will be a month off for the participants. It was something to allow them to recharge after such a stressful tournament.

"I will prepare." Arthur said with a grim smile on his face. Charles nodded before walking off.

"Are sure this is a wise move?" I asked Charles.

"It a dumb one," Charles told me. Looking at me with eyes filled with determination. "But it's the only one I can make."

"Okay then." I said softly. House of Evolution has been making its moves.

"Soon we will attack the House of Evolution." Charles made a promise to himself.

"You shall rip them to sunder." I told him. Nuzzling his neck.

"That I will." Charles said.

"What will be their next move?" I asked him.

"Something with Demi-Humans." Charles said.

"Brother. I have some news." Lux said.

"What is it?" Charles asked. His glare seemed to make Lux even happier.

"I have some of the Anima cure, do you want it?" Lux said.

"What is the cost?" Charles questioned.

"Well since your my brother. I want a kiss on my cheek and one IUO." Lux said with a massive smile.

"What the IUO?" Charles asked.

"Something in the future." Lux said with a sing-song voice.

"Fine." Charles said as he kissed Lux cheek. Lux wild eyes widened further.

"Thank you brother, the IUO will be called in later." Lux said, waving as several crates of the Anima cure were on the floor.

"I bought these off some of the Murat." Lux said. As he left. All of Sebastian's children were trying to gain a closer bond to Charles. Since Charles has Sebastian's favor and can be used to kill the other siblings.

"The Murats have their deal with the House of Evolution." Charles said his knuckles were Snow White.

"What happened?" Arthur asked.

"The trip was canceled. Hide these where the House of Evolution won't find them." Charles commanded as Arthur nodded. As he started to hide them it was late into the night.

"We should head to bed after this." Arthur said as Charles nodded with a yawn. Taking steps to his own bed.

"I wonder what the next match would be?" Charles asked himself. Looking at the moon through his open window. I shrugged.

"I have no clue but I am sure that it will be fun." I said looking at the complete full moon. Not a cloud in sight. It is truly beautiful. As Charles starts to change. Then getting back into his bed. Wait, Darkblood was gone? Did someone touch it?
