Chapter 158 - Chapter 35: The Sect That Studies Broken Truth

The city did not settle after the fight.

It reacted.

Yuanshi Border City continued existing in overlapping layers:

one version rebuilding calmly

one version still showing battle damage

one version already forgetting the fight ever happened

But now_

all three versions had one shared point of focus.

Tiān Lán.

And the girl beside him.

Lian Yue.

Inside Tiān Lán, the Mirror spoke:

"The fracture is stabilizing around your presence again."

Tiān Lán glanced slightly at the street.

"…It's not stabilizing."

A pause.

"It's organizing around me again."

"Yes."

Tiān Lán walked deeper into Yuanshi City.

Lian Yue followed without hesitation.

The Echo Hunter from earlier did not attack again.

He only watched.

As if recalculating something.

Lian Yue broke the silence first.

"You didn't kill him."

Tiān Lán replied calmly.

"He wasn't the problem."

A pause.

"The world he came from was."

She looked at him for a moment.

"…That sounds dangerous."

Tiān Lán didn't respond immediately.

Because she wasn't wrong.

They reached a restricted district.

Unlike the fractured streets_

this area was consistent.

Too consistent.

Buildings aligned perfectly.

No overlapping timelines.

No distortion.

Just silence.

A gate stood ahead.

Carved with a symbol:

"Echo Research Sect — Department of Unified Truth"

Lian Yue frowned.

"This place… feels wrong in a different way."

Tiān Lán nodded slightly.

"…Because it refuses all versions except one."

The gate opened by itself.

Not welcoming.

Not hostile.

Just aware.

Inside, they were greeted by scholars in white-grey robes.

Each carried crystal scrolls that flickered with unstable memories.

A man stepped forward.

Calm.

Controlled.

Power hidden beneath restraint.

"I am Senior Scholar Wei Zhaolin."

His eyes landed on Tiān Lán.

"So you are the 'multi-anchor anomaly'."

Tiān Lán responded flatly.

"That name is too long."

A faint pause in the room.

Then Wei Zhaolin continued:

"We study fractured truth phenomena."

A gesture to the surroundings.

"This district exists by enforcing a single stabilized interpretation layer."

A pause.

"And you are interfering with that stability."

Lian Yue spoke quietly.

"You're forcing reality to agree with you."

Wei Zhaolin did not deny it.

"Yes."

He looked at her.

"And it works."

Then back to Tiān Lán.

"But you… are incompatible with single-layer truth enforcement."

Inside Tiān Lán:

_MIRROR_

"They are not suppressing you."

"They are isolating you."

Tiān Lán narrowed his eyes slightly.

"…Why?"

Wei Zhaolin answered.

"Because fractured reality began spreading after your arrival."

A pause.

"And if left unchecked…"

His tone lowered slightly.

"…this entire region will lose unified existence."

Silence.

That was the first time the city sounded serious.

Wei Zhaolin raised a hand.

Crystal screens appeared mid-air.

Showing:

multiple overlapping timelines

cities splitting into variants

people existing differently in parallel states

"This is not natural."

A pause.

"It started after an unknown anchor event."

His gaze sharpened.

"And all records converge toward one point."

He looked directly at Tiān Lán.

"You."

The scholars around him shifted slightly.

Not attacking.

But prepared.

Lian Yue stepped half a step closer to Tiān Lán.

Not afraid.

Just steady.

"I don't think he's the cause."

Wei Zhaolin replied calmly.

"Doesn't matter."

A pause.

"If reality cannot unify around him…"

"Then he must be removed from the unified layer."

_MIRROR_

"They are not your enemies."

"They are the system attempting to preserve a single version of existence."

Tiān Lán exhaled slowly.

"…So this is what replaces the system."

A pause.

"People who think only one truth is allowed."

Wei Zhaolin raised his hand slightly.

Behind him, the entire Research Sect activated formation arrays.

But not attack formations.

Truth Stabilization Arrays.

The city outside flickered_

as if the entire region was being forced into one interpretation layer.

Lian Yue whispered:

"…If they succeed, everything outside this place will lose the other versions."

Tiān Lán looked at the glowing formation network.

Then at the fractured city behind them.

Then at Lian Yue.

"…So this is the choice."

A pause.

"Let them stabilize everything…"

"…or let the world stay broken."

The Mirror spoke softly:

"Or redefine what 'stable' means."

The arrays began activating.

Reality pressure increased.

The world started collapsing into one forced truth layer again.

Tiān Lán raised his hand slowly.

Guardian threads awakened.

Silver-blue light reflected across his eyes.

And he said quietly:

"…Then I'll decide what stability is."
