Chapter 151 - Deal

The Mindscape

Ernst snapped back to absolute, calculating awareness.

This was a psychic construct. A battlefield of pure consciousness.

It was not a nursery. He could not afford to be sentimental with a planetary intelligence.

"I'll raise the child, Gaia," Ernst said coldly.

"But the mechanics are flawed."

He pointed at the sleeping baby girl in his arms.

"How exactly does she coexist within the physical vessel? If a conflict of dominance arises in the future, will the girl's body undergo cellular collapse as you two vie for control?"

Ernst scowled.

"Furthermore, the hierarchy is deeply uncomfortable. You are an ancient, primordial entity. Having you sleep inside a vessel that calls me 'Dad' is highly irregular."

Gaia offered a serene, entirely unbothered smile.

"You wield the Reality Gem, Ernst Shaw. You have refined its matrix into your own soul. And yet, you still harbor fear?"

"There is no need for discomfort," Gaia assured him.

"Elizabeth will possess absolute, conscious control over the physical vessel. Alaya and I will enter a hibernation. We will only intervene under extreme, apocalyptic circumstances."

Gaia sighed. "Despite the thousands of mutant genes you spliced together to build her, the physical body still falls drastically short of handling our combined, active strength."

Ernst's eyes narrowed to dangerous slits.

"You knew about the Reality Gem," Ernst stated. It wasn't a question.

"The Reality Gem is a fundamental pillar of the universe," Gaia replied smoothly.

"Its resonance threatens the absolute safety of the cosmos. Naturally, I monitor it."

"I knew the exact microsecond you bound it to your soul. I have been watching you ever since."

Ernst felt a flash of genuine irritation.

He had layered his laboratory with impenetrable magical wards.

He thought his secrets were well hidden.

He had failed to factor in the very ground he walked on.

Considering her identity as the Earth itself, it was logically sound.

Nothing on the planet could be hidden from the planet.

"If you were watching," Ernst asked shamelessly, "why didn't you stop me from taking it?"

"Did you calculate that I have a 'good heart' and won't use it for evil? Or is the Earth facing a crisis, and you need a champion to save the world?"

Gaia shot him a look of profound, ancient contempt.

"Do not flatter your ego, mortal," Gaia rebuked.

"I did not stop you because I physically could not."

"I lack a physical avatar. To stop you, I would have been forced to trigger a magnitude-ten earthquake directly beneath London."

"The resulting tectonic shift would have caused millions of innocent human casualties. Alaya would have opposed the action, triggering a psychic civil war."

Gaia paused, her expression darkening.

"And there are other... highly classified reasons I could not expend the energy."

Ernst cleared his throat, sensing a tactical opening.

"I don't suppose you are willing to elaborate on those 'other reasons'?" Ernst prodded.

"Most are classified on a cosmic scale," Gaia replied vaguely.

"They are incredibly inconvenient to share with a mortal."

"Then tell me what is convenient," Ernst countered immediately.

"What a resilient, annoying little parasite," Gaia muttered, clearly irritated by his persistence.

She relented with a heavy sigh.

"For instance," Gaia explained, "a massive percentage of my energy output is currently dedicated to suppressing a specific, highly volatile entity."

"An entity whose raw power profile mirrors a sealed Infinity Stone."

"Hela. The Goddess of Death. She is currently sealed deep within the Earth's mantle by Odin."

Ernst's expression shifted violently. He was genuinely shocked.

"Hela?" Ernst exclaimed.

"Odin sealed her? Why are you expending energy to suppress her? Is Odin's magic failing?"

Gaia looked at Ernst with a strange, calculating gaze.

"You are surprisingly well-informed on Asgardian matters," Gaia noted.

"But your data is incomplete."

"Odin's raw power alone cannot permanently seal Hela. Why do you think he chose Earth as her prison, rather than a dungeon in Asgard?"

"Wait," Ernst calculated rapidly.

"Does this imply Hela's power exceeds Odin's? And what makes Earth specifically capable of holding her?"

"Let me clarify," Gaia said strictly.

"At his absolute zenith, the Allfather is stronger than Hela."

"Odin mastered the cosmic rules through thousands of years of brutal effort. Hela, however, parasitizes external forces. Specifically, the necrotic energy of death."

Gaia's projection flickered, demonstrating the ancient history.

"Hela is the planetary consciousness of Asgard. She is to Asgard what I am to Earth."

"She gained a physical avatar when Odin and Frigga conceived her. Asgard is the literal battery of her power. As long as she remains in that realm, her strength is infinite, and she is immortal."

"However, her ambition became a cosmic cancer. To expand her power, she devised a viral mechanism to infect other planets with the rules of death."

"She assimilates planets, turning them into necrotic extensions of her own body, and resurrecting their inhabitants as an endless, undead army."

Gaia's voice turned deadly serious.

"If she continued her crusade, she would have eventually refined the entire universe into a massive, dead extension of herself."

"Odin recognized the threat and chose to seal her. But finding a prison was nearly impossible."

"He chose Earth," Gaia concluded, "because only Earth possesses a consciousness dense enough to actively resist the infection of her necrotic power."

"What makes Earth so special?" Ernst demanded, desperate for the data.

"Why..."

Gaia cut him off with a sharp, dismissive wave of her hand.

"Enough. Do not probe further."

"Knowing the deeper secrets of this planet is highly detrimental to your current survival. Even I dare not speak them aloud."

"When your power scales appropriately, you will naturally understand. It is time for you to leave."

The pristine meadow began to blur and dissolve into static.

Ernst felt his consciousness violently snap back into his physical body.

The Magma Cave - The Ancient Castle

Ernst opened his eyes. He was standing on the scorching iron catwalk.

Inside the reinforced cultivation tank, the young girl was slowly opening her eyes. Her nightmare had ended.

Ernst rapidly keyed a sequence into the control panel.

The heavy, oxygenated fluid drained away instantly.

The heavy glass seals hissed, unlatching with a loud clank. The door swung open.

Ernst stepped forward, offering a rare, genuinely warm smile.

"Elizabeth," Ernst said softly.

"Welcome to the world."

The girl looked at him. Her eyes were impossibly pure, lacking the ancient, heavy weight of Gaia or Alaya.

"Dad!" Elizabeth cried out.

She leaped forward, throwing her small arms around Ernst's neck.

Ernst caught her, holding her tightly against his coat.

He had a daughter. He possessed the combined might of a god, yet the profound weight of this single moment left him entirely speechless.

Cairo - Egypt

While Ernst spoke with the Earth, Cairo was burning.

Apocalypse had successfully hijacked Professor Charles Xavier's telepathic body.

The ancient mutant was completely bald, hovering above the ruined city, his eyes glowing white with absolute power.

The young, inexperienced X-Men were waging a desperate, losing war against Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen.

Initially, raw talent and blind luck had given the young mutants a tactical edge.

But that completely evaporated the moment Apocalypse fully awakened to his new telepathic powers.

With a single, devastating psychic pulse, Apocalypse incapacitated the entire X-Men squad.

Quicksilver blurred into motion, attempting to use his hypersonic speed to land a decisive blow.

Apocalypse simply predicted his trajectory and shattered his leg with a gravity crush.

Mystique, heavily disguised as Psylocke, materialized behind Apocalypse.

She drove a lethal, Vibranium-laced combat knife directly toward his exposed neck.

The blade struck true, burying itself to the hilt.

It didn't matter.

Apocalypse's cellular regeneration was instantaneous. The wound sealed around the blade before a drop of blood could fall.

With terrifying speed, Apocalypse spun and seized Mystique by the throat, lifting her effortlessly off the ground.

"Let go of my mother!"

A cloud of brimstone exploded in the air.

The Blue Devil materialized directly above Apocalypse, slashing desperately with his spiked tail.

It was entirely ineffective.

Apocalypse didn't even look up. He extended his free hand.

Invisible telekinetic force clamped around Nightcrawler's throat, freezing the boy in mid-air.

Apocalypse held both mother and son suspended, slowly crushing their windpipes.

Behind a massive dune on the outskirts of the ruined city, three boys watched the execution in horror.

"It's Nathan," Chris whispered, his fists clenching.

"He's Uncle Azazel's kid. We used to play together on the island."

"If he dies," Kyle muttered, his eyes narrowing, "how the hell do we explain it?"

Chris wasn't just worried about his friend.

The boys prepared to break cover and engage the god.

They never got the chance.

A massive, tearing sound ripped through the air directly inside the ruins.

A blue spatial wormhole tore open behind Apocalypse.

BAMF.

Azazel, the Red Devil, stepped out of the void.

His human disguise had fallen away in his fury. He was crimson red, his demonic tail thrashing wildly.

He saw his family dying.

Azazel drew a sleek, jagged black knife from his belt. It hummed with dark, spatial magic.

He didn't aim for Apocalypse's body.

He aimed for the space around it.

Azazel slashed the blade downward with blinding, surgical precision.

The knife didn't just cut flesh; it severed the spatial coordinates themselves.

The blade sheared cleanly through Apocalypse's forearm.

Azazel didn't stop. He plunged his empty hand directly into a micro-wormhole, his arm disappearing into the void.

His hand materialized from a second wormhole directly above the falling mutants.

Apocalypse roared in sudden, shocking pain.

Despite his god-like cellular regeneration, the ancient mutant felt a deep, instinctive terror toward the reality-warping edge of the black knife.

He refused to risk another strike.

He released his telekinetic grip, stumbling backward and clutching his severed, rapidly regrowing stump.

Mystique and the Blue Devil plummeted toward the rubble.

They never hit the ground.

Azazel snapped his fingers. A wide, horizontal space wormhole opened instantly beneath them, swallowing them whole.

Azazel sheathed the black knife. He held out his arms.

Mystique and Nightcrawler fell out of a secondary portal directly into Azazel's embrace.

He held them tightly, his face pale with stress.

Azazel knew he was outmatched in a sustained fight. He prioritized extraction.

He locked onto the biological signature of Beast, who was lying unconscious nearby.

BAMF.

Azazel teleported himself and his family directly to Hank's side, securing a defensive perimeter.

Then, Azazel turned back to face the ancient god.

Apocalypse stared at the Red Devil. His eyes burned with murderous, cold fury.

He was enraged that a lesser mutant had stolen his prizes so effortlessly.

Azazel glared back, his demonic tail lashing. He recognized the terrifying power of his opponent.

He approached with extreme tactical caution.

Azazel raised his hands.

A cloud of blue, crackling spatial energy descended upon Apocalypse.

Hidden within the light were microscopic, lethal dark-space fissures designed to shred matter at the atomic level.

Apocalypse sensed the spatial anomaly.

He raised a hand, conjuring a massive, hemispherical shield of hard-light energy.

The dark-space fissures slammed into the shield, sparking violently, but failing to penetrate the barrier.

Undeterred, Apocalypse countered instantly.

He manipulated the molecular density of the desert. Several massive, razor-sharp spears of hardened yellow sand shot toward Azazel like ballistic missiles.

Azazel threw up a defensive spatial warp, catching the spears and redirecting them into the void.

Apocalypse analyzed the Red Devil's defense.

He deduced that subtle, ranged energy attacks were useless against a teleporter utilizing spatial folding.

Apocalypse decided to abandon subtlety.

He bent his knees and launched himself into the air, crossing the distance with explosive, terrifying speed.

He intended to crush Azazel with sheer, unstoppable force.
