Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Seed of Resentment

Chapter 1: The Seed of Resentment

Eight years had passed since the night the Nine-Tails demon fox raged against the world. The mighty village of Konohagakure had been shaken to its core that night, a maelstrom of fire, chaos, and despair.

In that moment of ultimate crisis, a Hokage and his wife made the final sacrifice. With their lives, they sealed the monstrous beast within their newborn son, quelling the catastrophe and saving what remained of the village.

Yet, eight years later…

The boy who had lost his parents and borne the seal did not become a hero celebrated by all. Instead, he was known only as the "Demon Fox."

High above the village, atop the stone faces of the Hokage carved into the mountainside, two figures stood—one old, one young—gazing out over the expanse of their home.

From this great height, the sprawling shinobi village of Konoha seemed small and orderly. The distant sounds of a bustling, peaceful community drifted up on the wind: the shouts of vendors from the market stalls, the general hum of daily life.

The Third Hokage, dressed in his white robes and red haori, observed the scene with deep contentment. He turned a kind eye to the blond boy beside him.

"Naruto," he asked, his voice gentle. "Do you love Konoha?"

The old man's words reached Naruto's ears, but they sparked no warmth within him. On the surface, he maintained a lively, excited smile, the picture of childish enthusiasm. Inside, however, his heart was a still pool, cold and undisturbed.

Konoha. The place of his birth and upbringing. Logically, anyone should feel a fondness for their hometown. But Naruto's feelings for Konoha ran far deeper and darker.

Even now, he could never forget the endless abuse, the scorn, and the hatred of the past eight years. Those voices, like a cursed chant, echoed perpetually in his mind.

"Demon! Get out of this village!"

"Stay away from me, you monster!"

"Why is he still alive? I don't understand why Lord Third lets a creature like that stay here. Just looking at him makes me sick!"

"Plague!"

"…"

Naruto could never forget those voices, nor the eyes that watched him like he was a freak, the hands that threw stones. Yet, in this moment, he simply nodded, his smile unwavering.

"Of course I do, Grandpa Third! Konoha is huge!"

Seeing the glimmer of childlike innocence in Naruto's bright blue eyes, the Third Hokage nodded, satisfied. He began to explain the principles of the Will of Fire, the philosophy that bound the village together.

But no matter how the Hokage spoke, Naruto's inner detachment remained. A seed had already taken root in his heart. Eight years of Konoha's prejudice had stripped away any illusions, forcing him to see the true nature of the world.

One day, he would find justice for the treatment he had endured.

The boy who slays the dragon must first understand the dragon's nature.

After the Third Hokage finally took his leave, the false cheer faded from Naruto's eyes, replaced by a flat, distant calm. He looked down indifferently at the village sprawled beneath his feet and spoke silently in his mind.

——————————

The system's voice faded, leaving Naruto's mind clear.

That was right. He was a traveler from another world. It had been eight years since he arrived here, and three years since he awakened the God-Level Sign-in System.

The God-Level Sign-in System granted rewards for signing in at specific locations. Technically, Naruto could sign in anywhere in Konoha indefinitely. However, repeated sign-ins at the same place yielded diminishing returns, eventually becoming pointless. The true value came from signing in at the new, system-refreshed locations.

His last sign-in at a refreshed location—right here on the Hokage monument—had granted him the template of the Shinigami Captain, Byakuya Kuchiki!

Due to his young body, Naruto couldn't grasp the template's full power instantly and had to integrate it slowly. So far, he had achieved 40% fusion.

Don't underestimate that 40%. That power had already transformed and sublimated Naruto's physique, granting him strength on par with a Jōnin! And once he unlocked another ten percent, he would gain access to the Shikai release of Byakuya Kuchiki's Zanpakutō!

Senbonzakura.

At that point, Naruto's power would advance by leaps and bounds.

This was his hidden trump card, not to be revealed until a critical moment.

An eight-year-old with Jōnin-level strength—talent no less formidable than Uchiha Itachi's. Yet, Naruto was not satisfied. He knew Konoha housed many powerful masters. A single Jōnin could not make waves here. Therefore, he anticipated his next sign-in reward all the more keenly.

"Hmph. One more hour, then. Might as well get some ramen first."

With that thought, Naruto began a leisurely walk down from the Hokage monument. Though his current abilities could get him from the rocks to the ramen stand in minutes, he preferred this measured pace.

He was acutely aware that even though the Third Hokage seemed to have left, watchful eyes were still upon him.

This was Konoha. His cage. His personal hell.
