Chapter 339: Saving Harry!

"Spider-Man? He's a great superhero, I like him a lot." Gwen answered Peter's question without hesitation.

"Why are you suddenly asking about this?" Gwen asked with a hint of confusion. Had something happened?

Hearing Gwen's answer, the heavy weight on Peter's heart finally lightened a bit.

After a moment of silence, Peter said, "Don't you think Spider-Man is useless? He couldn't even catch the Green Goblin, causing massive casualties among the public, and he..."

"Enough, Peter!" Gwen interrupted him. "If you're just here to belittle Spider-Man, then we have nothing to talk about."

"I... I'm not belittling him, I just feel..." Peter paused, not knowing what to say.

Gwen said nothing more. She felt a surge of anger; Spider-Man had saved her life, and she wouldn't allow anyone to slander him.

"I don't know what you're thinking, but Spider-Man saved me." Gwen placed a hand over her heart, then turned and walked away.

Peter reached out, watching Gwen's retreating back, but slowly lowered his hand. He didn't know what to say to make her stay.

"Don't worry, Gwen is just like that. Next time, just be careful not to badmouth Spider-Man," Felicia comforted Peter.

Peter looked up at Felicia, nodded, and chased after Gwen.

"What's wrong with him? Ever since he came back, his mood seems so gloomy," Felicia blinked, turning to ask in confusion.

"Don't ask me, I don't know." Silas Parker shrugged. Peter still wasn't very good at managing his emotions.

On the Other Side

Still feeling a spark of anger, Gwen left the playground and decided to head to the rooftop to clear her head.

The Rooftop

"Harry?" As soon as Gwen opened the rooftop door, she saw Harry leaning against the railing, feeling the breeze from the high altitude.

"Hmm?" Lost in thought, Harry heard the noise behind him and turned back in confusion. "Gwen? Why are you here?"

"How are you?" Gwen took the initiative to greet him and walked over to stand beside him.

Harry was currently feeling very irritable. He didn't feel like talking to Gwen, so he turned his head away and ignored her completely.

"Ahem..." Gwen gave a faint, awkward smile. After her smile faded, she leaned out to look down at the once-beautiful campus.

Unfortunately, it was now left in ruins by the Green Goblin, and the screams of many students could still be heard from below.

The two classmates stood on the rooftop in silence, which made Harry feel slightly awkward.

"Why did you come up here?" Harry exhaled.

"To get some air. But Harry, why are you on the rooftop?" Gwen said with a smile, glad that Harry was finally willing to speak.

"Nothing, I just find the people down there too annoying," Harry said, a look of disgust in his eyes.

"Annoying?" Gwen was somewhat surprised. She hadn't realized Harry had such a poor opinion of the other students.

Usually, she saw those classmates constantly swarming around Harry; she thought his social relationships were quite good, but now it seemed otherwise.

"Yeah," Harry nodded. "Don't you think those people are very noisy?"

"I don't really feel that way." Gwen didn't quite like Harry's high-and-mighty attitude.

"Tch~" Harry chuckled disdainfully. He stopped talking. He had thought Gwen might be a bit different, but it turned out she was just like the rest.

Gwen didn't pay much attention to Harry's expression. Resting her head on her hands, she said, "I really hope Spider-Man catches the Green Goblin and puts him in prison soon. Then society can be a bit more stable."

Bang!

The sudden noise startled Gwen. She quickly turned around and saw that Harry had punched the railing.

"What... what are you doing?" Gwen breathed a sigh of relief and patted her chest, thinking something had happened.

Harry had wanted to show his claws to let Gwen know that some people should keep their mouths shut, but he remembered that he wasn't currently in his Green Goblin identity.

"Do you really want Spider-Man to catch the Green Goblin that badly?" Harry asked Gwen, trying his best to calm his racing heart.

"Of course. The Green Goblin is a supervillain who retaliates against society at the drop of a hat. Unstable people like that must be caught as soon as possible," Gwen said without thinking.

Harry gritted his teeth, his tone becoming heavy. "Do you really think so? Don't you think Spider-Man is the real devil!"

"Enough, Harry!" Seeing the predatory look in Harry's eyes, Gwen had felt very afraid.

But hearing Harry insult Spider-Man, Gwen's fear instantly vanished. " I won't allow you to say that about Spider-Man! What right do you have to call him a devil!"

"He's a murderer! He killed the Green Goblin's father. Don't you think that's also breaking the law?!" Harry's temper began to climb again.

The manic consciousness hidden in his mind began to resurface, attempting to reclaim control over Harry's brain.

"Do you have evidence?" Gwen was momentarily stunned to hear Harry say Spider-Man killed the Green Goblin's father, but her face quickly calmed.

Harry's words had no proof. He claimed Spider-Man killed the Green Goblin's father, but was there evidence? Besides, how would he even know that?

"Evidence..." Harry was left speechless by Gwen's rebuttal. Indeed, he had no evidence.

The idea of Spider-Man killing Norman was something he had pieced together from fragments of information and his own imagination.

"If you don't have any evidence, then please don't slander a superhero who is willing to sacrifice himself for others." Gwen's aura momentarily overshadowed Harry's.

After being saved by Spider-Man, she had come to idolize the hero. Later, while searching for major news about Spider-Man online, she discovered something.

One day, there was an accident in the subway; a train couldn't stop on the tracks, and there was a thick wall of rubble ahead. If the train wasn't stopped, everyone in that carriage would have died.

At that moment, Spider-Man stepped forward! He stopped the entire train with his own strength, saving everyone on board.

But Spider-Man had also collapsed from exhaustion. If Silas Parker hadn't arrived at the critical moment, Spider-Man might have been killed by criminals.

For a superhero so selfless, Gwen naturally felt even more admiration.

"Superhero... Spider-Man... Heh... Hahaha~" Harry could no longer endure it. The corners of his mouth curled up into a chilling, eerie laugh.

"What's wrong with you, Harry?" Facing a Harry who seemed to be going mad, Gwen instinctively took a few steps back in fear.

Harry looked up at Gwen again and said, "Maybe you're right."

With that, Harry grabbed the railing and jumped off the rooftop with all his might.

"Ah!" Gwen couldn't react in time and screamed, covering her mouth.

She never expected that Harry would actually choose to jump. It was absolutely insane.

Just then, a figure flashed past Gwen and reached the edge of the railing.

"Harry!" This figure was Peter!

He had followed Gwen to the rooftop, intending to apologize to her. However, he hadn't expected Harry to be here too, and it seemed they were talking. He had stayed back, leaning against the door hesitantly.

Just as he was deciding whether to reveal himself, Gwen and Harry actually started talking about Spider-Man and the Green Goblin!

As they talked, they got into a huge argument, and during the fight, Peter heard something shocking. Harry actually knew about Spider-Man killing the Green Goblin's father! Although it was false, how did Harry know? That matter had never been made public.

While Peter was confused, he didn't expect the seemingly fine Harry to suddenly leap from the high-rise rooftop.

Fortunately, Peter reacted quickly. Combined with his natural agility, he managed to grab Harry's right leg before he fell.

"Peter?!" Gwen recovered from her shock and gasped. When did Peter get here?

"Peter?!" Hanging high in the air, Harry looked down at his feet. It really was Peter, and Peter was currently holding his right leg.

Peter had no time to worry about Gwen right now. He used his Spider-Man strength to easily pull Harry back up.

"What are you doing, Harry?" Peter finally breathed a sigh of relief after pulling Harry up.

"Why did you save me?" Harry's first words weren't of thanks, but rather a reproach for why Peter had saved him.

"Then why are you giving up on your life?" Peter asked in return. Weren't these two just talking about him and the Green Goblin?

"My life is mine to decide. Is that wrong?" Harry left the rooftop without looking back.

"Ha..." Peter originally wanted to stop Harry to ask how he knew about the death of the Green Goblin's father.

But Gwen had already come up to him. "Don't bother with someone like that. He's a lunatic, a total lunatic."

Clearly, Gwen was badly shaken by Harry's actions. Who jumps off a building in the middle of an argument? If Peter hadn't arrived in time, she might have even been suspected of murdering Harry.

"Lunatic..." Peter watched Harry's back. When Gwen mentioned the word lunatic, for some reason, he inexplicably merged the Green Goblin's silhouette with Harry's back. They looked so similar...

"Why are you here?" Gwen changed the subject. She decided she would never talk to Harry again; people like that were too terrifying.

"Oh... I," Peter scratched his head awkwardly. "I came up to say I'm sorry. I shouldn't have belittled your idol, Spider-Man."

Gwen smiled and said, "It's okay. I didn't take it to heart. I know you didn't mean it."

"Thank you." Hearing that Gwen wasn't angry, Peter's nerves finally relaxed.

But what a weird situation—having to apologize to himself.
