Chapter 328: Pink Lion Finale
Deadpool had no choice but to raise his twin blades horizontally in a defensive stance.
Clang!
Rei's Muramasa Demon Blade collided with Deadpool's Carbonadium katanas, unleashing a violent shower of sparks. Deadpool rarely drew these Carbonadium blades unless he was dealing with the specific power levels of Super Heroes. Usually, he just used them to strike a pose or look cool while deflecting bullets; he rarely used them in a serious duel against anyone else.
Besides inhibiting self-healing factors, these blades were toxic. Any hero wounded by them would not only find their regeneration suppressed but would also suffer from the corrosive effects of the toxin. Deadpool only used them when he felt his opponent was truly formidable.
"Hey! That little girl is getting away!" Deadpool shouted, glancing at Jenny as she prepared to slip off.
"Our battle has only just begun!" Rei didn't care about Jenny anymore; she wanted to see the full extent of Deadpool's true skill.
Deadpool was forced into a tedious entanglement with Rei, but his mind was already on Jenny. He fought with a complete lack of focus.
"Isn't that giant sword heavy to carry? Are your masks breathable? They look great—can you get me a custom one?" Deadpool never stopped talking during the fight, his chatter giving Rei a massive headache.
This was nothing like the silent, focused duel between master swordsmen she had envisioned. Instead of a wordless dance of blades, her opponent wasn't even trying and wouldn't shut up.
"Oh! Hey! She's really leaving!" Deadpool couldn't wait any longer. He turned his back, intentionally taking a direct hit from Rei's blade to end the exchange.
Puchi!
The blade sliced down from his neck to his tailbone.
"You owe me a new suit!" Deadpool shouted as he sheathed his blades and threw himself out of the window, crashing through the glass to the ground below.
Ding!
Jenny reached the first floor via the elevator.
Thud!
Deadpool slammed into the pavement face-first, blood seeping from his forehead. Jenny looked on, amazed by his persistence. Deadpool slowly picked himself up and wiped the blood away. "Sorry, I haven't quite mastered the 'superhero landing' yet."
"Is it really worth all this?" Jenny sighed, tossing the wooden box to him before turning and vanishing into the Shadow Kingdom.
"Thanks, Shadow Girl!" Deadpool caught the box. He opened it, and his joyful expression immediately darkened. "I hate kids."
At Matthew's House
"You're back, Jenny? Want some late-night snacks? I just grilled some chicken chunks," Matthew said, placing a plate on the table.
Jenny sat on the sofa, playing with the Pink Lion diamond in her hand. Such a sparkly gem would make a perfect decoration for her room. If Deadpool knew her thoughts, he would have vomited.
"Coming, Uncle Matthew!" Jenny tossed the Pink Lion into the stomach of a Shadow Eater—the safest place for it.
The Aftermath
"Where's the girl?" John finally shook off the giant Shadow Eater and reached the ground floor, only to find Deadpool crying.
Deadpool melodramatically wiped away fake tears, leaning on John's shoulder. "I was tricked by a little girl..."
John instinctively dodged away from him. "So, she's gone?"
"Yes... Captain John, that diamond is extremely important to me. Can you help me get it back?" Deadpool said in a mockingly high-pitched voice.
John shook his head in annoyance. "Sigh~ I guess she made it out. I just hope she keeps her word."
"What word?" Deadpool asked, confused.
"Nothing." John ignored him and left the scene.
Seeing John leave, Deadpool realized he had been played. He fell to his knees. "The world is so unfair! The police and a little girl teamed up to cheat a poor mercenary!"
"What's wrong with him?" Mindy suddenly appeared at the entrance.
"No idea," Rei added, arriving just in time to see the scene.
Bang!
A sniper bullet tore through the crying Deadpool's head, leaving him in a pool of blood.
"Sorry, I just thought he was too loud," Damon said from his sniper perch in the distance. Since Deadpool couldn't die, they felt no psychological pressure about shooting him.
The three of them left the scene one by one. Only Deadpool remained on the ground. Eighty million dollars gone in an instant—anyone would be heartbroken. Deadpool claimed to be a mercenary, but the truth was he'd take any job for money. Lately, he'd been buying groceries for the elderly, babysitting for stay-at-home moms, and even taking dog-walking gigs in the park.
"He is definitely not Batman," Deadpool muttered, watching Damon's silhouette in the distance.
Peter's Trouble
Meanwhile, Peter's situation was looking grim.
"Hey! We're definitely over the speed limit!" Peter was once again clinging to the Vulture's back, having thwarted another of his plans.
The Vulture had a love-hate relationship with the Spider-Man behind him. Ever since Peter saved his life, he had developed a certain respect for the wall-crawler, but today, Spider-Man had ruined everything again.
"Get off me, you damn bug!" The Vulture soared between the skyscrapers, unable to shake him.
"Sorry! It's my job!" Peter shouted, his feet skidding against a wall to dodge an obstacle.
The Vulture looked down at the hitchhiker. A blade snapped out from his arm and, with a flash of cold light, severed the web line.
Peter was ready. "Gaia!"
"I understand, Peter." The spider-drone on his chest chirped, detaching and attaching itself to the Vulture's flight pack.
Peter didn't pursue further. He swung away and landed steadily on a streetlamp. Watching the Vulture fly off, he whispered, "I hope this works."
This time, Peter chose not to engage in a long fight. Instead, he planned to use the drone to track the Vulture back to his hideout so he could confront him on his own terms.
"Mission accomplished." Peter was now waiting for the drone's feedback.
African Secret Base
"Looks like we're about to succeed." Silas Parker couldn't suppress a smile.
"Yes, we just need one last round of testing," Little Black nodded.
Before them was a giant experimental table, and on it lay a silver-and-white robot. Alpha's consciousness had been fully uploaded, but it hadn't been powered on yet, as the power of the Mind Stone was incredibly difficult to implant.
If it were even slightly unstable, Silas might accidentally create an extremist like Vision or Ultron.
However, the reason Silas created this artificial intelligence was because he had absolute certainty. If the result was something like Ultron, Silas could destroy it instantly!
