Chapter 325: Envying Immortality
"Yeah." John nodded. He had already guessed that Jenny was interested in the Pink Lion. Unlike an adult's greed, however, she simply wanted the shiny little gem.
John checked his watch; it was time to start. "I'm moving out. May the best man win." John stepped into the Shadow Kingdom and vanished.
Jenny's eyes darted around playfully before she followed suit, skipping into the shadows. Since Matthew (Daredevil) had been lured away by other matters earlier, Jenny was currently on her own.
A moment later, Deadpool arrived at the scene and retrieved his katana. "Phew~ thank goodness it's not lost." If he had lost this blade, he would have been heartbroken; it was an old partner he couldn't afford to lose. Resheathing the sword, Deadpool marched toward the gang's hideout.
Multi-Sided Siege
Damon and Mindy were also ready. Damon scaled a nearby building to set up his sniper rifle, while Mindy checked her close-quarters gear. Unlike the others, their goal wasn't the Pink Lion—it was purely to dismantle the gang.
Meanwhile, Selt and his crew brought out their heavy weaponry. They were determined to seize the Pink Lion for themselves. The area appeared calm on the surface, but danger lurked in every shadow.
Inside the hideout, Faun lay face-down on a sofa after having the katana pulled from his backside. The bleeding had mostly stopped, but the seal was fragile. Any slight movement caused a surge of pain that made him bleed out like a heavy menstrual cycle. Faun stayed perfectly still, puffing on a cigarette. "Curse them... I better never see them again. Have you hidden the Pink Lion?"
"It's safe, Boss," a subordinate replied.
Faun had never intended to trade the diamond to Selt; he had planned a double-cross from the start, but Deadpool's arrival had ruined everything. "Those freaks will definitely come back, and Selt won't let this go either."
Faun was uneasy. Despite the numerous guards and a heavy machine gun stationed outside, he couldn't shake the image of Deadpool—the freak who took a blade through the groin and a bullet to the chest and acted as if nothing had happened. "If anyone breaks in, take me through the back exit immediately. My life is more important than the diamond."
The Assault
Bang!
Rei swung her katana, cleaving through the front door. "Be smart. Hand over the Pink Lion!"
"Fire!" Faun's men didn't hesitate.
In an instant, five Samurai Ninjas emerged in front of Rei, their blades a blur as they deflected the oncoming bullets. Rei's current limit was five; while their armor was thick, the Samurai Ninjas were surprisingly fragile against concentrated fire. If they failed to parry, they would be dispelled back into black mist.
Faun was prepared. A heavy machine gun opened up, its relentless fire instantly shredding the Samurai Ninjas.
"What the...?" The gunner blinked. Why did they turn into mist instead of falling over?
Rei leaped into the air, her silhouette dancing through the hail of lead. With her enhanced physical stats, she was incredibly agile, predicting the bullet trajectories just before they reached her. No, their firepower is too heavy, she thought. The machine gun's rate of fire required her absolute concentration just to survive. To play it safe, Rei slipped into the Shadow Kingdom. She was still a novice General and couldn't yet face such heavy weaponry head-on.
Click!
The moment Rei vanished, Deadpool appeared at the door. The gunner pivoted, spraying lead at the red suit. "Sh*t!" Deadpool rolled to avoid the initial burst, then drew his pistols. He used his body to tank the first few rounds of the next volley to steady his aim.
Bang!
A single shot from Deadpool took the gunner's head off, silencing the machine gun.
"Sh*t~" Deadpool looked down at his blood-soaked, tattered suit, a thousand curses running through his mind. He shook his body, and the bullets embedded in his flesh fell out, clattering onto the floor like spent brass. "Much better."
"Thanks," Rei said, re-emerging from the shadows. She had been planning to assassinate the gunner from the dark, but Deadpool had beaten her to it. His "tanking" method left her a bit speechless.
"Wait, where did you come from?" Deadpool stomped his foot on the floor.
"Just an ability. You're no different—a freak who isn't even afraid of bullets." Rei felt a twinge of envy toward Deadpool's immortality. Of course, if she ever saw his true face under the mask, she'd likely change her mind.
"Don't be jealous. It's just my 'gimmick.' I've actually killed an Avengers before, I just don't brag about it," Deadpool said with a casual shrug.
Rei snorted. Who would believe that? If he had killed an Avengers, how were they still alive and well?
"Director, please write this actor out. She's doubting me," Deadpool whispered to the camera.
Rei rolled her eyes, knowing he was talking nonsense again. "You're here for the Pink Lion too, right?"
"I wasn't originally, but I'm interested now," Rei admitted. Even if Deadpool was a formidable rival, she wasn't backing down.
"OK. May the best freak win. Hope you don't cry, kid; I've never failed a mission," Deadpool said, leaning against the wall with a self-indulgent air.
Rei didn't bother responding. She hoisted her katana and headed deeper into the building, with Deadpool close behind. Little did they know that the experienced John and Jenny had already bypassed the ground floor and were currently inside Faun's upstairs room.
