"Then put the spear away."
"I didn't come here to die either." Hudson said, and he didn't put the spear away. "I only have one question. Once you answer, I'll leave."
Rover said nothing.
Hudson stepped forward one pace.
"What is Mirror?"
The entire corridor went completely silent.
Thirty pairs of eyes all looked toward Rover. On the walls, the System's cameras quietly rotated. Rover knew very clearly that right now, at least two hundred people were sitting in their private rooms with their eyes glued to surveillance screens.
And he also knew, further out, in the fog, there were other things watching too.
Rover stood still for two seconds.
Then he breathed out a sigh, raised a hand, and rubbed the back of his neck, looking exactly like someone annoyed at being disturbed in the morning.
"That thing?" He said. "It's my starting skill. Rank D."
Hudson narrowed his eyes.
"You're lying."
"Then don't ask."
