It halted at the treeline's edge, hovering just beyond the canopy's reach, and Lin Tian felt the twins gathering energy like storm clouds stacking before a collapse. The air grew thick with it, pressing against his skin, tasting of ash and old rot.
"They're not done," Xueya said. Her voice was quiet, but the ice in it had hardened into something sharp enough to cut.
"No," Lin Tian agreed. "They're just reloading."
He could feel it through the Link Square — the twins were drawing on something deeper now, something that scraped against the edges of his awareness like stone grinding on stone. The Void Anchors beneath the forest were pulsing in response, sending tremors up through the Heart-Tree's roots.
