Rain's POV:
"Commander, I have heard so much about you," Nico gushes.
The words are polished, dripping with a theatrical sense of pride and duty, as if he's been waiting his whole life to stand in Danny's shadow. I stare at him, stunned. Both of them are equally impossible.
"Likewise," Danny says. He wears a expression that someone else might mistake for a smile, but to me, it looks like a painful, violent stretch of facial muscle.
His fingers dig into my side, his grip tightening until it's branded there forever like a claim.
"Danny, we really need to rush to the trauma center. I'm already late. I'll see you soon?" I try to twist in his arms, desperate to loosen his hold, but Nico just stands there, staring at us both in absolute, unblinking fascination.
"Oh, but I'm just meeting your friend for the first time… are you in such a rush, Rain?" Danny asks. His voice is smooth, but I know him.
