Since a 7v7 online mode was being created, the original Holy Grail War template couldn't be used directly.
After all, by the end of the original Apocrypha story, it had devolved into a collective effort to defeat a final boss.
Not exactly balanced PvP material.
So for this Holy Grail War online mode, Max adopted a point-capture system to determine victory.
The game time was set for four hours. The side that occupied more points when time expired would achieve victory.
On the map of Romania, Max had set up a total of five capture points:
Yggdmillennia Castle — The Black faction's home base The Plains Bunker — Central fortification The Spiritual Vein Mine — Resource-rich location Trifas City — Urban warfare zone The Field Farmhouse — Rural outpost
Occupying a point was simple: as long as there were no enemy Servants or Masters within a 500-meter radius, the point was considered captured.
Otherwise, it remained contested.
Additionally, after capturing a point, someone had to remain there to guard it. Otherwise, the point would revert to unclaimed status.
So overall, although the rules were simple, the strategic depth was enormous.
As the defending side, the Black faction would have all seven members spawn simultaneously at Yggdmillennia Castle at the start.
As the attacking side, the Red faction would spawn randomly across the four points excluding the castle.
Correspondingly, each point had its own resources, as did the entire map.
In short, there was plenty of room for strategy.
When Max, with the aid of the whiteboard behind him, finished explaining the rules, the chat in both livestreams reached a fever pitch.
[Excited_Eddie]: Wow, this team battle sounds really interesting!
[Speedrun_Steve]: What Holy Grail War Speedrun mode when?
[Greedy_Gary]: I don't care about any of that, I just want to know if new costumes and new playable characters will be released!
[Sassy_Sally]: What's wrong, you little glutton? Aren't those 14 playable characters enough for you?
[Confused_Carl]: Where are there 14?
[Lore_Master_Larry]: Fun fact: when Waver switches to female attire, the skill set also changes
[Shocked_Shelly]: REALLY?!
[Simple_Simon]: I don't understand any of this, I just want to see blood flow like a river
[Mordred_Mike]: Max, doesn't your conscience hurt? You've cut off the wisdom of Arthur's entire family line!
[Cute_Cathy]: What's there to be dissatisfied about? I think this version of Mordred is just TOO CUTE!
[Inquisitor_Ian]: Open up! Heresy department!
[Artoria_Andy]: You heretic above! Mordred hurt our Artoria so badly, and you still like her? She should be condemned by everyone!
[Story_Mode_Stan]: Damn it, you're barking without even finishing the story!
[Critical_Chris]: I finished story mode, but how to put it? It felt like a meticulously calculating villain's century-old conspiracy was easily thwarted by a protagonist who just left the beginner's village. Hard to describe.
[Action_Amy]: Who cares, as long as the fighting is good! And Karna is really strong!
[Fangirl_Fiona]: Exactly! And he's so handsome! It's just that there's too little interaction with Achilles, otherwise I could ship them perfectly
[Shipper_Sharon]: That's because your imagination is too weak, sister. I've already imagined them intimately entangled~
[Cursed_Comment]: It's the legendary dynamic, right?
Mysterious writing choices from the original...
Forget it, no comments. Anyway, Max had made significant adaptations to the FA story mode.
At least certain... questionable romantic declarations couldn't appear.
After all, Jeanne d'Arc was a Saint, not a romance novel protagonist.
So Max had basically deleted all content related to the original male and female leads' forced romance.
And after deleting it, the entire story flowed much more smoothly.
Then he gave more screentime to the Mordred group.
Although the final antagonist's defeat was admittedly a plot convenience, there were no major issues overall.
At least the protagonist wouldn't be criticized as much anymore.
Now most people were just envious of him.
After all, being carried all the way to apotheosis was quite the achievement.
But no matter what, compared to the original version where certain fans had to constantly explain "that's not the REAL character," the current adaptation was much better.
The only drawback was that due to the lack of romantic scenes, certain... biological facts about Heroic Spirits wouldn't be revealed to the general public.
But on second thought, that was probably for the best.
After all, the degree of humanity's degeneracy in this world was no less than in any other. The incidents involving inappropriate relationships were truly increasing daily.
If these people really knew certain things were possible, that would truly be terrifying.
And back to the game itself.
Since it was changed to a 7v7 team battle, the Ruler class didn't need to appear.
At least not tonight. If Rulers were to appear later, something else would have to be added for balance.
The FA story was actually set in a parallel world.
In the original Third Holy Grail War, the Einzberns had illegally summoned the Avenger, Angra Mainyu.
But in the FA worldview, the Einzberns had illegally summoned a Ruler instead.
Therefore, the Holy Grail was never contaminated. And the entire Greater Grail had been seized during wartime and transported from Fuyuki City to Romania.
As for how it was transported...
An airship, probably. An airship...
German engineering is the finest in the world!!!
FA was a battle held under such a premise.
And the cause of the war was simple—summarized in one sentence: "I want to establish a new Mage's Association!"
Darnic, the head of the Yggdmillennia family, intended to use the stolen Holy Grail as leverage to gain independence from the Clock Tower and establish a rival organization.
Such an act was naturally unacceptable to the Mage's Association.
Thus, the Holy Grail War unfolded under this premise.
The Red faction represented the Mage's Association.
The Black faction represented the Yggdmillennia family rebels.
So Max would definitely release new playable characters later.
But they would be released one by one, slowly, to maintain sustained interest.
It would also provide continuous compensation to players.
Three holy grail drops here, three there—although small amounts, they could alleviate some of the players' spending pressure.
Thinking of this, Max couldn't help but be moved by his own generosity.
Truly, he was too kind.
Additionally, as a brand-new mode, the FA Chapter did not provide initial Holy Relics.
Otherwise, the Red faction's strength would be overwhelming.
After all, this didn't require much analysis.
Just one look at the Servant lineups of both sides revealed the disparity.
The Black faction had no way to fight the Red faction head-on. Just Karna alone could suppress everyone on the Black side.
Not to mention they also had Semiramis, Achilles, and Mordred.
That's right—although Mordred had always been acting independently alongside the Black faction in the story, she was technically from the Red side.
In short, without Holy Relics evening the field, raw Servant power would determine everything.
And on paper, Red should dominate.
Without further ado, as the 8:30 bell arrived, the streamers in all fourteen broadcasts simultaneously entered the game.
Max switched screens, focusing his attention on the Black faction.
Specifically, on Maverick.
[Anticipation_Andy]: Here we go!
[Nervous_Nancy]: Please let Maverick's curse be broken in team mode
[Betting_Bob]: I'm putting 100 on Maverick dying first
[Supportive_Sue]: Have some faith! He has teammates now!
[Realistic_Rita]: Teammates who have to carry him, you mean
The FA Chapter had officially begun.
Let the chaos commence.
