About Hleidisland:

Hleidisland was never an easy place to rule. For most of its early history it existed less as a nation and more as a restless patchwork of rival territories, each controlled by powerful regional lords known as Sandans. Though the Sandans shared common ancestry, language, and traditions, they shared very little patience for one another. Alliances formed and shattered with exhausting regularity, and internal conflict became such a constant feature of life that unity was more legend than reality.

From time to time, however, necessity forced their hands. Roughly four thousand years ago, the Sandans managed to bind themselves - reluctantly and temporarily - into a centralized authority remembered simply as the Empire. It was an impressive achievement on paper, but far less stable in practice. The Empire endured for about a century, held together by fragile agreements and mutual suspicion. Even at its strongest, it was less a unified state than a collection of rivals agreeing not to kill each other quite so often.

What finally pushed Hleidisland toward genuine unification was not internal harmony, but external terror. To the west loomed Ornazia, an expansionist power whose appetite for conquest seemed limitless. Facing the very real possibility of being wiped from the map altogether, the Sandans were compelled to unite through whatever means worked - diplomacy, bribery, and, when those failed, outright force. Yet even as a single state, Hleidisland remained weaker than its neighbors. Over the centuries it was invaded, occupied, and annexed again and again, sometimes for generations at a time. Foreign rulers tried relentlessly to erase its identity and break its spirit. They never succeeded. Each occupation was met with rebellion, resistance, and an almost stubborn refusal to disappear.

Hleidisland's fortunes changed dramatically during the chaotic period known as the People's Surge Era. After the collapse of the Supreme Covenant of Unified States in 701, much of Eldervale descended into turmoil. Regimes fell, borders dissolved, and long-standing powers crumbled - nearly all of them, in fact, except for a badly weakened Ornazia. Hleidisland, by a rare stroke of historical luck, was spared the worst of the chaos. Free from major disruption, it quietly strengthened itself while its neighbors tore each other apart.

The transformation was remarkable. Over the next decades, Hleidisland refined its military doctrines, expanded its industries, and developed new technologies at an alarming pace. By the late eighth century it had evolved from a perennial victim into one of the most formidable states in Eldervale - feared for its ruthless efficiency, rapid deployments, and terrifying arsenal of mass-destruction weaponry.

Between 780 and 854, Hleidisland launched a sweeping series of campaigns aimed at reclaiming lands it had lost over centuries of humiliation. These wars were not driven by glory, but by memory. When the leadership finally declared their objectives complete, the balance of power across the region had shifted entirely. Most neighboring states learned, quite sensibly, never to challenge Hleidisland again. Only Ornazia, stubborn to the end, refused to accept the new reality.

Their rivalry culminated in the Nahtis Blothahilds War, a grinding, generations-long conflict from 1097 to 1185. It was Ornazia's final gamble at total conquest - and its greatest failure. During the war, Hleidisland forged a powerful alliance with two other nations, giving birth to the Thauris Republic. When the dust finally settled, Ornazia lay broken and exhausted, and Hleidisland stood victorious, hardened, and more feared than ever before. The triumph secured its survival but also earned it a long list of enemies determined to see it fall.

Nowhere is this philosophy more powerfully embodied than in the eastern province of Oculus Ferreum, home to the Supreme National Court of Hleidisland. The ten-story building is less a courthouse than a monument to judgment itself - a vast block of stone so black it seems to swallow daylight. Its façade is almost entirely sealed, broken only by narrow vertical slits that resemble wounds more than windows. At the summit rests a colossal carved eye, expressionless by day and faintly glowing by night, a silent reminder that authority here is permanent and absolute. For centuries the court has overseen some of the most complex and controversial cases in the world, earning a reputation as both meticulous and mercilessly fair.

For all its grim history and formidable military, modern Hleidisland is far more than a fortress with a flag. It has grown into a center of remarkable civilian achievement, renowned for cutting-edge medicine, advanced public health systems, and one of the most sophisticated judicial traditions on the continent. Fields such as law, criminology, and investigative science flourish here, reflecting a national obsession with order, precision, and accountability.

Yet old habits die hard. For much of its history Hleidisland remained suspicious of outsiders, preferring isolation to vulnerability. Only in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries did it begin to open its doors, forming cautious alliances with states such as Senas Tuath, Lepondunon, Abern, and Morthen in the face of shared threats. Even then, it did so carefully - like a survivor learning, at last, to trust the world again.

Brief modern history:

I. INDEPENDENCE AND THE ZETA FLU (1195–1204)

Hleidisland emerged after separation from the Thauris Republic. The Zeta Flu outbreak in 1195 collapsed central authority. Hleidisland was formed through protests and separatist movements amid the chaos. The pandemic lasted until 1204. The death toll exceeded one million - records are scarce.

II. POLITICAL INSTABILITY AND THE RATHJABOKA PURGE (1196–1198)

Eight different leaders rose and fell in quick succession - many succumbing to the flu, being deposed, or assassinated. Factionalism brought the nation to the brink of collapse. Ermanaric Wulfhardt Althamer consolidated his Niujis Airus Gaskafts (NAG) with three other factions - Ains Framtida Gaskafts (AFG), Thiudangardis Usriusts Gaskafts (TUG), and Usinawjōs Gaskafts (UG) - forming the Niujis Hleidislandis Usriusts Gaskafts (NHUG). On 23 February 1198, the coalition orchestrated a successful coup.

With the Zeta Flu still rampant, Althamer initiated the "Rathjaboka" - a bloody purge. Over four weeks, thousands were executed or disappeared, most under cover of night. Order was restored.

III. COMBATING THE ZETA FLU AND THE ANDAWAIRP THIUDO PLAN (1198–1209)

Althamer implemented accelerated medical programs, nationwide quarantines, and strict containment measures. Policies were harsh but effective. Within a few years, the pandemic was under control.

In 1209, Althamer initiated the "Andawairp Thiudo" Plan - reshaping moral, political, and economic foundations, harmonizing spiritual integrity with material progress.

IV. THE NAHTAIS SKAIRTS PURGE AND THE ASSASSINATION OF ALTHAMER (1209)

The "Nahtais Skairts" - a second purge described as "cleansing of the nation's impurities" - was brutal and swift, lasting just over a month. Most operations occurred under cover of night.

On 17 March 1209, Arithareiks Nahtius Thiudans, a high-ranking official, assassinated Althamer with a single bullet to the back of the head - orchestrated by dissenting members within the government. Thiudans assumed leadership.

V. THE AUGON SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM AND THE FLAME OF 1226 (1209–1226)

Thiudans continued the Andawairp Thiudo Plan, adding the "Augon" initiative - a comprehensive surveillance system. Monitoring devices were installed across the nation. The Nahtais Skairts was declared complete in 1213.

On 5 October 1226, a massive fire spread through the northern region, lasting until 9 October. Three provinces were heavily affected after a factory accident ignited the blaze, carried uncontrollably by strong winds. Around 70% of buildings were destroyed. Thousands perished - many from asphyxiation or being trapped in burning structures. "The Flame of 1226" became one of the most catastrophic events since independence.

VI. THE ZETA FLU VACCINE AND THE HUGJANS GAFURDS ACT (1230–1250)

On 9 February 1230, the Zeta Flu vaccine was completed. The government launched a nationwide mass vaccination campaign. Hleidisland improved medical infrastructure: rapid disease-detection systems, air-filtration technologies, and elite medical brigades within the armed forces.

At the beginning of November 1250, the Hugjans Gafaurds Act was implemented - standardizing production, reducing waste, and improving efficiency of state-funded projects.

VII. THE WAR WITH ORNAZIA AND THE EIGHTY DAYS AT DRAUMFELL (1271–1273)

On 19 February 1271, war erupted with Ornazia. Hleidisland sought to regain land lost a hundred years earlier. Initial advances faltered. By late 1271, the army was pushed back to its own borders.

The "Eighty Days at Draumfell" (12 May – 31 July 1272) was the most devastating episode. Draumfell, a strategic city 300 kilometers northwest of the Ornazian border, saw relentless combat. Entire units were annihilated. Hleidisland unveiled its most advanced weaponry and successfully defended the city after eighty days of siege. The nation was left too exhausted to pursue further offensives.

By 1273, civil unrest emerged. On 16 July 1273, Hleidisland signed the Treaty of Caer Dunath. No territorial losses, but the war yielded nothing but loss and hardship.

VIII. THE COUP OF ALARICUS WULFAHARI FILIUS NIGER (1273)

Ruling leader Thiudareiks Wulfisun Wulfilaizos was compelled to resign. A power vacuum followed. Martial law was imposed. Alaricus Wulfahari filius Niger, the highest-ranking military officer, launched a coup. On 30 July 1273, he formally assumed power.

IX. RECOVERY AND THE GAIDA FANALIS PLAN (1273–1278)

Wulfahari initiated recovery and reform. Public honors were instituted for every soldier. Within two years, much of the war's destruction was repaired. Hleidisland emerged as one of the most formidable military powers in the region.

On 4 June 1276, Hleidisland signed the Treaty of Shared Resolve with Bellatorum - strengthening ties and mutual defense against Ornazia, deepening enmity.

During 1277–1278, the "Gaida Fanalis" Plan declared that Hleidisland was destined to lead, justifying expansionist ambitions. Propaganda proclaimed surrounding nations were obliged to submit. Large-scale mobilization and intensified weapons production followed.

X. THE FIRST SOUTHERN CAMPAIGN (1279–1280)

On 7 November 1279, war broke out between Hleidisland and the Coalition of Draviskas, Toutanglom, and Raginheim. The war lasted just over nine months. Hleidisland captured Galdwen (Draviskas) on 5 September 1280 and Grotthain (Raginheim) on 10 September 1280. The Coalition surrendered. A peace treaty compelled all three nations to cede eight percent of their territory and pay substantial reparations.

XI. TERRORIST ATTACKS AND THE SECOND SOUTHERN CAMPAIGN (1281–1282)

Eight months after the treaty, a series of terrorist attacks occurred over three weeks. The Bombing of the Draumthaur Centre Tower in Wadaibar (19 May 1281) killed hundreds. Agents from the former Coalition states were responsible.

Hleidisland declared war again on 21 May 1281 - the Second Southern Campaign. The Coalition had reinforced its military. Hleidisland faced severe setbacks but launched a successful counteroffensive. Hleidisland's forces approached the capital of Raginheim but failed to capture it. The campaign stalled at the Saldune River (Draviskas) and the Sakramunt Mountain Range (Toutanglom).

The war concluded on 3 October 1282. A second peace treaty allowed Hleidisland to retain all annexed territories. The Coalition paid another round of heavy reparations and compensation for the terrorist attacks.

XII. PROJECT HARJAMAHT AND THE DECLARATION OF WAR ON ORNAZIA (1282–1291)

From 1282 to 1285, Project Harjamahts improved living standards and developed new military doctrines. An offensive against Ornazia planned for 1287 was postponed due to an industrial explosion and the need to upgrade logistics and technology.

On 9 March 1291, following the escalation of the Second Great War, Hleidisland declared war on Ornazia, claiming the need to protect its ally, Alcludion.

XIII. THE SECOND GREAT WAR OF ELDERVALE - HLEIDISLAND THEATRE (1291–1294)

Hleidisland pushed roughly three hundred kilometers into Ornazia through the Battle of Orphanelis, Battle of Orzeltrix Hill, and Operation Aiwagelþs. Both sides settled into prolonged standoff.

On 28 October 1291, Toutanglom and Raginheim declared war on Hleidisland to reclaim lost territories. The Coalition rapidly recaptured much of the annexed land within weeks. Hleidis forces halted the advance just thirty kilometers from the Hleidis mainland. The Coalition offered peace; Hleidisland refused.

Hleidisland recaptured Stainaburgs Fortress (Raginheim) after more than three months of assaults. One year later, capture of Grotthain (Raginheim) allowed Hleidis forces to advance to within four hundred kilometers of the Raginheim capital. Hleidisland seized much of northern Toutanglom but, with forces divided across three fronts, could not sustain major offensives and was forced back to defense.

Throughout 1293, Hleidisland forces committed massacres against soldiers and civilians in Toutanglom and Raginheim - at least 700,000 deaths, primarily mass executions by shooting. The most infamous were Gundarvik, Brechthalla, and Nerfinium, remembered for extraordinary brutality. Hleidisland authorities never denied responsibility, asserting these acts were justice and retribution for the Zeta Flu outbreak long ago.

After three years of continuous warfare, all sides showed exhaustion. Morale collapsed. Desertion became widespread. Hleidisland's economy was devastated. Deep divisions emerged within the government.

XIV. THE PAX OF SERAPHIC AND THE DEATH OF WULFAHARI (1294–1295)

On 29 June 1294, the Pax of Seraphic was announced. On 5 July, Alaricus Wulfahari filius Niger signed the treaty amid public outrage. He regarded it as a profound humiliation - for both Hleidisland and its fallen soldiers - and signed only under unavoidable pressure. All plans for a "Great Hleidisland" were permanently abandoned.

One year after the Pax, Wulfahari died of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), ending his decades-long leadership.

XV. THE LEADERSHIP OF RAUTHMAR SIGISWINTHS HARJAWULFS (1295–1351)

During a national ceremony, Rauthmar Sigiswinths Harjawulfs was elected. Under his leadership, the nation recovered within three years. He declared that one day Hleidisland's ambitions would be fulfilled and the honor of the state redeemed. He continued developing military technology and promoting cultural advancement.

In 1308, the Accord of Mutual Trade was signed with Toutanglom, Raginheim, and Draviskas to reduce animosity. Trade became vibrant, but relations remained distant with minimal trust. No formal treaty was ever concluded with Ornazia beyond a limited agreement pledging no harassment.

On 5 April 1334, the Harjisafsts Haus - the largest industrial complex in Hleidisland - was inaugurated in the central region. Its planning and construction spanned nearly two decades.

Between 6 June and 9 July 1343, the government implemented the Fralusts Wardskos Policy - an extensive surveillance initiative. Monitoring instruments were deployed throughout the state, enabling facial recognition, audio capture, and personal detection. The population lived under continuous observation. The Office of Internal Safeguards became the principal institution administering the network.

After Rauthmar's death, Alaric Noctifer Ravenshade was elected in 1351 and continued to thrive the nation.

XVI. WEAPONS DEVELOPMENT AND THE PRELUDE TO THE THIRD GREAT WAR

In the decades following the Pax, Hleidisland experienced sustained scientific and technological advancement. Several high-tier weapons entered the arsenal:

Despite restrictions imposed by the Pax of Seraphic, Hleidisland never abandoned its vision of a 'Greater Hleidisland.' Through persistent propaganda, the idea of conquering other nations - especially former enemies - was continually promoted. This process persisted throughout the entire period of peace, until the outbreak of the Third Great War.

Political ideology: Ainsaugotha

Vortical Triumphalism is a political ideology that declares stasis as death, insisting that a border which does not expand is already collapsing inward. Consequently, the state never publishes maps with fixed borders; instead, society is structured as a pyramid of conquest, where status is determined entirely by the amount of new territory, resources, or population brought under the state's control within a single lifetime. Mercy toward the weak is redefined as cruelty by neglect - to leave a people unconquered is to condemn them to their own inefficient, squabbling, and purposeless existence. The ideology therefore believes it has a sacred duty to impose its order, language, and calendar upon all it encounters, viewing conquest not merely as taking land but as Digesting the Enemy. The act of movement toward a target is the highest spiritual state, glorifying the long, unbroken line of soldiers, settlers, and supply wagons advancing over the ridge. There is no peaceful retirement for the citizen; the only honorable death is one that occurs beyond the current border. Vortical Triumphalism forbids contentment - no achievement is ever final, no victory ever total - so upon conquering a continent, the state does not celebrate but immediately prepares for another conquest. Any attachment to a specific place is a weakness that slows the march, and aging is treated as a form of internal surrender; the body that weakens is a traitor to the March. The state dedicates vast resources to ensuring its warrior class remains physically capable of conquest indefinitely, with medical science existing not for comfort but for combat longevity. Finally, when a people are conquered, it is not enough to take their land and their labor - their memory and their name must also be taken. Upon final victory over an enemy civilization, the state initiates a century-long process of linguistic annihilation to ensure nothing of the conquered remains.
