Chapter 89 - ACT TWO: THE OCEAN OF AIR

CHAPTER 5: VOYAGE INTO THE UNKNOWN

As they climbed higher, the world changed. The blue of the sky deepened into violet, then into a rich, dark indigo where the stars shone even in the daytime. The air grew thin and cold, but Kaelen's engines hummed with life, creating a bubble of breathable atmosphere around the ship.

"It's beautiful," Lyra whispered, looking out at the view. Below them, the clouds stretched out like a white sea, lit from beneath by the sun. Above, the darkness of space sparked with infinite light.

But beauty hid danger.

On the third day of their journey, they encountered a field of floating islands made not of rock, but of solidified sound. Huge, jagged crystals that hummed with low frequencies that made their teeth ache and their bones vibrate.

"Steer clear!" Reeve shouted. "Those are resonance shards! Touch one, and you'll be shaken apart into atoms!"

Kaelen worked the controls, his hands moving swiftly over the levers. "The ship's hull is resonating with them too. I can't hold us steady!"

Lyra closed her eyes, ignoring the fear. She remembered the songs of the wind, the language of the sky. She began to hum—a low, steady tone that matched the rhythm of the ship's engines.

"Kaelen! Match your engine speed to this!" she called out.

Kaelen adjusted the thrusters, syncing their vibration with Lyra's song. Slowly, miraculously, the shards around them stopped vibrating violently. They seemed to recognize the harmony, and a path opened up through the field.

"How did you do that?" Kaelen asked, breathless.

"The wind isn't just force," Lyra smiled. "It's music. And we just had to find the right note to play along with it."
