It had been well past thirty minutes by this point, and Jairo was walking back to the main parts of the camp, Letting out a yawn As he blinked aggressively, trying to keep his eyes open.
Jairo had killed the beast and saved Theon's life, so naturally after getting pushed past, he left him to skin the meat so that he didn't have to.
Jairo looked around and saw a few of the other boys coming back as well in their duos, usually with one carrying Meat and the other carrying wood.
'I bet I look really dumb carrying around nothing huh?'
The day had just started, but he was already hungry and now that his belly was filled, he was looking to rest.
two life threatening fights in one single day had worn him out. That said every team at least brought something, and he was noticed by a few boys who had come back already.
Some probably for the color of his fur, and others for the more obvious. Why did he come back with nothing?
Before some of their questions could get loud enough for him to hear, Emory walked lazily to where everyone had gathered. His eyes scanned and saw that everyone had done something.
He seemed mildly impressed, a small smirk on his face that stayed there until his eyes finally reached Jairo.
"…Well for most of you, I would say that I'm impressed. After a long walk you've managed to gather a lot for when the day ends. Some of you have a few things you could work on."
As Emory said these things he made sure to not look at the person he was speaking about, making it even funnier for those around him.
He heard snickers in the background and the urge to leave during the nighttime had never been stronger.
'Just get on on with it. I want to go to bed.'
He didn't even have the energy to carry anymore either. 'am I to back and start getting things now? I was too busy saving lives.'
This was just one of the many reasons why He could not be a superhero. Not getting credit for saving people was just not worth it.
"Well, you're next task is to put all of your things into a pile, specifically your wood. We're making a fire."
A few of the boys who were tired of carrying the weight began to walk forward with their piles of wooden sticks before dropping them in the middle of where everyone was standing.
Jairo felt a tap on his shoulder. As he turned around, he Saw Theon. His expression was neutral and he was holding A nice cut of meat
Just a bit bigger than his hand, seemingly offering it up to him.
Jairo took it without hesitation, quickly reaching up and grabbing it. He had eaten somewhat, but deep down Jairo knew that those berries would not hold him down when it was time to rest. He would likely wake up hungry again.
"Thank you." He said, but he did not get a response. Then stood within a few feet of him and looked towards the forest, seeming to be waiting for Gabriel.
Jairo turned that way too as he had nothing better to do. "Where the hell did you go Gabriel?"
Emory walker closer to the fire, with a torch in his hand this time. As he lit it, Jairo heard footsteps in the background. Making sure to turn around this time, he saw Gabriel with a few sticks of his own.
Jairo looked at him and he looked back, both not saying anything. It was a bit awkward, but Gabriel set that aside as he went to go place down his bit of wood as well. it wasn't as big as average, but it would do.
Afterwards, Theon handed him a piece of meat.
"Thank you." He said as he began waiting for a chance to roast it over the fire.
"Don't worry about it." Theon replied before seeming to stare into the fire.
Jairo was having thoughts, but decided instead on a test. "Thanks again for the food." He said.
Surprisingly, he got no response.
He walked up to Gabriel. "Think he's still mad at me?" He said with a confused look.
For the first time, Jairo heard a chuckle escape the mouth of the young boy. He didn't even think Gabriel was capable of such a feat.
Eventually The fire grew and the boys began roasting their food over it.
It was begun to turn into the afternoon now.
Emory looked to the sky, before looking back down at the boys. "The day is not over yet. Go look around, speak to a few of the others here who are more experienced. They don't bite I promise." He said as he stood up.
"Do whatever you wish, but the rest of of day is yours."
