Chapter 91 - Treason

Ray took a sip from his tea. "Tastes like shit..." Once more he looked around the small cafe; the place seemed like a time capsule. No sign of modern life existed in the small village that he had come to.

For unknown reasons Katherina had proposed to meet him in a small village in the south of their continent with around ten thousand people; the people of the village called Last Distance had ignored all human technologies and lived their own simple lives.

His body well hided his excitement, that night had had long plans with a private party in Iri's house for giving him special thanks for saving his son, plus Raol's wife was gonna be present too.

"Why is she late?" He whispered to himself as his phone vibrated constantly with messages. At times the works' company became like that, and the simplest solution was to let others take care of the jobs.

After a few more minutes of staring at the wooden walls with the oldest paintings he had seen in a long time, he decided to make contact with his partner in crime.

Before he could reach her through the system, a voice rang in his head, "Looking for me?"

The voice was the familiar voice of Katarina, but all of his muscles tensed up. Before anything he activated his teleportation device.

Nothing happened...

After trying another time and having the same outcome, he switched to his own magic teleportation, yet it didn't work either.

His mind started to consider any option he had; this place was the perfect space for a secret, and the same features made it perfect for a trap. A field that could block teleporting without him noticing meant the military was involved.

"I'm still level 4, fuck..." He didn't know how much time he still had before they caught up to him. His mind called upon all the dark crystals in his inventory, making an ocean of hell flame; it was his most obvious card and, at the same time, the most effective one.

His blue eyes shone with killing intent; the person behind the bar didn't know what was going on, but the feeling of discomfort made him sick to the stomach. No matter how hard Ray searched in his system, there was not even one single crystal of any kind, and that was now even the worst part; all of his weapons had vanished into thin air.

"You know I'm going to kill you, right?" His thoughts were calm despite his dire situation.

"You are already a dead man; why not help your old friend as a stepping stone?"

While his magic started to scan the area around the small cafe, he decided to continue the conversation; even the smallest details could be the line between death and life. "Interesting, you think some stupid people from the military can catch me?"

"Just give up ... It's not military that you are against; it's me. Do you really believe in yourself to be able to face me?" Her emotions started to explode suddenly: "Even in our previous life you couldn't be compared to me or Jade; the only reason for your success was pure luck that we saw you as more suited as an ally, but now with your corrupted mind and a clock on your head, there is no reason for you to live anymore."

Ray laughed from the bottom of his heart, "You surely hold that inside of yourself for so long, yet remember that if I return, you will be my first target."

Katarina viewed Ray's mind before returning to her own body; her gains were beyond comprehension, but whatever that was deeper inside of his mind probably had the ability to fight her.

"That's a big if, and I would love to see you try." She closed all of her connections with Ray, including his harem, even though everyone else had already left it. "I will bring roses to your grave."

Wasting no energy to respond to her, Ray still sat on his small wooden chair. One type of magic was floating in the air above the building, eliminating the possible squads; only two options remained.

"With the death squad I might be able to bargain, but the Blight squad could only mean one...." The sound of the head breaking broke his chain of thought; seeing who stepped in the room, his expression grew more and more vivid.

His knowledge was so little about the person, but the name only was enough to know that he was seriously ruined.

Vice General the sun stealer.

"A level 7? Really?"
