Chapter 590 - Chapter 597: Fork in the Road

What game was she playing? Seeing how addicted the gaming dragon had become, Bella's curiosity stirred, and she turned around to take a couple of looks.

The games in this world were not the same as those from her previous life, but the basic idea that spending money could make you stronger was similar. For game companies, this was the easiest and fastest way to make money.

Using Bella's former name, "Daisy Johnson," the Divine Dragon had already spent who knew how much money on this game. At the moment, she was slaughtering everyone in sight.

"You're wasting my money again!" Bella had always been very generous with the people close to her. She was often away from home, and she was not short of money, so she had casually set up a spare account for the Divine Dragon and Bumblebee to use.

Buying daily necessities, fuel, metal blocks, anime merchandise, and similar things all seemed like normal expenses to her.

Now it appeared that the dumb kid Bumblebee probably had not enjoyed many benefits at all. The Divine Dragon had squandered all the money...

The Divine Dragon snorted at the accusation. "Haven't you heard the saying? 'When you spend money on a game, the money isn't gone. It's just staying with you in another form!' I haven't wasted anything. The money is still here, really..."

Hearing this girl argue back nearly made Bella furious. She grabbed the Divine Dragon by the neck and shook her back and forth for a long while.

During that time, Bella used the corner of her eye to glance at the game the Divine Dragon was playing. Her expression gradually became exaggerated. "Tch, rookie! No, rookie dragon! Watch me teach you a lesson!"

She pulled out her own laptop, quickly spent some money, and joined the battle.

"Oh? This actually looks kind of fun!" Natasha watched for a moment too. Hmph, two weaklings. Watch me! I'm joining!

Eight-month-old Little Elsa looked at Dad, looked at Mom, then looked at the pet dragon. Her tiny face filled with disappointment. Why are none of you paying attention to me? I must be adopted!

Even though the child was quiet and intelligent, she was still very young. As she thought about it, her nose stung and she burst into tears.

"Oh, oh! Nata, look! You made the baby cry! Seriously, look what you've done..." Bella immediately shifted the blame.

Natasha became a little nervous too. "How is this my fault? Wait until I kill this guy! Die, die! Good, got him! All right, all right, baby, don't cry, don't cry..."

The game was certainly fun, but they could not ignore the child either. In the end, Little Elsa sat on Bella's shoulders and watched them play. From time to time, the two women tickled the soles of her feet and patted her little bottom...

Charlie's family made Las Vegas their first stop after entering Nevada!

Las Vegas was not only about gambling. Of the more than thirty million tourists who visited every year, well over half came to shop and enjoy the food. Only the smaller remaining portion came to gamble.

The family avoided all gambling-related places. They dressed no differently from ordinary tourists, casually browsing and wandering around.

As a former elite agent, Natasha had visited Las Vegas many times, but those trips had all been for missions. She had rushed in and rushed out. The feeling was completely different from casually strolling around with her family now.

Charlie's family split into three groups. Charlie and Samantha took their younger daughter and formed one group.

The gaming dragon stayed in the vehicle and kept playing. Jazz and the other three vehicles could use holographic technology to play cards in a corner of the parking garage, so they formed another group.

Natasha carried their daughter, while she and Bella formed the last group.

They also stayed away from gambling-related places. Don't be fooled by people saying, "It's fine, just play around a little." The places were full of tricks. Once you went inside, there was no way to leave without losing some money.

The family of three left the hotel.

Their hotel was interesting too. It was Las Vegas's famous pyramid hotel!

The entire property was like an enormous resort. It consisted of a thirty-story pyramid-shaped building and two stepped towers. There was also a Sphinx outside, while the operators had even excavated a 457-meter-long "Nile River" inside the hotel. Tourists who wanted to ride along the river had to pay three dollars per person.

"Doesn't seem that interesting?" Bella carried both of their bags and looked around from time to time.

She did not like this city. She did not like it at all. The noise and extravagant excess made her uncomfortable.

"Someone is following us," Natasha said quietly.

Bella had noticed as well. There were three men in total, speaking Mexican Spanish, all between twenty and thirty-five years old.

"They're probably targeting Charlie. Let's keep watching for now." Bella swept over the three men twice with telepathy. They were all small fry. For the moment, they were simply tailing the family, and she could not see any larger purpose.

They did not act because they were afraid of alerting whoever was behind them, and also because they did not want to hurt anyone by mistake. A reporter had once tried to secretly photograph them and had nearly been shot in the head by Natasha.

Natasha disliked this passive situation. She handed the child to Bella. "I'll be right back."

Bella carried the child through the streets and alleys. From time to time, she saw gamblers being dragged out by casino staff, and at other times tourists who had lost their wallets or bank cards. Behind all the prosperity, this city was filled with crime.

Before long, Natasha caught up with her again.

Her operation had ultimately been pointless. The men following them did not even know the family's names. They only knew someone had given them one hundred dollars. They knew nothing else. Following the trail to its source ultimately led only to a reporter trying to dig up dirt.

"Forget it. This kind of thing will happen more often in the future. Get used to it." Bella comforted her wife.

The two of them only wandered through the food and shopping streets before returning to the hotel.

"It really isn't interesting. Much worse than I expected." Samantha, who had gone shopping elsewhere, did not exactly hate Las Vegas, but she did not like it either.

Charlie felt much the same. The city had too many adult-oriented attractions and really was not suitable for a family trip. Jazz, Bumblebee, and the others also found it boring, so he immediately decided, "We're leaving tomorrow!"

Early the next morning, the family got back on the highway.

The western United States was actually extremely desolate and sparsely populated. Driving for half a day without seeing a single person was perfectly normal.

There obviously wasn't just one route from Los Angeles to Washington. This was Charlie's first road trip, so whenever they encountered a fork in the road or road construction, he would stop and ask for directions.

Bella and Natasha each had their own abilities, but at times like this, they would not take over Charlie's role as head of the family. There was no need.

Near the border between Utah and Nevada, the convoy stopped in front of a run-down gas station. Charlie spent quite a while gesturing back and forth with an old man who had a very heavy accent.

"That way? Are you sure there's a road over there?" Charlie looked hesitantly at the rough little road. This direction seemed different from what he had previously understood.

"Two miles from here, turn left onto that dirt road. It'll take you through the mountains and save you several hours."

The old man was dressed in shabby clothes. His hair was thin, and his entire body carried a sour smell. His eyes were cloudy and his speech slurred. It took him ages to get even that simple sentence out.
