Chapter 60 - Chapter 60 End of war

The heavy, metallic scent of the battlefield slowly dissipated, replaced by the cool mountain breeze whistling through the canyon.

Minato Namikaze stood amidst the ruin of the Iwa battalion, his gaze lingering on the charred, geometric slices in the earth where Lucifer's blade had erased existence itself.

"The bridge is still standing,"

Lucifer remarked, breaking the silence as he leaned back against a jagged rock, casually tossing the bell Kakashi had given him into the air and catching it.

"Though I doubt the guys across the way are in any hurry to cross it now."

Minato turned, his signature white cloak fluttering.

"You've done more than enough, Lucifer-san. But the mission isn't finished until the supply line is officially severed. However..."

He looked at Kakashi and Obito. The mask-wearing prodigy and the newly awakened Uchiha were standing side-by-side, the usual friction between them replaced by a shared, quiet intensity.

"I think the 'students' have something to prove."

Minato gestured toward the massive stone structure spanning the gorge.

"Kakashi, Obito. This was meant to be your test. Lucifer-san has cleared the path, but the final strike belongs to Team Minato. Use the coordination you found today."

As the three youngsters—including Rin, who stood ready with her medical kits—moved toward the bridge's structural anchors, Minato moved to stand beside Lucifer.

The "Yellow Flash" was no longer the cheerful teacher; he was the future Hokage, his blue eyes sharp with a weight that most men couldn't carry.

"A private word, Lucifer-san?"

Minato asked, his voice low enough that even the keen ears of the Shinobi wouldn't catch it.

Lucifer tilted his head, his Fundamental Insight reading the slight tension in Minato's posture.

"I figured you'd have questions. Most people do when they see a 'Ronin' splitting mountains."

"It's not just the power,"

Minato said, looking out over the horizon toward the hidden borders of the Land of Earth.

"This war... it's changing people. I see the way Kakashi looks at you. He sees a path that doesn't involve the pain of loss. But I see the Void you carry. It's a heavy burden for someone who claims to just be a Ronin."

Lucifer let out a soft, dry laugh.

"Everything has a price, Minato-san. You pay with your time and your speed. I pay with the 'Nothingness' I leave behind. But let's be real—you didn't pull me aside for a philosophy lesson. You're worried about what happens when the war ends."

Minato sighed, a rare moment of vulnerability showing through.

"The Third Great Shinobi War is nearing its end, but the shadows are growing. There are factions in the Leaf—men like Danzō Shimura—who would see your power not as a gift, but as a weapon to be dismantled and studied. I can protect you while I'm their commander, but once we return to the village..."

"I'm not worried about Danzō,"

Lucifer interrupted, his tone chillingly casual.

"If he wants to look into the Void, he's welcome to. But he might find that when he reaches in, nothing comes back out. I'm here for growth, Minato. Not the politics."

A massive explosion rocked the canyon. Lucifer and Minato turned to see the Kannabi Bridge buckling. Obito had used a well-placed Fire Style jutsu to ignite the explosive tags Kakashi had set on the structural weak points.

The stone groaned, a sound like a dying beast, before it collapsed into the misty depths below. The supply line was gone.

The Iwa war effort in the Land of Grass was effectively decapitated.

"We did it!"

Obito's voice echoed through the canyon, his fist pumped into the air.

"Did you see that, Lucifer?! I used the Sharingan to time the spark perfectly!"

Kakashi stood next to him, his breathing heavy but a visible smirk beneath his mask.

"It was... adequate, Obito."

Rin cheered, running up to the two boys. The three of them looked toward Lucifer and Minato, their faces grimy with soot but glowing with the thrill of survival.

The tragedy that should have claimed Obito's life and Kakashi's soul had been diverted, rewritten by the presence of a man who didn't belong in their world.

Three days later, the gates of Konoha loomed ahead. The mood was somber as they entered; wounded soldiers were everywhere, and the village was draped in mourning black for those who hadn't returned.

But for Team Minato, there was a strange, bubbling energy.

True to his word, Lucifer led the group straight to Yakiniku Q, the premier barbecue spot in the village.

"Welcome back, Lord Minato!"

The owner bowed deeply, before his eyes fell on the stranger in the charcoal suit.

"And... the guest?"

"The one paying the bill,"

Lucifer said, slapping a heavy bag of Ryō on the counter.

"I want the best cuts. Premium marbled beef, tongue, the works. And keep it coming until the goggle-kid passes out."

The dinner was a blur of sizzling meat and laughter.

For the first time, Lucifer dropped his persona entirely. He sat with his jacket off, his sleeves rolled up, expertly flipping pieces of beef over the charcoal grill.

"So, Lucifer,"

Obito said, his mouth full of short ribs.

"Now that we're heroes and all... are you gonna stay? You could be a Jonin! Maybe even join the Anbu!"

Lucifer sipped a glass of cold tea, watching the fire.

"I'm Ronin, kid. I've got other places to be, other things to see. But I think I'll stick around for a bit. There's still a lot this village hasn't shown me yet."

Rin looked at him softly.

"You saved us, Lucifer-san. Not just from the Iwa ninjas, but... I feel like you saved us from something else. Something dark."

"The dark is easy to beat if you have a big enough light,"

Lucifer said, glancing at Kakashi.

"Or if you just decide you're darker than the shadows."

Kakashi didn't say much, but he was eating more than usual. Every so often, he would look at the bell Lucifer had placed on the table—a symbol of the "Ronin" who had taught him that rules are nothing compared to the will to protect.

The celebration was interrupted by the sliding of a door. Two men in white masks and grey flak jackets stood at the entrance. Anbu.

"Lucifer-san,"

One of them said, their voice distorted by the mask.

"The Hokage and the Council of Elders request your presence at the Administrative Building. Immediately."

The table went silent. Obito started to stand up, his face reddening.

"Hey! We just got back! He's with us!"

Lucifer held up a hand, silencing the boy.

He stood up slowly, grabbing his jacket.

"It's fine, Obito. Eat your meat. I expected the 'thank you' party to be a bit more formal anyway."

He turned to Minato, who had a look of grim resignation.

"I'll handle this, Lucifer,"

Minato whispered.

"No need,"

Lucifer replied, a sharp, dangerous glint in his eye as he walked toward the door.

"I've dealt with old people before. They usually have shorter tempers than I do."
