Chapter 45 - Chapter 44

Benjamin peered over the back seat.

Cyrus stuck half his head out the side window.

Destiny crouched on the floor, peeking through a crack.

Keuirseu stood on the bumper holding popcorn.

All blinking at the scene like it was a live soap opera.

Benjamin whispered,

"Oh damn… Dyren is winning today."

Cyrus whispered back,

"Constant needs to get his act together before Dyren eats him alive."

Destiny gasped,

"They're holding hands!"

Keuirseu pointed dramatically,

"AND THEY'RE CUDDLING—THIS IS A FULL-POWER FLEX—"

Matthew: "Should I take another picture? For evidence?"

Joseph: "YES."

The only person who didn't care?

Big Jim.

Driving with dead eyes saying:

"If y'all don't shut up, I'm turning this apocalypse around."

Snow continued falling.

Blood Reaper leaned against Dyren's shoulder—

but her eyes flicked once toward Constant.

As if she felt his pain.

As if she didn't know what to do.

And the snow kept falling…

quietly hiding the storm inside her heart.

Snow kept falling…

Then falling harder…

Until the sky turned WHITE.

The wind howled in strange patterns — not normal, not natural, not earthly.

Cyrus gripped the edge of the truck bed.

"This isn't weather…"

Destiny's breath froze instantly.

Keuirseu's hair stood up like static.

Benjamin whispered, "This is magic."

The truck slowed from the heavy snow piling on the road, tires struggling—

Blood Reaper sighed.

"Enough."

Her eyes glowed white-gold.

She snapped her fingers.

FWOOOM—!!!

The entire truck teleported.

Everyone screamed and wobbled.

Big Jim held the wheel like it owed him money.

Matthew threw up a little.

Joseph clutched the seat yelling, "I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS—"

They reappeared in the middle of…

A town.

Except—

Every building, every car, every person—

was frozen in snow.

Not dead.

Not frozen to death.

Just…

paused.

Like the snow stopped time.

Hundreds of people stood still in the streets, covered in frost, eyes wide, breathing slowly.

Destiny whispered, "Oh my God…"

Then—

A shadow moved above.

A presence heavier than the blizzard itself.

A Moon Queen dropped from the sky.

Her wings were made of snow-white feathers that dripped frost.

Her hair long and shimmering like falling ice.

Her gown woven from frozen moonlight.

Her skin pale blue, glowing with cold power.

A Snow Moon Queen.

She landed silently, cold wind spiraling around her, freezing the truck wheels in place.

Everyone braced for battle.

Dyren: "Oh GREAT. Another lunatic moon goddess."

Constant: "Reaper—don't—this isn't safe—"

Cyrus: "She's powerful as hell—"

But Blood Reaper…

did not hesitate.

She didn't summon fire.

She didn't threaten.

She didn't posture.

She jumped off the truck—

and SPRINTED toward the Moon Queen.

Everyone watched, horrified.

Kenna screamed, "REAPER, NO—!!"

Dyren tensed to attack.

Constant lunged forward to follow her.

Benjamin grabbed a gun.

The Moon Queen's eyes widened—

and she opened her arms.

Blood Reaper SLAMMED into her—

not with violence—

but with an embrace.

The two clung to each other.

Tight.

Desperate.

Like they hadn't seen each other in centuries.

Like they were family.

Like they were home.

Everyone went DEAD silent.

Even the blizzard paused.

Keuirseu mouthed,

"…WHAT. THE. HELL."

Cyrus whispered,

"Does she— KNOW her?"

Dyren's wings drooped.

"That's… impossible."

Constant stared, heart pounding.

The Moon Queen held Blood Reaper's face in both hands—

stroking her cheeks with tenderness no Moon Queen had ever shown anyone.

Tears of ice ran down her face.

She whispered something in their forgotten celestial language:

"My sister… you're alive."

Blood Reaper's eyes softened for the first time since she was born.

She whispered back:

"Moonlight… I thought you were dead."

They fell into each other's arms again—

While the frozen town,

the blizzard,

and the entire group

watched in stunned silence.
