Chapter 235: "Wànxiàng Communicator," Wang Dong and Xiao Xiao

Aside from expanding the industry chain, Ye Chen was also personally crafting new soul tools.

He started by improving and upgrading his own flying soul tool, then moved on to inventing a few practical little gadgets.

Among them, the one he was most satisfied with was a communication-type soul tool he discovered in the Wànxiàng Compendium.

It was a tiny device—no bigger than a pinky finger. Although its core formation array was only at the second-grade level, the intricacy of its construction rivaled that of a peak grade-six soul tool.

Even with Ye Chen's remarkable talent, it took him a full day and night without rest to complete just one.

The internal design was extremely complex, but its capabilities were equally impressive. It was small enough to wear as a bracelet, pendant, or amulet—entirely unobtrusive and not interfering with combat at all.

The tool's main function was instant communication, akin to an old-world pager—it allowed two users to talk directly at any time. Due to limitations in signal strength, its current range only covered all of Shrek City; beyond that, it failed.

If out of range or unanswered, the user could leave a voice message.

Items with functions similar to modern mobile phones were also described in the Wànxiàng Compendium, but their level of difficulty and the rarity of required materials were far beyond Ye Chen's current ability. Many of the metals listed were names he hadn't even heard before.

For now, Ye Chen could only produce the most basic version—a simplified communicator, which he named the "Wànxiàng Communicator."

This was only the first generation. Once more rare metals were found, he planned to iterate the design, adding new features and expanding its power.

His initial plan was to give prototypes to Wang Dong and her group to test.

If the results were good, he would pass the design to the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Clan for mass production.

After leaving the Soul Tool Department, Ye Chen returned to the Tang Sect headquarters.

He first enjoyed a hearty lunch prepared with care by Ye Yunxi.

After a brief rest, he headed to his quiet chamber to cultivate for the afternoon.

Cultivation, for him, was like having permanent acceleration enabled—if he neglected it too often, he'd start feeling off-balance.

His system awarded attribute points daily, and the amounts only kept increasing.

So whenever possible, Ye Chen would take time to train, experiencing firsthand how his strength continued to grow.

The late sunset filtered through the windows, scattering golden light across the spotless floor. Warm and peaceful silence filled the entire courtyard.

Having finished his practice, Ye Chen was about to grab a small dessert when his spiritual sense detected two familiar presences approaching.

"Perfect timing," he said with a smirk. "Just in time for dinner~"

With a subtle wave of spiritual power, the courtyard gate opened automatically.

Moments later, two elegant silhouettes appeared at the entrance—Wang Dong and Xiao Xiao.

Their arrival was like twin rays of spring sunlight, instantly brightening the tranquil courtyard.

Wang Dong had clearly dressed up with care today.

She wore a light sky-blue dress, gentle as a cloudless day and faintly sweet in hue. The well-fitted fabric traced her gradually maturing curves, the hem daringly stopping just a few inches above her knees—revealing a pair of long, perfectly straight legs.

Her skin was smooth and fair, as if sculpted from white jade.

And, to appeal to someone's particular preferences, her slender legs were encased in sheer white pantyhose, thin as gossamer and gleaming with a soft pearlescent sheen.

Her pastel-blue hair fell loosely around her shoulders, the tips swaying slightly as she walked. A bright, expectant smile graced her face, vivid as a spring blossom eager to catch the light.

Beside her walked the cheerful and adorable Xiao Xiao.

Her short, vibrant green hair was tied into two lively ponytails that bounced with each step.

She too had dressed for the occasion—wearing a new light-green dress, fresh and tender like newly-sprouted spring leaves. Against her fair skin, it made her look even more delicate.

Her skirt, designed in a cute loli style, was slightly puffed and ended halfway down her thighs, revealing her soft, rounded legs.

Her legs were wrapped in a pair of pure white over-the-knee stockings, nearly transparent, the top edges pressing faintly against the soft flesh of her thighs—an irresistible sight that instantly drew Ye Chen's eyes.

"Ye Chen~"

Xiao Xiao's eyes sparkled as she called out softly. A shy blush colored her cheeks, and her voice trembled like spun sugar.

She wanted nothing more than to run into his arms and kiss him fiercely—but with Wang Dong right beside her, she forced herself to hold back.

"Ye Chen! You big jerk, why haven't you come to see us for so long?"

Unlike Xiao Xiao, Wang Dong showed no restraint. She ran straight into Ye Chen's arms and planted a kiss right on his cheek.

Before Ye Chen could respond, he felt a sudden warmth on his lips.

Her kiss was sweet and bold—youthful yet full of longing.

The act was both spontaneous and deliberate, part genuine affection, part playful declaration of ownership in front of Xiao Xiao.

That was Wang Dong's personality—direct, fiery, and possessive.

Ye Chen froze for a moment, then, feeling the warmth of her lips, smiled faintly. He tightened his arms around her waist and returned the kiss gently.

Xiao Xiao, watching from the side, blushed to the tips of her ears. Her heart fluttered with both envy and admiration—but it wasn't a bitter feeling.

She didn't want to compete. She knew Ye Chen too well—he wasn't the type to play favorites.

Even though she'd come later than Wang Dong, he had always treated her with kindness—helping her advance her cultivation, gifting her a precious spirit bone.

She was already deeply grateful for that.

And honestly, since Wang Dong always went first and she came after, she could still... taste a bit of Wang Dong afterward.

Even knowing Wang Dong was a girl didn't bother her—if anything, she found her quite appealing.

Wang Dong's kiss lasted nearly a full minute before she finally pulled away, breathing lightly. Her eyes were glazed with warmth as she looked up at Ye Chen, a radiant smile spreading across her face.

"Hmph~ You haven't come back for ages. Tonight, you'd better make it up to me properly," she murmured, her cheeks flushing.

Of course, the "compensation" she referred to wasn't exactly innocent.

"Alright, alright, whatever you want~" Ye Chen chuckled, lifting a hand to pinch her cheek affectionately before turning toward Xiao Xiao, who had been standing silently by.

"Xiao Xiao, you look beautiful today," Ye Chen said in a softer tone.

Her face turned crimson, but she tilted her head up, whispering nervously, "R-really?"

Her big, watery eyes shimmered with equal parts hope and shyness.

"Of course," Ye Chen murmured, lowering his gaze tenderly.

And then, just as naturally, he leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to Xiao Xiao's soft lips.
