Chapter 131: Odd or Even? Stay Unchanged?
Xiao Yan didn't resist as Xiao Yi Xian snatched back the Seven Colored Poison Codex. He simply grinned and asked, "What do you need a poison manual like this for?"
"I… I'm just a small town healer," Xiao Yi Xian stammered before adding, "Of course I need some poisons for self defense! Not everyone is like you, with such overwhelming strength."
"Heh, if you became my girl, I'd protect you," Xiao Yan teased, his tone as carefree as ever.
"You…" Xiao Yi Xian glanced at him, her gaze dimming momentarily. "Don't waste your time. I don't plan to marry anyone in this lifetime." She smiled faintly, but her voice betrayed a subtle sadness.
"What, did some guy break your heart?" Xiao Yan asked nonchalantly.
"No," she replied with a bright smile, "I just don't want to get hurt by someone like you."
"Heh, are you playing hard to get?" Xiao Yan grinned mischievously, his demeanor one of complete self assurance. "The women I set my sights on never escape me, you know."
"You're insufferable," Xiao Yi Xian muttered, rolling her eyes. "You'd actually look pretty good if you didn't act so ridiculous. Promise me stop being so childish."
Xiao Yan chuckled internally. How dare she speak to me, the Imperial Scion, like that? Truly audacious.
Aloud, he waved dismissively. "Fine, all this stuff is yours. Take it and stop looking at me like that."
"No need. I'll take the herbs and the Seven Colored Poison Codex, but I don't have the luxury of a fancy storage ring like you, Young Master Xiao," she replied with a sigh.
"Well, I just happen to have one ready for you." Xiao Yan suddenly produced an exquisitely crafted white storage ring.
Xiao Yi Xian froze for a moment, her expression softening into something unreadable. She turned her gaze away and sighed. "I'm just a small town girl from Qingshan. Do you really think I'm worth all this?"
The treasures in this cave alone were enough to make even a Dou Wang expert envious. The storage ring in Xiao Yan's hand was clearly also worth a fortune.
"You're absolutely worth it," Xiao Yan said with a grin. He took her soft, pale hand, intending to slip the ring onto her finger.
Xiao Yi Xian stiffened, her expression pained. A single tear fell from her clear, ethereal eyes.
"Go away! Leave me alone!" she shouted, yanking her hand back. Her red, tear streaked eyes stared at him.
"I don't need your affection. I'm fine on my own. Please, just don't bother me anymore!"
Her voice, usually soft and warm, was now tinged with pain and desperation.
So, the Poison Body curse has really taken a toll on her life, Xiao Yan mused, unmoved by her outburst. A flicker of interest flashed in his eyes.
Still, if she's reacting so strongly, it means she's started to care about me. Heh, I just need to break down her emotional barriers a bit more, and she'll be mine.
As these thoughts crossed his mind, Xiao Yan's powerful spiritual senses detected movement outside the cave.
"Hm? Mu Li? That guy again?" Xiao Yan was momentarily surprised.
He'd thought Mu Li understood his strength. Coming here now with backup was practically a death wish.
Before he could process the situation fully, Mu Li's voice echoed through the cave.
"Heh heh… Xiao Yan! Today's your unlucky day!" Mu Li's speech was still slurred, his swollen lips making him sound ridiculous.
Xiao Yi Xian stopped crying immediately, her expression turning serious. She quickly regained her composure, showing her usual calm and decisive nature.
"It's thanks to you two that we found this place," Mu Li sneered, his eyes gleaming with greed as he surveyed the stone chamber.
"You've got guts showing up here," Xiao Yan said with a faint smile, completely unfazed.
"Kid, I know you're strong, but today you're dead!" Mu Li barked, gesturing for his men. "Boys, get the gear!"
His subordinates pulled out strange, black objects, and the sound of metal clinking followed as they prepared their weapons.
Click, click.
The odd noise echoed through the cave, and Xiao Yan's usually calm eyes narrowed sharply.
That sound… It can't be…
For the first time, Xiao Yan looked genuinely surprised.
The weapons Mu Li and his men held were unmistakably firearms small, black tubes attached to handles.
"Guns?! How can there be guns in the Dou Qi Continent?" Xiao Yan's thoughts raced as he stared at the crude but recognizable weapons.
"Shoot him! Don't hurt Xiao Yi Xian!" Mu Li commanded, his tone laced with venom.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Flames erupted from the muzzles, and the deafening gunshots reverberated through the cave. Xiao Yi Xian instinctively covered her ears, her face pale as she watched bullet after bullet rain down on Xiao Yan.
Mu Li and his men fired until their magazines were empty, the acrid smell of gunpowder filling the air.
"Ha! Let's see how you survive this," Mu Li sneered, smoke curling around him.
But as the dust settled, his triumphant grin froze.
Xiao Yan stood there, completely unharmed. Bullets lay scattered around his feet, but not a single mark marred his body.
"Impossible!" Mu Li's face twisted in terror.
These weapons had easily killed a Dou Shi warrior before, and yet they had done absolutely nothing to Xiao Yan.
"What… What are you?!" Mu Li stammered, his voice shaking.
Xiao Yan ignored him, his gaze fixed on the weapons. Guns were powerful, but even multiple shots weren't enough to harm someone with Dou Huang level defenses.
Still, the sight of firearms in this world fascinated him.
Calmly, Xiao Yan walked over to Mu Li, placing a hand on his trembling shoulder.
"Don't… Don't kill me!" Mu Li begged, his entire body shaking.
Xiao Yan leaned in slightly, his voice quiet but clear.
"Hey, buddy... Odd or even?"
