Chapter 155 - Chapter 155: Phoenix? The Dragon God’s Illegitimate Child?

Chapter 155: Phoenix? The Dragon God's Illegitimate Child?

Gu Yue was sulking.

Wait for you to become a god? She doubted he could ever become one to begin with.

She truly couldn't fathom where this man found the confidence to talk about godhood. For a soul beast, the million-year heavenly tribulation was impossible to overcome.

And even if he switched to human cultivation, without the presence of the Divine Realm, any god position he created would be rootless—a false divinity, not a true god.

No matter how she thought about it, Gu Yue couldn't figure out how he planned to ascend. And why drag the Snow Empress along, too?

If they failed, there would only be death!

Of course, Jiang Chen's confidence stemmed from his inheritance of the dragon race's treasures.

Just the corpse of the Ice Dragon King alone could serve as the foundation for an Ice God's divine position.

Not to mention that within the Dragon Graveyard lay not only the Dragon God's Heart and the super divine artifact Dragon God Pillar, but also the remains of other Dragon Kings—an abundance of priceless relics.

Gu Yue wasn't privy to his schemes; she could only glare at him fiercely to voice her dissatisfaction.

Then she turned her attention back to the captured Evil Soul Masters. Under her control, each one revealed everything they knew.

"So there really is a phoenix?"

Jiang Chen was astonished.

Soul masters with phoenix-type martial souls were not uncommon, but a true phoenix soul beast? He had never seen one.

Even Gu Yue was unaware of its existence.

Well then, perhaps Gu Yue didn't actually know more than Di Tian after all.

When they arrived before the Phoenix Imprisoning Array, Jiang Chen frowned slightly.

"The Holy Spirit Cult actually possesses something like this?"

A formation? It didn't seem like anything native to the Douluo Continent.

But then again, since Tang God King had linked together the worlds of the universe, creating something akin to the God Circles, and even Elecs had appeared on Douluo, such things were hardly surprising anymore.

Still, Jiang Chen dared not make a rash move.

He wasn't sure what kind of phoenix it was. Judging from the Cult's ability to restrain it, its strength likely wasn't overwhelming—but a phoenix that had survived through unknown ages surely held unimaginable means.

After all, phoenixes were once equals to the dragon race—divine creatures that had competed for supremacy.

Jiang Chen wasn't about to gamble with his life. Not when he intended to ascend to godhood; dying from a reckless mishap would be laughable.

"Old Yi, what do we do with this?"

When in doubt, ask Elecs!

He hadn't communicated with him in a long time, mostly because he relied on Elecs to help maintain his miniature divine realm.

As someone who had once been just a thought away from godhood, Elecs certainly knew far more than Jiang Chen, a mere outsider.

In the Divine Throne world, becoming a god came with immortality—but also meant merging completely with the heavens and earth, losing one's self.

Still, since Elecs had delved deeply into the use of celestial spiritual energy, his insights were invaluable.

"The Phoenix Imprisoning Array?" Elecs murmured, studying the formation with a thoughtful expression before shaking his head. "There's no phoenix inside."

"Huh? Then were they lying to us?"

Jiang Chen swept his eyes over the Evil Soul Masters—but under Gu Yue's control, they couldn't possibly lie.

Elecs continued scanning the array with his divine sense, visibly intrigued.

Such exquisite design—it might be worth studying.

"Jiang boy," he said suddenly, "what would you think of using a grand formation like this to sustain your small divine realm?"

At once, inspiration struck him. He imagined channeling celestial spiritual energy as if it were flowing water, circulating harmoniously within the realm's ecosystem.

"Whatever you say, Master," Jiang Chen replied without hesitation.

He fully trusted Elecs's judgment. After all, he himself had never seen what a true Divine Realm looked like.

Creating a god position was one thing, but building an entire divine realm? That was another level of difficulty.

What he didn't realize was that Elecs's suggestion was precisely right.

It was no wonder he had once been on the verge of divinity—

even the current Divine Realm was supported by an array of immense power.

Perhaps the birth of their small divine realm wasn't far away.

The mere thought excited him.

As for the phoenix, however...

"So, either they never caught the real phoenix—or it managed to escape," Gu Yue said softly, reaching out one slender hand toward the array.

A faint white ripple shimmered across the air as she pressed her fingertip against it.

She was performing her own kind of probe over the formation.

While Elecs was powerful, he wasn't an actual god—let alone a god king.

When it came to using divine sense, the Silver Dragon King's mastery far surpassed his.

After all, others wielded divine sense; she was born with the Dragon God's own.

Its potency was unmatched.

"There's no sign of life inside, so it should be—"

"Wait!"

Her delicate hand clenched suddenly, then opened again.

In her palm rested a red feather, faintly glowing and burning with a soft flame.

"It really is a phoenix."

Gu Yue was genuinely astonished. The Dragon God had supposedly exterminated the entire phoenix clan—every bloodline that contained their heritage wiped clean from existence.

Yet here was proof that one still lived.

Jiang Chen took the feather in his hand, feeling the faint warmth pulsing within. As he probed it through his own Evil God bloodline, his eyes narrowed.

"Not divine," he muttered.

So, it wasn't a god, though its aura bore traces of extraordinary purity.

Still, where could such a phoenix have come from? The thought stirred his curiosity.

"Gu Yue, did the dragon race ever intermarry with the phoenixes?" he asked.

"Of course," she answered without hesitation.

The dragons, rulers of the world, produced offspring rarely. Naturally, they sometimes mated with other races.

Take, for instance, the Dragon God's descendant—Taotie.

Though not a pure dragon, even Di Tian would respectfully call him uncle.

In Douluo II, it was explicitly stated that when Di Tian saw Xuanzi's martial soul, he instinctively called him "uncle."

Later lore, however, told how the Dragon God perished out of love for his wife.

Their child—the dragon prince—had been conceived through the Dragon Mother's forced pregnancy, draining her life in the process.

The dragon prince's birth ended the internal war between the Nine Dragon Kings.

So where did Taotie come from then?

Ah yes—Taotie supposedly descended from the Earth Dragon King.

"But maybe," Jiang Chen said with a shake of his head, "I've been focusing on the wrong part."

He looked back at her and said, "If the Dragon God annihilated all phoenixes, then this surviving phoenix... could it be the Dragon God's illegitimate child? Surely even he wouldn't kill his own blood. Maybe he hid it away secretly."

"Hey, don't you think that's possible?"

Jiang Chen truly couldn't think of another explanation. Every phoenix had been wiped out, yet one appeared after millions of years—

It didn't make sense otherwise. Surely it hadn't transmigrated from another world?

"Maybe it's your long-lost sibling," he teased, grinning. "Your elder sister or brother, perhaps?"

"Jiang Chen!!!"

Gu Yue's lips trembled as her anger flared. Her ponytail loosened, silver strands fluttering.

Gu Yue—was furious again!

"Go die!"
