Chapter 260: The Unicorneel
Dugu Feng squinted his eyes, quietly observing his surroundings.
By this point, he had become more cautious.
He knew that every few kilometers nearby there were supply points and stationed soul masters of Martial Soul Hall.
He first waited in a concealed place—a narrow cave at the bottom of the rift cliff.
Inside the cave was a small pond about two meters wide, apparently rainwater accumulation.
The Emerald Dragon Snake beneath his feet released its aura; two copper-bell-sized eyes in the pond immediately showed a flattering look, then its entire body quickly shrank into the water.
This was the territory of a Golden-eyed Crocodile.
A soul beast less than a thousand years old.
A millennial soul beast, not yet evolved intelligence like humans. Dugu Feng paid it no mind.
He gazed at the outside sky. Soon, a phantom flashed—the Emerald Dragon Snake sent to scout Death Valley arrived.
"Master, the Unicorneel is about to complete its evolution; it very likely will become a hundred-thousand-year soul beast!"
The Emerald Dragon Snake was excited.
The Unicorneel was a unique soul beast—at least Dugu Feng had never seen one in Sunset Forest or Star Dou Great Forest.
It was a type of mole snake.
Ordinary mole snakes rarely became soul beasts hundreds of years old.
But the Unicorneel was rare and ancient, its entire power focused on its horn.
It had dual life and poison attributes.
Such opposite attributes on one soul beast showed its uniqueness.
"Not evolved yet?" Dugu Feng asked.
"Not yet!"
This made Dugu Feng feel somewhat troubled.
If the Unicorneel had evolved, he could kill it directly, absorb its soul ring, and leave Death Valley.
But without full evolution, if Bibi Dong came, it would be hard to act.
"Master, our evolution of the Emerald Dragon Snakes' bloodline relies on the City of Slaughter's energy.
This Unicorneel is a mutated soul beast with excellent talent. If you use the spirit bead to supply some poison and life energy, it may evolve quickly!"
The Emerald Dragon Snake suggested.
Dugu Feng thought that was the only option.
"Let's go, right away!"
Man and snake set off again.
He left one Emerald Dragon Snake on watch around Death Valley's outskirts.
After some time, Dugu Feng returned to his old habit:
Digging!
Now alone, he no longer needed to hide.
Eight spider legs emitted from his back, cutting a hole in the ground like slicing tofu.
Then two scorpion pincers drilled underground.
Dugu Feng dug deeper and deeper below.
To avoid detection by Martial Soul Hall, he gave his all.
The Emerald Dragon Snake guided him on the surface.
Using the spirit bead's connection, Dugu Feng moved straight toward the Unicorneel.
Another reason was the Unicorneel lived underground; approaching subterranean made capturing it easier.
Above ground.
The Emerald Dragon Snake was small and stealthy, flying swiftly close to the ground.
As it flew, the surroundings grew quieter.
It stopped in a wetland.
This was the Unicorneel's territory!
The snake's eyes rotated as it looked at the sky.
When a black dot flew overhead, a green light wave suddenly rose from the wetland center.
The black dot dropped from the sky and was caught by a long tongue.
The snake was familiar with this.
This was the Unicorneel hunting.
The green light was its innate soul skill, an attack beam from its horn, extremely fast, leaving little reaction time.
This Unicorneel was greedy—even evolving, it didn't miss the chance to catch passing soul beasts.
It wanted to use its greed to swallow the spirit bead.
Soon, the snake seized an opportunity. After another soul beast approached, the Unicorneel struck again.
The snake silently threw the spirit bead.
Though the Unicorneel's long tongue flashed briefly, the snake caught the timing.
The spirit bead, with spatial ability, entered the beast's belly alongside the tongue.
Dugu Feng sensed this underground moment.
The spirit bead had entered the Unicorneel's body.
He felt immense life energy.
"Seems the Unicorneel's stored life energy is sufficient; it only lacks poison energy—just one final push!"
Dugu Feng sensed the jade-green horn on the Unicorneel's head through the spirit bead.
He already knew from the snake that the horn's attack beam was poison energy.
The horn was like its poison sac, containing powerful toxins.
Dugu Feng's mind stirred, and the spirit bead emitted intense poison.
"I'll give you help. Evolve, become a hundred-thousand-year soul beast!"
He eagerly wanted the sixth soul ring.
Meanwhile.
On the official road on Death Valley's outskirts, Douluo Ju and Douluo Gui respectfully faced Martial Soul Hall's direction.
In the distance, a luxurious carriage was approaching.
"Welcome, Your Holiness!"
They knelt on one knee to greet Bibi Dong.
"Rise!"
The carriage stopped, and Bibi Dong alighted.
"Absorb that ninety-thousand-year cave-dwelling demon spider first!"
Bibi Dong directly ordered.
She decided to absorb the fifth soul ring first.
To wait for the beast nearing hundred thousand years to evolve, she delayed absorbing soul rings for nearly a year.
Even her injury recovery was slower than expected.
But this soul beast had yet to evolve.
Bibi Dong's patience wore thin.
She only hoped the beast would evolve by the time she absorbed the sixth soul ring.
Douluo Ju and Douluo Gui felt ashamed and silent.
They could only guide Bibi Dong deeper into Death Valley.
Failing to provide a hundred-thousand-year soul beast, the two felt they had let Bibi Dong down.
They secretly cursed the Unicorneel for not evolving, forcing the dignified pope to absorb a ninety-thousand-year soul beast instead.
The three silently walked inside.
Below the wetland, Dugu Feng, through the watchful snake, spotted Bibi Dong's group.
He sighed, fearing the arrival of what he feared most.
Bibi Dong had just arrived.
The Unicorneel was at the brink of evolution and might evolve anytime.
"Maybe let the spirit bead absorb some of the Unicorneel's energy, delaying evolution until Bibi Dong leaves!"
Dugu Feng thought helplessly.
"Hmm!"
He soon noticed something strange.
Bibi Dong was not headed toward him.
So, he decided to continue waiting.
After a while, he understood Bibi Dong's intention.
She intended to hunt a ninety-thousand-year soul beast.
Apparently, she was impatient to absorb soul rings.
