"I'm curious," I said, my voice quieter than I intended.
Kastiel's fingers were tangled in my hair, running through the strands slowly, lazily. The motion was soothing, rhythmic, and it took effort to focus on my words instead of the way his touch made my eyes want to close.
"About what?" he asked, his voice low and relaxed.
I looked down at my fingers, twisting them together in my lap. The words felt heavy in my throat, harder to push out than I expected.
"When you said you wanted to make me your consort..." I paused, my heart beating a little faster. "Did you actually mean it?"
His hand stilled in my hair. "Yes. Why?"
The question was simple, genuine. Like he couldn't understand why I would even ask.
"But I don't have what it takes to be your consort," I said, the words tumbling out before I could stop them.
"What makes you say that?"
I gestured vaguely at myself, at everything I was and everything I wasn't. "I'm too ordinary. I'm just me."
"And what's wrong with that?"
