This was better. They finally had enough food. They could eat steak sometimes, and chicken, and vegetables that weren't rotting. They had a freezer now, installed in the Alpha King's house, humming away in the corner and keeping their food cold. Austin had converted the extra room in the house into a pantry, lining the walls with shelves, stockpiling enough food to last them through the winter.
They were eating lavishly, Cas thought. Dressing lavishly, too. They could buy thrift clothes in bulk from the humans—bags of shirts and pants and jackets, some of them barely worn, some of them still with tags. Cas got to pick the best of everything because he was the Alpha King's consort. He wore colors that suited him, fabrics that felt soft against his skin. He had more clothes now than he had ever owned in his life.
