When the summit officially started, I left with Amir. I wasn't going to stay seated in one place just because of the summit, and my job there had already ended. I couldn't attend the actual sessions anyway. The only thing I'd been required to do was welcome the delegations, and that was over.
I pushed open the door to Elaine's bakery. The little bell above it rang brightly, the familiar sound hitting me like a hug.
"Holland!" Elaine called happily from behind the counter the moment she saw me. I hadn't been here in months—ever since I started spending almost every night at Kasteil's place, the bakery had slipped out of my routine.
"Hi Elaine," I waved, shifting Amir carefully in my arms so I could show him off.
