"Of course we use the backpack to count them!"
Ethan took off his tail ring and emptied out one of his advanced backpacks, "To keep things fair, besides the backpack, I won't bring any other storage space at all. First we count the number of Ice Galls from Archmage Sylas, announce that number, and then count my master's number. Wouldn't that be fair and impartial?"
"I thought you came up with some amazing method."
The lamp spirit, Sylas, looked at him with disgust, "Idiot! Don't you know that storage spaces can't store living things?"
"If Ice Galls could be directly placed into storage space, would I need you to say it?"
"I could've counted them myself."
"..."
Nostradamus also looked at his disciple with helplessness.
Originally, he had wanted to help his disciple say a few words. But what the boy had just said was practically insulting other people's intelligence. How was he supposed to help now?
If he spoke up too, wouldn't that mean he was just as stupid!
"Lo… Lord… Lord."
Seeing Sylas calling him an idiot again and again, Cook Four felt indignant on the lord's behalf.
But she was also afraid of the pressure of a great archmage, so she could only cautiously tug on Ethan's sleeve and say, "D… do you need… us to help count?"
"Yeah! Lord, we can all help!"
"Lord, even if we're a bit slow, we promise we'll count everything carefully. We definitely won't let anyone talk badly about you!"
"Lord, don't feel bad. Some people just talk like that. Please don't take it to heart."
The townspeople all stepped forward to speak up for Ethan.
Feeling the anger from the crowd, Sylas suddenly felt a little embarrassed, but he still forced himself to lick his lips and said, "I… I didn't say anything wrong, did I? If something can't be done and you still bring it up and talk nonsense, that just wastes time, doesn't it?"
Ethan smiled and shot back, "Just because you can't do it doesn't mean I can't."
"Oh? Something even I, a great archmage, can't do?", Sylas sneered, "And you think you can? I really don't believe it. If you can do it, I'll be your son!"
"Forget it! I don't want a son as old as you."
"I was just saying that casually. Do you really think the sky has cleared, the rain has stopped, and now you're amazing again?", Sylas glanced at Ethan and said, "Fine. If you can do it, whatever you say goes. Happy now?"
"Heh! Remember the promise you just made."
After saying that, Ethan smiled and waved his hand. In his mind, however, he silently gave the command to place all these Ice Galls into the trading channel.
That was Ethan's idea.
Although Ice Galls were living creatures and couldn't be placed directly into a backpack.
He had discovered that the system had an extremely outrageous bug. You could put Ice Galls into the trading channel, and then if you retrieved them through the mail function, they could enter the backpack.
He had discovered this bug while trading with other players.
So… right now he was using the trading channel function. First he would list the Ice Galls, and then cancel the trade so they would be returned to his backpack.
Although this whole series of flashy operations would make the system deduct a handling fee, fortunately the fee was only one percent. Compared to slapping Sylas in the face, that loss was practically nothing.
What looked like a complicated operation was actually completed in a single thought for Ethan.
"H… how is that possible?"
Sylas stared in shock as the mountain-like pile of Ice Galls in front of him suddenly disappeared. He was completely stunned.
Because storage spaces couldn't hold living creatures, that was common knowledge throughout the entire Mist World.
Unless you possessed a dimensional space made from a purple starry sky stone. Only then would it be possible to store living beings inside that space. But in reality, that wasn't an ordinary storage space anymore.
It was basically creating a brand-new world.
No matter what, Sylas refused to believe that Ethan, a mere apprentice mage, could possess something of that level.
'Impossible! Absolutely impossible!'
Even the city lord of the frontier main city only possessed a blue-purple starry sky stone that created a fake otherworldly space.
"Here!"
Ethan tossed the backpack in his hand directly to Sylas and said, "There are thirty-two thousand four hundred fifty-two Ice Galls inside. If you don't believe me, you can count them yourself."
A backpack with one hundred thousand slots, and each slot could hold exactly twenty Ice Galls, meaning twenty per group.
And an advanced backpack could hold exactly one hundred thousand groups. That meant twenty times one hundred thousand equals two million. If a high-level backpack was completely filled, it could hold exactly two million Ice Galls.
Although the advanced backpack couldn't directly display how many items were stored inside, it could show how many slots were occupied.
[Slots used: 1623]
There were 1622 completely full groups.
That meant 1622 × 20 = 32440 Ice Galls.
And then there was one group that wasn't full, which contained 12.
32440 + 12 = 32452.
A simple piece of arithmetic immediately solved the problem of counting a pile of spiky Ice Galls.
"You really put the Ice Galls inside?"
Sylas took the backpack Ethan handed over with disbelief.
After looking inside, he froze in place. Then he deliberately took out one Ice Gall from the backpack and examined it from left to right.
He even broke it open directly to check and make sure the creature inside was alive before finally stopping.
But when he tried to put the Ice Gall back in…
"Huh? Why can't I put it in?"
Sylas tossed the Ice Gall that wouldn't go in to the side. Still unwilling to accept it, he picked up another one and tried again.
But it still didn't work.
"How can it not work?"
"This is impossible. If that kid can do it, how could I, a great archmage, fail to do it?"
"No! Something must be wrong somewhere. I refuse to believe this nonsense!!"
Sylas kept taking Ice Galls out of the advanced backpack and then trying to put them back in. But no matter how many times he tried, the result was the same.
Failure. It simply wouldn't work.
"Heh! Heh!"
Ethan stood to the side and raised his brows proudly.
There was no way Sylas could succeed. After all, Ethan was exploiting a system bug and even had to pay a certain handling fee to produce this backpack full of Ice Galls.
Could Sylas possibly be stronger than the system that controlled the entire Mist World?
Just thinking about it was ridiculous.
"You brat, you must have pulled some trick, right?", Sylas handed the high-level backpack back to Ethan and said, "If you've got the guts, put the Ice Gall I just threw out back inside again and show me! I refuse to believe it!"
"Why should I listen to you?", Ethan shrugged, "And what benefit do I get from doing that?"
"What benefit do you want!"
Sylas roared in anger, "You've already stripped everything off me, what else do you want?"
