Chapter 106 - Hidden Gem

Solar farms appear frequently, I noticed back at the old fuel depot that a short distance up the mountain there was a solar farm there.

Back at the inn and connected to the internet I pulled up Foolgle maps to look around the area for more solar farms.

The solar farm by the old fuel depot had 189 large solar panels.

The local arena had a ton of solar panels covering the entire roof. I'm struggling to see just how many they have but I would estimate that there are at least 500 solar panels.

By the inn I saw quite a few solar farms. A rough count gave me 8 solar farms within a 5 minute walking distance. Not only that I realized that just out of the immediate vicinity of the inn almost all of the private residences had solar panels on their roofs.

This area is really green in its energy gathering.

With my curiosity satiated I relaxed at the inn for the evening.

The next day there weren't any plans. I ate breakfast and got to exploring more of the town.

I visited some shrines, the shrines in the area are almost always located on a small cape inside of the bay. In this area they are numerous. On almost every single outcropping of land exists a shrine that is surrounded in undeveloped woodland.

While I was walking to see the next shrine I noticed that the undeveloped land for this shrine was much bigger. I thought that it must be a bigger shrine, but the path was overgrown with grass and smaller trees.

Why would a large shrine fall into disarray when all of the smaller shrines were still in decent condition?

I trudged through the overgrowth, excited to explore. I pushed my way through low branches and spiderwebs, making my way deeper into the parcel of woodland.

Eventually I saw a structure. It was an old traditional Yamato styled building.

From the front there was a main building with wings coming out of both the left and right side.

I realized immediately that this wasn't a shrine, because there was no Torii Gate or shrine looking building. Every shrine I have seen so far had both.

I wasn't sure about trespassing or breaking and entering laws in Yamato so I avoided entering the building. Plus it was looking a little worse for wear and I wasn't sure of the structural integrity.

I walked around the outside of the building looking into the windows every so often. The building was bigger than I thought it was.

The main building was big, the two wings that came out of both sides. They were just as wide as the main building. However the wings both turned 90 degrees and continued out the back.

In the rear of the building I was able to see what remained of a courtyard. The two wings flanked me on either side parallel to each other pointing through the short thick foliage. Through the foliage I caught a glimpse of what looked like the sea, which wasn't surprising.

Pushing my way through the bushes I saw what lay on the other side. It was a cliff. I was standing on a rounded stone cliff that looked out over the bay. The view was breathtaking.

I stood there for a half an hour just looking at the view.

Once I came back to myself I turned around and got back to looking at the building. It was probably an old inn.

Those wings I mentioned were hallways that led to six rooms on either side. The main building was two stories. I looked through the windows trying to get a good look at the inside, but it was dark so I couldn't make out much.

The trees lording over the old inn along with the plants that have started growing over the building really restricted the light.

This place really needed some work, but it was a gem.

I spent another two hours walking around the property and looking at the scenery.

When I was satisfied I walked out and made my way to a nearby cafe that looked out over the bay.

There I had a nice meal of rice and pork cutlets. Another good meal.

Afterward I continued exploring around the bay area and when it started getting dark I made my way back to the inn.

Monday morning was another early one, I started to wonder when I could start sleeping in again.

Whatever, let's just get the show on the road again.

The day progressed much like it did on Friday. We took a car to the town hall of the next town over. There we went through the same song and dance as before. With Kitsumi Kiyo making more enemies than friends with cruel efficiency.

It was efficient. I'll give her that. She was on the phone with inspectors as we were leaving the town hall.

Once she was off the phone I told her my thoughts on how the old fuel depot should be retrofitted and renovated.

She was going to be the main intermediary facilitating everything. I was just here to sign whatever documents she gave me, assuming that they were something I was ok with signing.

I'm not stupid enough to just sign whatever is dropped in front of me.

I have been thinking about building a law AI, some already exist, and they are actually pretty good. Or so I have heard. Whether they are up to my standard is another matter altogether.

But, I will have to put that off until I can set myself up a little better. The internet in the inn isn't exactly the best. Nor is it secure.

Though I don't plan on staying here for that long.

That was until I heard from Kitsumi Kiyo, "So, things have become a bit problematic."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, the inspectors are friends with the men from town hall. So, they are delaying things as much as they can and will probably be super strict about the rules. We will probably be here longer than initially planned."
