Chapter 71 - RAM and Layla

Now for the material cost.

Silicon costs $3.50 per ounce. The silicon printer can deposit anywhere from 7 to 20 pounds per hour. However, with upgrades that will be faster.

There are 16 ounces in a pound. So at 20 pounds an hour that is $1,120 an hour with every chip weighing only a tenth of a gram.

With waste material and lithography shaving away something that makes the 283 chips that could be made out of an ounce. Make only about half that.

So, one ounce makes about 140 silicon chips, each RAM stick has 8 or 16 chips. I will be making RAM sticks with 16. I will be aiming for a higher end RAM stick with 32GB or 64GB per stick.

That is 8.75 RAM sticks per hour for one production line. Which is 210 in a day.

Currently a 32GB RAM stick costs around $150.

Which is $31,500 per day and $11,497,500 per year.

The overall material price to make one RAM stick is about $20. That is per stick, with the epoxy, other chemicals, and the silicon chip.

So the overhead material cost in a year is about $1,533,000. There will be fluctuations based on the market.

This is all on the calculation of one production line when I plan to have two. So, double it for actual base non-upgraded cost and profits.

Another cost will be the utilities. I plan on getting a large solar panel array, I know the start up will be energy heavy. But a few upgrades should have everything up and running fine.

I will need more space than the warehouse roof, which means I need to get a plot of land. In the country, that should be pretty cheap.

The commercial grade 450W solar panel array with 31 panels, $4,603.50.

I will get 2 orders of those for $9,207.

The land should cost at most $30,000.

Another utility is water but I will have to be based in a seaside town to get proper cooling for the machines.

So, water should also be super cheap. The water bill includes the sewage cost. Which should be around $1,000.

The hook up cost should be $10,000.

Which brings my money down to $4,570,710.44.

That is without counting any material cost because the upgrades will throw that number out almost immediately.

A month of materials is $127,750. Which is what I will start with I guess.

$4,442,960.44.

The actual factory building cost $250,000 to $1,000,000.

The actual amount will vary depending on the size and location. However, it does seem to be cheaper than The Federation.

The warehouses I built here cost basically $500,000 to build the 10 little buildings. The factory I will build there will be much bigger than all of the little warehouses combined.

While I was doing my calculations Layla was making progress on her car part designs.

We both were apparently in our flow states because when I came back to reality it was noticeably later in the day and Layla was still hard at work.

She was making tweaks and changes while running her tests. She was running straight into the future.

Layla had already made some parts with better efficiency. They were only marginally more efficient based on simulated data, but that in and of itself is a major accomplishment.

It still needs to be tested in real life, but the simulated data shouldn't be too far off.

While Layla kept on working oblivious to the world I ordered food. Which was braised pork and fried noodles with vegetables mixed in of course.

When I handed Layla her food she didn't even acknowledge me and kept on working, all the way until night time.

Night fell and Layla ran out of energy. We got into the car and drove home.

While driving back we stopped for gas but that only took a minute.

Once we arrived back at home Layla seemed to realize something. She said, "Wait a minute. What am I doing back here?"

"What do you mean? You don't want to go back to your parent's house right?"

"Yeah. I guess. But, I could stay somewhere else."

"Where would that be on short notice? Samantha's? And you would make me drive you there or back to the warehouse?"

"Ugh. Fine, but where am I supposed to sleep?"

"In my bed?"

"With you?"

"Well, I could also sleep on the couch. It's not a big deal."

"Sigh. I'm too tired to argue. Fine, let's just sleep in the same bed."

We went inside and got some food to eat.

Afterward we each took a shower and got ready to go to sleep.

I brushed my teeth while feeling a bit restless. I had sleep overs before with other girls but I was still a kid then. Plus this comes with its own new connotation.

Once we were ready for bed we got under the blankets. I keep my room frigid enough so that instead of sheets I use fuzzy blankets.

So we wrapped ourselves in soft blankets to ward off the cold, however the warmth of another person is very alluring in a cold environment.

Drawing the other person near, the rustle of the comforter, and the occasional foreign touch sending shivers of anticipation all over.

The warmth of a person's skin is dangerously hot when you least expect them. Driving you to do something, possibly anything to feel it again.

Even if you know you shouldn't, one more brush, one more "accidental" stroke.

A breath that held a little too long, or a breath a little too warm.

Despite the rising tensions and mood heavy with a certain smell, boundaries held firm.

Nothing was going to happen until Layla proved to herself that she deserved that affection.

So we slept and woke up with pent up emotions not having been released.

Time to start the day, far earlier than either of us would have liked, 4:00.
