Chapter 82: Calm Before
A week had passed that Luminous did not waste. She took Varion all over Lune determined to show him all her favorite places, as well as the city it's self
In public she never walked out as herself. The goddess of Luminism did not stroll the capital openly. She used a more noble looking version of her Lumni disguise instead: silver hair pinned up, fine jewelry, clothes expensive enough that people assumed she was some high ranking noble. She still walked like she owned the street, and people noticed passively moving out of their way. Varion noticed the change most of all, because the second they sat down she expected the best wine, the best table, and most importantly his full attention.
Something he was happy to give.
She picked where they went, what they ate, not even asking what he wanted most of the time. She just picked her favorite dishes and watched him expectantly to see his reactions. At night she took him through the more artistic parts of the city, there was music, old intricate stonework, and a massive art hall with murals that covered entire walls. She liked pointing things out about old architecture that was made back when the city was first built. She took him to her favorite concert hall and talked about the current singers she liked
Varion let her talk. Every now and then commenting or he would pull her in by the waist into his side. He would kiss her whenever they had a private moment, just enough to make her smirk against his mouth. Then they would continue on like nothing happened but she would always stick close to him brushing against him or holding his arm through the rest of the night.
Their nights in private were not quiet either, Luminous was insatiable and unrepentant about it.
She was always extremely handsy in private. If they made it back to her rooms with their clothes still on, it was only because she wanted to take them off herself. She kissed him like she had been holding herself back all day to do it. She pushed him down onto couches, against walls, into bed, and made it very clear what she wanted and when she wanted it.
Varion did not mind one bit, he loved the way she made moves on him first, the way she took initiative. He liked that she never asked permission to touch him, or look at him, or anything else, only took what she wanted and was pleased when he gave it back with equal fervor. It was a new experience for him as his other lovers weren't near as forward, that he looked forward to.
By the end of the week, they fell into a pattern of going out towards dusk, going to eat and explore Lun then return back to her room. Which everytime lead to them having sex without fail.
Tonight was different they had not gone out, instead they stayed in relaxing and being lazy.
Luminous was straddling his lap pushing her face into his neck, treating him like he was her own personal throne. One of his arms sat around her waist. The other rested on her thigh, rubbing circles on the inside of it idly. While she was relaxing her hand was in the back of his hair running through it in a steady rhythm. Every so often she would lean in a little closer, placing a long kiss on the side of his neck, slowly sucking slightly trying to put a mark on him, then settle her head back on his chest and go back to relaxing.
Luminous shifted, kissed his neck again, and lingered there this time. He felt her fangs gently nip at the side of his neck, asking him if he was fine with it rather than just biting him. It was her way of showing that even with their relationship at this stage, she didn't just want to take something from him without asking.
"Go ahead, have as much as you want" he said warmly into her ear, bringing his hand up to run through her hair
She blushed lightly then bit down carefully. A small sip,then another, and more until she was satisfied. Her body eased against him as soon as his blood hit her tongue, and a quiet sound left her throat before she pulled back licking the spot and kissed it like she was smoothing it over.
"You're getting used to that too quickly," she murmured.
"Oh hush you know you like it." he smirked at her
"I do." She sounded proud of the fact. "So you will continue to allow it."
Varion huffed a short laugh then dropped his hands to her butt giving it a squeeze. "Wasn't planning on stopping you dear."
That earned him a deep kiss on the lips that lasted much longer than necessary. Her hand slid up his chest and stayed there. For a while neither of them talked, as the room settled into a warm cozy mood.
It made him think of rimuri, not that he would ever tell luminous that. She would be very upset if he was thinking of another woman while cuddling with her.
The soul corridor had been quiet all week.
Not gone. Just muted, like Rimuri had pulled a curtain across it. So she must have been up to something she didn't want him to know about. Varion could have opened the connection but didn't bother, not wanting to ruin what she was up to.
'It was probably some kind of surprise for me, she's too good to me, I'll have to get her something.' He thought warmly
Then almost as if summoned by his thinking of it the corridor flared back open. It was not a gentle return, it snapped on like someone turning on a flash light.
He instantly felt the panic and worry flooding from her.
Rimuri came through it almost instantly sounding panicked and urgent.
'[Varion, Tempest is under attack!!!]'
His whole body went tensed and his lazy mood shattered instantly.
'[I just got out of a fight with one of Shizue's old students, Hinata. But right before that souei told me what was happening then some kind of barrier went up muting our connection. All I know is the Church of luminism is involved and few other countries too. I- i- ,just get there now! I'm on my way there now.]'
'[ ok, on my way just hold on and please stay safe, I love you]' he sent back all within the span of a heart beat.
Varion shook the shock off and shot to his feet with Luminous still in his arms. She made a small offended sound, already drawing in a breath to complain, then saw his face and stopped.
Shock. Panic. Fear. And above all anger.
"Tempest is under attack," he said, already setting her on her feet. " The Church is part of it and someone named Hinata. Some other countries are involved as well, that's all I know right now."
He pulled her in, hugged her tightly, and kissed her forehead.
"Please stay here. Stay where you're safe." His voice dropped, tight with worry. "I wouldn't know what to do if something happened to you while I deal with this. I'm sorry I have to go."
He turned before she could answer. A portal tore open in the middle of the room. Varion ran through it and was gone.
The room went still.
Luminous stood there with one hand half-raised, staring at the space where he had been. Heat crawled up her neck, the way He had looked at her like that, that he worried for her, kissed her like he was afraid of losing her. Her hand unconsciously moved to her forehead as a bright blush covered her face.
Then she froze processing the rest of what he said.
The Church, Hinata.
Her Church.
Her Hinata.
Someone from her own faction had put hands on her man and his people.
The stunned love struck look vanished. What replaced it was not the calm goddess of Luminism. It was a pissed off demon lord who was out for blood. Power rolled off her in a visible, oppressive wave that made the air in the room feel heavier.
"Gunther. Roy. Louis.!!!" she yelled
They appeared instantly. Gunther took one look at her face and bowed lower than usual. Roy and Louis, doing the same.
She looked directly at Roy and Louis.
"Bring me the Seven Luminaries," she said, voice sharp enough to cut while gritting her teeth. "Alive. Get the Church back under control. If they refuse, kill them. I do not care what you have to do GET. IT. DONE."
The 2 departed immediately to do as commanded.
Her heterochromatic eyes moved to Gunther.
"And you. Bring Hinata here. Unharmed."
Gunther's head lifted a fraction.
"Now."
"Yes my lady, as you wish."
