Chapter 98: Conflicts and Curiosity
Rimuri looked where Clayman had been and let out a short scoff. 'Good riddance. You shouldn't have messed with Varion and Prinz. Or my people.' She thought.
She turned toward where Varion was seated, a small smile already forming as she expected to see him watching her with the same quiet satisfaction she felt. Instead what she saw was the way he sat completely tense with his arms wrapped tightly around Prinz. Her smile faded as narrowed her eyes and spoke to him gently across the soul corridor.
['Varion, what's wrong? Are you okay? What happened?']
['Calm down Rimuri, I'm fine. I'm… just really tired. I just wanna go home.'] he replied to her with even his mental voice sounding tired.
Rimuri's mouth tightened. She could feel he wasn't telling the whole truth, even if he was trying to hide it. But she decided not to push for now, as this wasn't the time or place. 'Okay dear, How about when we get home we can all just go lay down and cuddle taking a nice long nap together. Does that sound good?'
['That sounds heavenly right now.'] he said tiredly then there was a short pause, as he had an idea and smirked at her. ['But one small change.']
Rimuri raised an eyebrow as she started walking back toward her seat. ['What kind of change?']
['I'm gonna bury my face in your boobs. I haven't gotten to play with the new ones yet and they look really nice, I can't wait.']
He said with a teasing tone.
It was clear he was trying to shift the mood, but even so Rimuri's face went bright red as she reached her chair. ['Varionnnn!! You can't just say things like that. We're in a meeting. What if someone intercepts our communications? It'd be so embarrassing!!!']
Even though she was complaining he could feel a small spike of heat that ran through her at the thought. He settled deeper into his seat, as the earlier tension loosened slightly. He watched her with a faint satisfied smile on his face as she tried to compose herself.
Once Rimuri took her seat again. The rest of the meeting wrapped up quickly. Clayman's territory would go to Milim. While Frey and Carrion both decided they were stepping down as Demon Lords and would become her subordinates, placing their territories under her as well. Milim didn't look particularly interested, she gave a small shrug.
Guy nodded once. "Now that that is settled, we have a few more things to take care of, but first."
Without warning he released a focused burst of his haki aimed directly at Varion. It was strong enough that had it not been so focused it would have killed Frey and Carrion instantly "We need to test the last new Demon Lord properly."
But before it could even reach anywhere near Varion, Milim cracked open a single eye and glared across the table at Guy. The attack was snuffed out , then completely crushed under her own aura.
She glared at Guy, not looking away for even a second. "I'm not in the mood to play anymore, Guy. Stop it or I'm going to get really angry. Besides, you know Varion is more than strong enough, so stop messing around."
Guy rubbed the back of his head and let out a short laugh. "Yeah, I just wanted to test him a bit for fun. But fine. I'll leave him alone."
He straightened and looked around the table. "Since we're already here, we might as well rename our group. We aren't exactly the ten great demonlords anymore." the others nodded in agreement as they might as well get it over with. Guy's eyes settled on Rimuri. " I'll allow our new commer Rimuri the magnificent privilege."
"No, no, no, no, I couldn't, I'm new here. It wouldn't be right to take such an honor from you Guy." She said quickly trying to push the chore back on him.
Guy smiled lightly with a closed eye smile, then lightly chops the table. It immediately split cleanly in half and he started to walk towards her between the cleanly split half. He arrived right in front of rimuri and leaned in to say something, but before he can even get into her personal space Varion's haki erupts and is fully directed at Guy. He pauses and looks to the side at Varion.
"What do you think you were about to do, Guy Crimson?" Varion said calmly, but he was anything but calm right now. His eyes were turned into slits that were glowing red and two horns were starting to appear on his head.
Guy grinned at him excitedly, 'good this is what I wanted, this should let me test him properly' he thinks to himself.
"I was about to threaten her, why is that a problem?" he says curiously.
Before Varion can respond another haki explodes at his side, easily far stronger than Varion's own. Milim stands up and stomps towards Guy with a pissed off look on her face.
"Guy!!! I told you if you kept on trying to test my little brother, I would get angry. Are you trying to get your ass kicked? Because I can really use something to blow off steam right now." She growls out grinding her teeth.
The room grows tense with a guy still grinning and looking down at Milim who is glaring up at him. While all the others present are tense ready to move at a moment's notice. As Varion places his hands on the chair about to stand, the tension is abruptly cut off by Rimuri.
"Nonagram!!! What do you think about the name Nonagram? It's pretty good right?" she says desperately trying to shift their attention away from fighting.
Guy sighs then backs off, he looks like he's in thought about it for a few seconds tilting his head side to side then gives a nod. "I like it! ."
The others densely voice their agreement around the table. Guy looks around then speaks.
"From this point forward, we are the Nine Star Demon Lords. Nonagram." he says confidently and walks away back to his chair completely ignoring Milim. Who looks unhappy and wants to continue before she is interrupted.
"Milim let it go." She turns to look at him and he is back to normal now. "Come on back, there's no need to fight, I'm tired and just want this to be done." He says, she sighs in frustration then walks over.
Everyone who is seated stands up and Rain steps forward and starts the reintroductions with none of their titles differing from normal. Then she finally reached the two newest additions.
"Slime, The newbie, Rimuri Tempest."
"Dragonoid, The Retribution, Varion Nava."
Guy looked around the table deciding they were done, "With that done let's call this meeting to a close and start the feast."
"I shall be departing." Leon said and gave a short nod to the room, then left without waiting for a response.
"I'm doing the same, I'm too tired and need a nap." Varion said. "I'll see you all later." He turned toward the door they had entered through. Rimuri's hand found his as she stepped up beside him, and the others moved to follow.
Prinz paused for a second then glanced at Luminous, and gave a small jerk of her head toward Varion's free side. Luminous blinked in surprise at the offer, but appreciated it. She turned to Roy.
"Go inform Gunther and Hinata I will be staying in Tempest for a few days." Her eyes flicked toward Varion, clearly still worried over what she had seen happening to him. "I have something important I have to take care of."
Roy bowed. "As you wish, my lady. I hope you enjoy yourself." He turned and left.
Luminous walked over to where Varion was waiting and slipped her arm through his free one. She leaned her head against his arm and squeezed it into her chest. He glanced down at her. "You ready to go?"
"Yes," she said. "I have informed them I shall be staying in Tempest for the next few days so they can handle themselves."
They started walking to the gate when Varion noticed Dino approaching from the side. He walked like he had a purpose he needed to achieve, his shoulders were set and his expression was set in a way that did not match his usual laziness. Before anyone could over react and get worried, Milim, walking beside Rimuri, curiously spoke up.
"What are you doing? Shouldn't you have left to go take a nap by now or something?"
"No," Dino said. "I have something important to do, Milim." His eyes moved to Varion. "Can we have a moment to talk privately? I don't care where. I just need to speak with you."
Varion looked at him for a second, then let out a short sigh. "Sure. Follow us." 'If Milim is on good terms with him, he won't do anything stupid, right?' He kept walking, as Dino followed them.
