Rhine Lab.
11:13 AM
Weather: Heavy rain.
Structure Department, Laboratory.
"Hmm—wah?"
The sound of rain hitting the window echoed in Madam Director's ears. Madam Director, who had just been full of confidence, fell into a momentary daze.
She felt that in that instant, her Soul had ascended, risen from the ground, and flown into the Universe.
That illusion of shedding humanity's fragile shell and transforming into another superior and powerful life form was irresistible.
But very quickly, the Director broke free from this false illusion and regained her senses.
The Director had no desire to achieve Ascension; her Caprini identity was already satisfying enough. Although she had lost the horns she once prided herself on, Kaltsit's teachings were etched in the Director's heart; she never wanted to become non-human.
"Parvis recovered faster than you, Madam Director—perhaps because he went completely mad, and you weren't mad enough."
Looking up, the Director saw Goki's expression beneath his hunter's hat, a mix of excitement, anticipation, and even a hint of savagery.
The Director looked up and noticed that the air around them was gradually beginning to glow with the brilliance of a starry sky.
And some blue, translucent, jelly-like entities were slowly emerging from the air.
They were humanoid creatures somewhat similar to humans, entirely blue, only half the size of a person, with long arms and legs, but their heads were grotesquely enormous tumors, and their fingers were long, twisted claws.
Beside them, many faintly glowing blue, almost ethereal Mind-suckers, as well as some moving giant worms, also appeared.
"Hiss————"
They opened their mouths, letting out a silent threat towards Goki, and their bodies gradually solidified.
The first big-headed doll materialized and charged straight at Goki—
Thud—
Then, its head was smashed directly onto the ground by a heavy stone hammer.
This thing was not particularly strong.
"What is th—how is this possible?"
The Director's eyes widened. Even though she had traveled across Terra and seen all sorts of strange beings, her body instinctively felt a slight discomfort due to the uncanny valley effect.
"I've only seen these things in the Kazimierz ruins. They disappeared quickly after being killed. How could they appear here…"
From the ancient ruins of Kazimierz, the Director had only brought back a number of blood and biological tissue samples. Those Mind-suckers had also been subdued by the Director alone, at the cost of almost being sucked into imbecility, and were strictly held to ensure they posed no threat to other employees.
