Chapter 339 - Chapter 339 - The Harmony of Frequencies

Grace's eyes burned with stubborn determination as she stepped closer to Elijah, her movements deliberate and forceful. She planted herself in front of him, her hands on her hips, her gaze unwavering.

"I asked you a question," she said, her voice carrying a note of impatient demand. "Do you feel the same way?"

Elijah's internal thoughts were a whirlwind of conflict. His mind reached out to Wonko through the mindlink, his mental voice carrying a note of exasperated amusement.

Seriously, he thought. I didn't know today it's girls doing the chasing instead of the guys. Where is the world heading to? She's confessing to liking my personality, but it's weird because I'm still portraying myself as Leo.

Wonko's mental voice carried a note of dry impatience. Stop your pretense and just go on with it. Don't tell me you're ready to break this girl's heart. Play the part. Once we're out of Jerkin base completely, send that Leo brat back to his life. Then we can go on with our lives. I'm rather bored with this weird game of playing dress-up cosplay you like doing, boy.

Elijah's mental voice carried a note of mock offense. Sheesh. You could be more nice to me. Why are you always the angry type?

Wonko's response was flat. I'm not angry. I'm practical. There's a difference.

---

To Grace, Elijah appeared to be battling inner thoughts—his gaze distant, his brow furrowed, his lips moving slightly as if in silent conversation. His expression shifted between conflict and amusement, his body language one of distracted contemplation.

Grace's expression shifted to one of quiet disappointment. Her shoulders slumped slightly, her hands falling to her sides. She began to turn away, her movements slow and defeated.

Elijah's hand shot out, grabbing her shoulder. His grip was firm but gentle, his expression shifting to one of dramatic sincerity.

"Wait," he said, his voice carrying a note of genuine warmth. "It's not that I don't feel the same way. It's not that I fear you. It's that I'm afraid I won't match your standards."

Grace's brow furrowed. "Why would you say that?"

Elijah's hands moved in a series of expressive gestures, his body language shifting to one of exaggerated humility. He mimicked the movements of someone trying to describe something beyond their comprehension—his hands tracing invisible shapes in the air, his expression one of theatrical uncertainty.

"Back at the tournament," he said, his voice carrying a note of genuine admiration. "The way you fought. It was like—" his hands described a series of flowing motions, "—there was this energy around you. Composed. Controlled. Like you had some kind of advanced understanding of the tech that I couldn't even begin to comprehend."

Grace's lips twitched. "You mean—"

"I mean," Elijah interrupted, his voice carrying a note of self-deprecating humor, "I felt like I was watching someone who's in a completely different league. How am I supposed to match up to that?"

Grace's giggle was unexpected. It bubbled out of her like a spring breaking through stone, her expression shifting from hurt to amused delight.

"You're such an idiot," she said, her voice carrying a note of affectionate exasperation.

Before Elijah could respond, Grace closed the distance between them. Her hand reached up, her fingers brushing against his cheek. She leaned in, her lips pressing against his.

Elijah's eyes widened. His body tensed, caught completely off guard. For a moment, he didn't know what to do. His hands hovered awkwardly at his sides, his expression one of stunned disbelief.

---

In the background, a small group passed by—Corvina, Cressida, and Calista, walking alongside Cassia Ulfric and Evan Torrent. Evan's expression was one of respectful admiration, his gaze fixed on Cassia's profile. Cassia's expression remained neutral, her eyes fixed ahead.

Calista was the first to notice the kiss. Her face contorted with outrage, her voice carrying a note of venomous contempt.

"Look at that!" she exclaimed, pointing at Elijah and Grace. "That pervert! He's just a pervert who knocks on girls!"

Cressida's voice carried a note of disgust. "What's more disgusting is that he tried to do that to you earlier. Should we go and give him a piece of our minds?"

Calista's gaze lingered on Grace, her internal thoughts a mixture of jealousy and confusion. Why is she getting that? she thought, her internal voice carrying a note of bitter resentment. Why does he get to have that?

Evan's attention was drawn to the kiss. His eyebrows shot up, his expression one of genuine surprise.

"Leo?" he said, his voice carrying a note of disbelief. "Well, well. That's impressive." He glanced at Cassia, his expression shifting to one of subtle admiration. "Maybe I should visit him sometime for tips."

Cassia's expression remained neutral. She didn't respond, her gaze fixed ahead.

They continued walking, disappearing around a corner.

---

The kiss continued.

Elijah's mind was a whirlwind of confusion. But beneath the surface, something else was happening. A subtle frequency began to pulse between them, a harmony of energies that seemed to resonate with the very air around them. Faint waves of light radiated from Elijah, intertwining with the energy emanating from Grace.

Grace felt it too. A warmth spread through her chest, a sensation of connection that seemed to bypass all conscious thought. Her aethernova suit began to glow, its lines pulsing with a soft, inner light. The energy around her seemed to intensify, waves of power radiating from her in controlled arcs.

She pulled back, her eyes wide with confusion. She looked down at herself, her hands tracing the glowing lines of her suit.

"What was that?" she asked, her voice carrying a note of genuine bewilderment. "I felt... something. Like a connection."

Elijah's expression was one of speechless wonder. His eyes were fixed on her, his mouth slightly open.

"That was—" he started, then stopped. "All of that—"

Grace's expression shifted to one of sudden panic. Her eyes widened, her hands flying to her face.

"Oh no," she said, her voice carrying a note of fear. "You're creeped out, aren't you? You think I'm some kind of freak."

Tears welled in her eyes, her body trembling slightly.

Elijah shook his head, his expression shifting to one of calm reassurance. He pointed at her, his gesture firm and commanding.

"What is all of this, really?" he asked, his voice carrying a note of gentle curiosity. "If you really like me, you should be open with me. No secrets. No hiding."

Probably can find out if she went through the Epsilon program like me, he thought, his internal voice carrying a note of calculating intent. His expression remained warm, but his eyes held a flicker of something sharper beneath the surface.

Grace sighed, her shoulders slumping in resignation. She met his gaze, her expression one of reluctant confession.

"You're right," she said, her voice quiet. "There's something I haven't told you. Something I should have told you a long time ago."

---

The evening air was still, the weight of her words hanging between them like a veil waiting to be lifted.

Grace's eyes met Elijah's, her expression one of vulnerable trust.

"I'm ready to tell you," she said. "Everything."

The moment stretched, infinite and heavy.

And Elijah knew that nothing would ever be the same again.
