Chapter 333 - Chapter 333- The Mirage of the Moon

The arena held its breath as Michael Snovidenie and Ransom Vale faced each other once more. The air between them crackled with unresolved tension, the weight of their previous exchange still hanging heavy.

Michael's lips curved into a cold smile. "I never thought that a shitty place like Fenwick could house guys of your league," he said, his voice carrying a note of genuine interest. "How interesting. You've actually made this worthwhile."

Ransom's golden-sand energy pulsed around him, warm and steady. "You flatter me."

"It's not flattery. It's recognition." Michael's spectral energy began to shift, the silver-violet coils around him growing denser. "You've proven yourself qualified for me to start taking this seriously."

Ransom's eyes narrowed. "Then show me what you've got."

---

Michael raised his hand, palm open. The air before him rippled like water disturbed by a stone. A shimmering projection spread outward, distorting the space around him. Multiple images of Michael flickered into existence, each one as real as the next.

"Mirage Palm," Michael said, his voice echoing from multiple directions.

The illusions moved in perfect synchronization, their attacks coming from everywhere at once. Ransom was forced onto the defensive, his golden-sand energy flaring as he tried to track the real Michael among the duplicates.

The crowd watched with bated breath, their earlier heckling fading into awed silence. The energy of the fight was mesmerizing, the illusions creating a spectacle that was both beautiful and terrifying.

"He's like a moon," one spectator murmured, his voice carrying a note of wonder. "Shifting, changing, never quite the same."

"More like a joker," another added. "You never know what he's going to do next."

---

Ransom responded with his Return Step, the golden-sand energy around him flaring as he absorbed the recoil of Michael's strikes. But Michael's attacks were relentless, each one more precise than the last.

"I'm impressed," Ransom said, his voice carrying a note of genuine respect. "Those of Aru'el are usually hard to come by. Meeting one of them is an honor."

Michael's smile widened. "And your Kronari are seen as brute ancients. But the feeling is mutual."

Their strikes met in a clash of energy, the impact sending shockwaves through the arena. The ground beneath them cracked, dust rising in spiraling clouds.

Ransom landed a blow on Michael's shoulder. Michael responded with a strike to Ransom's ribs. They traded blows back and forth, each one more devastating than the last.

The crowd's energy shifted. At first, they cheered for Ransom, their voices rising in support of the underdog. "Give that Northern wacko what he deserves!" one shouted.

But as the battle continued, Michael gained momentum. His attacks grew faster, more precise. The illusions became more convincing, more disorienting.

Slowly, the crowd's allegiance shifted. They began to cheer for Michael, their voices rising in appreciation of his skill.

"That's incredible!" one exclaimed. "I've never seen anything like it!"

"Go, Michael! Show him what you've got!"

---

In the VIP section, Kael watched with a cold, dismissive expression. "I'm disappointed," he said, his voice carrying a note of contempt. "I've always been told how powerful Frostlanders are. But this display is not impressive. Just... adequate."

Brenda shot him a sharp look. "You should really start working on your patience in concluding things," she said, her voice sharp. She leaned forward, her eyes fixed on the arena. "Because you're in for a rude awakening."

Kael's expression didn't change. "We'll see."

---

Elijah's perception shifted. His vision became a tapestry of heat and energy, the frequency spectrum of the arena visible in brilliant detail. He saw Michael's spectral energy—its cold, elusive quality—and felt a jolt of recognition.

That aura, he thought, his internal voice carrying a note of unease. It eerily reminds me of Azaqor. The way it radiates, the way it feels... like a humongous glowing moon casting shadows everywhere. But Michael's is smaller, like a firefly in comparison.

His mind raced with implications.

Azaqor claimed I acquired some of his own power from his Azren path when I unconsciously acquired the Astraseal. The Kokoro I suspect is from the Azren path itself. And those of the north are of the Aru'el clan of the dream Shinkai. That means their path aligns with that of Azren.

He paused, his brow furrowing in confusion.

But it doesn't make sense. Azaqor isn't of those seven gods of the mandate. How is he connected to all of this?

His expression shifted to one of puzzled contemplation.

What am I missing?

---

The fight continued.

Ransom's voice carried over the clash of energy. "That way you think—it's like following the flow of change," he said, his voice carrying a note of admiration. "First, you tested my strength by receiving damage. Then you got a clue about it. Then you came up with a counter. Such a level of thinking aligns with your Shinkai of cause and effect."

Michael's smile widened. "What can I say? I'm that great."

Their strikes met again, the impact sending shockwaves through the arena.

And then Michael cheated.

His hand swept low, scooping up a handful of dust and sand from the cracked arena floor. He flung it into Ransom's eyes, the particles blinding him for a crucial moment.

Ransom staggered, his defenses dropping.

Michael's final strike caught him in the chest, sending him crashing to the ground.

"AND THE WINNER IS MICHAEL SNOVIDENIE!" Kazimir announced, his digital form appearing with a burst of pyrrhia sparks.

---

The crowd's reaction was immediate and mixed.

"He cheated!" one spectator shouted, his voice carrying a note of outrage. "That's not allowed!"

"Come on, is that even allowed?" another added.

"What do you expect?" a third chimed in. "He's from the north. They play by different rules."

---

In the VIP section, Kael glanced at Brenda with a knowing look—a 'why call the kettle black' expression that carried the weight of unspoken understanding.

Brenda met his gaze evenly. "In war, what matters is the result. How it was done isn't important. The outcome is everything."

Kael shook his head slowly. "It doesn't matter," he said, his voice carrying a note of cold certainty. "In the end, that Snovidenie brat is great. But still short of her."

His gaze shifted toward Cassia Ulfric's direction, his expression one of unwavering confidence.

---

Caspian Jerkins stood near Elijah, his expression one of barely concealed panic. His eyes were fixed on Michael, his hands trembling slightly.

"It seems this tournament is really beyond the normal," he said, his voice carrying a note of genuine unease. "What have we gotten ourselves into?"

Grace Barlow appeared beside him, her expression one of dry amusement. "What's wrong? Want to chicken out?"

Caspian's face flushed. "I'm not chickening out! I'm just—expressing concern. There's a difference."

Grace's smile widened. "Sure there is."

---

Michael walked toward the competitors' exit, his posture relaxed, his composure intact. As he passed Elijah's position, he paused.

His gaze met Elijah's.

And then he smiled—a cheeky, knowing thing that carried no warmth.

Elijah's expression remained neutral, but his mind was racing.

What are you really doing here? he thought, his internal voice carrying a note of dark curiosity. And why do I feel like I'm part of something I don't fully understand?

Michael turned and disappeared into the shadows.

The game was far from over.
