"That's right." The middle-aged woman turned to the side and made an inviting gesture, the silk scarf at her neck wafting a faint, elegant perfume. "Director Bishop is waiting for you in the study in the backyard."
Serena Stanton nodded, following her onto the covered walkway that led to the rear garden.
Outside the corridor, a few old plum trees planted by children from the orphanage cast dappled, slanted shadows. Their buds were just beginning to bloom, and an elusive fragrance floated in the air.
Serena caught a glimpse of the plum trees from the corner of her eye. As she retracted her gaze, she happened to hear her phone vibrating. She took out her phone from her bag to check.
It was a message from Adrian.
Adrian: "Where are you?"
Serena sent him her location directly.
Adrian: "Do you have any plans after this?"
Serena: "No."
Adrian: "I'll come pick you up now."
Serena's lips curved unconsciously: "Okay."
