Shaking off his curiosity and refocusing, Kazuki and Artoria plunged into the monster swarm.
"Guyveeeeer!!"
Kazuki encased himself in his Guyver armor and sent the onrushing monsters flying with a brutal burst of force. Without missing a beat, he activated his gravity control and swatted a diving Hraesvelgr out of the sky with a Pressure Cannon blast.
'Fuck there are too many.'
A Mega-Smasher from his chest cannon would've been a quick and easy cleanup, but in a chaotic melee like this, he'd risk catching his allies in the blast. He had no choice but to take them down one fucking beast at a time.
"Now then, how's everyone else doing…?"
Kazuki kept his eyes sweeping across the battlefield as he picked off approaching Fafnirs with successive Pressure Cannon shots.
Rossweisse had turned herself into a stationary turret, blasting one monster after another out of the sky with pinpoint magic. Normally, planting your feet and casting spells in a shitstorm like this would be suicidal, but the reason she could pull it off was planted right beside her.
"Hup, there!"
The unbreakable shield catching every charge head-on without so much as a flinch—Helmwige.
She absorbed the full impact of monsters several times her size with her massive shield, and in the gap she created, Rossweisse obliterated them with her magic. Their formation, a perfectly split offense and defense, spoke to how intimately the two were used to fighting this way.
Serafall, reassured by their rock-solid tactics, went to town with her signature ice magic, flash-freezing every creature that dared creep close.
A clear, resonant song echoed across the battlefield. A Valkyrie with long, pale pink hair flowing behind her danced through the fray, her spear singing through the air. Just hearing her voice made Kazuki's blood surge with battle-lust, a strange, raw power welling up from within.
A Pegasus streaked across the battlefield at blinding speed. Riding it was a Valkyrie with flowing blonde hair, wielding a single-edged straight blade—a katana, perhaps, and guiding a steed cloaked in wind. In her wake, monsters fell from the sky one after another, their bodies carved clean through.
A Valkyrie with long violet hair leaped from her Pegasus, bounding from one monster to the next like some legendary eight-ship-leaping warrior, slaughtering each with a single, precise stroke. One flash of her sword, and monsters plummeted. Her swordsmanship was absolutely top-tier, among the finest Kazuki had ever witnessed.
Monsters were being hurled through the air as if struck by an invisible freight train.
A Valkyrie with long black hair simply raised her hand, and beasts went flying. It looked like some kind of magic, but to Kazuki, it might as well have been raw fucking telekinesis.
Dragon Rider Gerhilde carved a path with fireballs spat by her crimson Fafnir, then skewered survivors left and right with her spear. That first explosion, Kazuki realized, must have been her mount's handiwork.
Artoria, too, was a terror even in the unfamiliar aerial combat. Every swing of Invisible Air sent another monster crashing down in pieces.
The swarm of over a hundred monsters was just about cleaned out. All that remained was the evil dragon Nidhogg, a beast of jet-black scales whose colossal body rivaled Fenrir in size. It came at them with savage claws and a long, thrashing tail, keeping Artoria and the blonde and violet-haired Valkyries at bay with no easy opening.
Even the fireballs from Gerhilde's Fafnir, Rossweisse's magic, and the black-haired Valkyrie's apparent telekinesis couldn't put a scratch on its armored hide.
Dragons were a goddamn pain in the ass when you were on the wrong side of them. As they struggled to find a way in, Nidhogg reared its head back.
"Everyone scatter! A poison breath is coming!!"
At Gerhilde's shout, they all bolted in every direction. An instant later, Nidhogg spewed its vile breath in a wide, noxious cloud.
One Hraesvelgr that took the brunt of it had its flesh dissolve into rot on the spot, its body stripped to bare bone and plummeting in seconds. The toxicity was beyond monstrous. Just inhaling trace amounts of the dispersed toxin left the Valkyries pale and gasping.
Kazuki's bio-armor, however, seemed to filter the poison entirely; he felt nothing. Which meant he was likely the only one still in full fighting form.
In that case—!
"Here I go! Gravity control, full output!!"
He launched a Gravity Kick, cranking his Guyver's gravity manipulation to its absolute limit. Nidhogg swung its enormous tail to intercept him.
In midair, man and dragon collided with earth-shattering force.
"Guaoooon!!"
Kazuki won. He smashed the tail aside, and before Nidhogg could recover, he latched onto its back. The beast flailed with claws and tail, but with Kazuki clinging to a spot its own bulk couldn't reach, it was fucking helpless!
"It is a sacred blade, the dragon-slaying sword that severs all creation— Come forth, Holy Sword Ascalon!!"
Chanting the holy verse, he summoned Ascalon and began stabbing wildly, over and over, driving the blade deep. Thanks to its dragon-slaying magic, the sword punched through those impossibly tough scales like a hot knife through butter.
"Haaaaaaah!!"
With a fierce battle cry, Kazuki swung Ascalon in a single, devastating arc, cleaving through the base of Nidhogg's neck. A spray of hot blood painted the sky.
"Gyuaaaaaaaann!!"
Screaming in agony, Nidhogg convulsed, trying to throw him off.
'Now—!'
Letting himself be hurled away, Kazuki righted himself midair, then ripped open his chest armor, unleashing the sun housed within his torso.
"Eat this! Mega-Smasherrrrr!!"
A torrent of pure light swallowed Nidhogg whole. When the radiance faded, the colossal evil dragon had been completely obliterated.
"Incredible..."
Rossweisse murmured the word before she even realized she'd spoken.
Nidhogg was the kind of monster that normally took the entire "Nine Sisters" fighting in concert just to bring down. And this man had taken it out entirely on his own...
She couldn't explain it, but her heart had been hammering against her ribs for some time now, and she simply could not tear her eyes away from Kazuki.
Just as Odin told her, this was a man who possessed the "qualifications of a hero." If anyone could become her Einherjar, it would be him...
"I don't mind, as long as Rias gives her permission and she herself desires it. But, I already have seven lovers, so only if you're okay with that."
His words from before surfaced unbidden in her mind. He already had an arranged fiancée in Rias, and on top of that, seven lovers.
But... would a hero of his caliber ever appear before her again?
As she stood there hesitating like that—
"Well done, Kazuki!"
"That was amazing, Kazu-kun! Onee-chan's giving you a kiss!"
Artoria and Serafall latched onto Kazuki the moment he released his armor. And beyond them—
"He's incredible..."
"Indeed. To think he'd solo a Nidhogg..."
"I'm honestly shocked... You're something else, you."
"You're amazing, you! Hey, wanna be my Einherjar?"
"Ah, no fair, Wige!"
"That's right! Everyone deserves an equal chance at the contract!"
"Wait, contract? Contract for what?"
Ortlinde, Gerhilde, Waltraute, Schwertleite, Helmwige, and Siegrune all showered Kazuki with praise. And starting from Wige, they were already plotting to form a contract with him!?
'Now hold on just a minute…' Rossweisse thought.
"Nooooo!! Kazuki-san is my Einherjar!!"
Before Rossweisse even knew what she was doing, she had thrown herself at Kazuki Fuwa, clinging to him right in front of everyone.
