Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Still Quite Greedy at Heart

The most disgusting one is Zoe Wymond. While others might be white flowers, she directly wants to be a fake saint, not only meddling in Miles Crawford's business but also wanting to manage hers.

"Is it your place to give advice on my business with him?" Shea Thorne retorted unceremoniously, "What does it have to do with you?!"

"Wymond, people like her can't understand human language. Leave her to me to handle." Miles Crawford stopped Zoe Wymond.

Shea Thorne's bluntness completely angered Miles Crawford, and he immediately pointed at Shea Thorne's nose and said, "Get out! Don't come to me again! Spend more time reading books; it's good for your brain!"

His words didn't hurt Shea Thorne but deeply wounded Ariana Thorne. She looked at Miles Crawford in disbelief and said, "I applied to F University for you, and yet you talk to me like this?!"

She could have gone to a better school, and although she couldn't reach the National Conservatory of Music, she could still have attended a top music school, which Miles knew. It wasn't that her academic performance was poor at all.

"Yeah, go home and read more books, learn a few more words; otherwise, you won't even understand when people talk." One girl standing by made a snide remark and then deliberately taunted Isla Bishop.

Isla Bishop couldn't stand it and wanted to say more, but sensed something was wrong with Shea Thorne beside her.

She was clutching her chest, covered in sweat, her lips pale from pain. She gripped the edge of the table with all her strength, holding on to the last bit of energy and clarity, and asked Miles Crawford, "Miles, I'm not feeling well. Can you take me back?"

The pain was real, but it was Ariana Thorne speaking now, looking at Miles Crawford as if he were a lifeline, betting everything on this moment.

Miles Crawford, she was in pain.

He had a car; he could send her to the hospital, or like Milo Sinclair, he could perform a simple check on her first.

As long as he treated her a little better, she'd continue to like him.

Miles Crawford wavered a bit and was about to go over when Zoe Wymond said, "Miles, call an ambulance for the little girl. Miss Thorne's symptoms came too suddenly for an ordinary person to handle."

From "little girl" to "Miss Thorne," the implication in Zoe Wymond's words was clear: she wanted Miles Crawford not to get involved with her.

Ariana Thorne only looked at Miles Crawford, her eyes ignoring anyone else. For three lifetimes, she had died directly each time, but it was the first time she encountered such a situation, needing him to lend a hand to save her, and she wasn't sure if he would.

Before, when she was alive, she couldn't bear to make Miles Crawford choose.

Zoe Wymond, having some clinical experience in the lab as a doctor, made it seem as if Shea Thorne was faking her illness, which, coupled with her senior status, made the surrounding students hesitant to step forward.

Seniors might hold grudges; they still needed to survive in the lab afterward and couldn't afford to offend.

Ariana Thorne couldn't hold on any longer and, for the first time, retreated in front of Miles Crawford, letting Shea Thorne take over the body. The pain was still there but not as intense.

Letting go of the edge of the table, she stood up straight, not allowing anyone to look down on her. She kicked the shopping bag containing his clothes at her feet and said to Miles Crawford, "Please tell your mom not to send your things to me anymore. I will soon inform my shameless dad that we father and daughter will sever ties with your family."

While Ariana Thorne was still in her self-imposed isolation, Shea Thorne clarified the matter to prevent her from making a comeback a few days later.

Without looking at Miles Crawford again, Shea Thorne clutched her chest and slowly walked out.

As soon as she walked out, Isla Bishop and two male classmates followed her out, with Isla concerned about Shea Thorne, "You don't look well. How about resting in our lab for a while? We have beds there and can do a quick check on you."

"Don't worry, all of our Professor Aldridge's students are very gentle and won't bully you like those inside did." Isla Bishop assured, noting that today's situation was quite eye-opening and wondered what Professor Sinclair would think when he found out.

The other two male classmates nodded and said, "Sorry, Wymond is our senior. She's quite assertive, so we couldn't speak up for you just now."

Shea Thorne shook her head. At the National Medical University, hierarchy was quite strict, and Zoe Wymond likely had an influential voice in the lab, so they wouldn't dare to offend her easily.

"I'm fine, thank you. I'll go to the hospital for a check-up later. You don't need to worry." She planned to go to the hospital with Milo Sinclair later, and there was no need to trouble others.

Isla Bishop and the two male classmates were still worried, but Shea Thorne was determined, and Zoe Wymond was calling them back to the lab again, so they exchanged glances, resigned to returning to the lab.

The research results submitted in the morning had them scolded harshly by their mentor; now, after the commotion from Shea Thorne, they anticipated a tough day ahead.

...

After making a big detour on the sixteenth floor, Shea Thorne slipped back into Milo Sinclair's office when no one was around. The office was so quiet that she could even hear the students passing in the hallway, mocking her for trying to reach for what she couldn't have.

"Just look at what she is, how can she compare to you, senior? Coming from an unremarkable university, thinking she can captivate men just because of her face. This is good; it proves Miles Crawford isn't the type to be swayed by looks." The voice belonged to the girl who was flattering Zoe Wymond earlier; by the tone of her voice, Zoe must've been right beside her.

Shea Thorne was truly grateful to her, first for acknowledging her looks, and second, she should have rebuked her on behalf of Milo Sinclair since, strictly speaking, it was Milo Sinclair who was that kind of man captivated by looks.

In this perspective, Milo Sinclair loses a point.

"By the way, senior, how are things going with Professor Sinclair? I noticed he seems to be in a lighter mood recently, even dressed more gently today. You should seize the opportunity." The girl continued to flatter, sidestepping Miles Crawford completely, adding, "Senior, your capabilities are exceptional; I believe Professor Sinclair will recognize your worth and be with you soon."

"Just the thought of senior being with Professor Sinclair is enviable..." Her exaggerated praise didn't even prompt a modest denial from Zoe Wymond, who seemed to be enjoying the flattery.

Shea Thorne thought about it, noting how Milo Sinclair didn't wear his usual stark black and white striped suit today but rather a grey knit sweater with stripes. Still, it was in black, white, and grey tones—does that seem gentle?

Who was the one crying after being scolded by Milo Sinclair this morning?

And what does "soon" mean?

Lies with open eyes.

Besides, wasn't Zoe Wymond supposed to like Miles Crawford? How did it become Milo Sinclair? Does she have such advanced thinking that she wants both?

"Don't talk nonsense; this is a school, and such talk about the mentor doesn't leave a good impression." Zoe Wymond attempted to stop her but without much conviction.

"Oh, senior, you're about to become a doctor at their hospital; what impact are you worried about? Your professionalism is top-notch, and being with Professor Sinclair in the future will surely earn everyone's blessings." The girl admired, "I aspire to be like you and learn from you, senior."

Shea Thorne internally mocked, sorry, she's the first one not to give blessings—if Milo Sinclair ends up with Zoe Wymond, then surely wild grass would grow so lush on top that it could be used to graze horses.

Falling in love with a wild horse, and your head is filled with plains.

However, Zoe Wymond's method of catching men is quite effective; didn't she have Miles Crawford wrapped around her finger?

Before they could walk past Milo Sinclair's office door, another voice joined in.

"Senior, wait a moment." It was Miles, followed by the sound of running. The soles of his shoes made no sound, but there was a faint vibration from the motion.

"I'm sorry about earlier, for causing you to be misunderstood. How about I treat you to lunch?" Miles spoke apologetically, "Originally, I wanted you to try my mom's dried fish, but now it's gone... sorry."

As soon as Shea Thorne heard Miles' voice, she got up from the bed and leaned against the office door, forcibly pulling Ariana Thorne out to listen. Yesterday evening in the dormitory, the awkward situation was sparked by the senior wanting to try the dried fish.

The pain in her chest suddenly surged again, and Shea Thorne endured it hard, needing to let her face the harsh reality and the callousness of a scumbag.

"It's okay, didn't I just have a taste earlier? Auntie's cooking is really good, quite delicious." Zoe Wymond said gently like a big sister, "Aren't you going to check on the little girl? She seemed quite heartbroken."

"No need, she's just like that. She'll be fine in a couple of days." Miles casually laughed, suggesting, "I've got a car; how about I take you guys for some Japanese food?"

The two girls happily agreed, and no refusal was heard from Zoe Wymond, only the faint sound of footsteps gradually fading away.

They left, mocking her as they went.

But Shea Thorne wanted to ridicule Miles even more. He eagerly chased after them to invite them to eat, but what their hearts were thinking about was Milo Sinclair.

Milo Sinclair currently had her on his mind; could that be seen as her having a slight advantage?

The A-Q spirit, healing everything.
