Souki's Perspective
The voices of students bounced between the crowded lockers and the open gym doors. The noise was a constant, low roar, but the one person I was looking for was nowhere to be found. A small knot of disappointment tightened in my chest. I guess he didn't come to the sleepover after all, I thought.
"Hm... where is he? I thought he said he'd be here…"
Third Person Perspective
The sports wing was pure chaos. Laughter spilled from the classrooms and the gym buzzed with electric excitement. Suddenly, the overhead speakers crackled to life, cutting through the din with the booming, overly energetic voice of the principal.
"Hello, students! I hope you're all having a fantastic day!" He paused for dramatic effect. "Today is our annual school sleepover!"
The volume dropped as he leaned closer to the mic, his voice falling into a conspiratorial whisper that echoed through the halls. "There is a hidden prize tucked away in one of the classrooms. You have exactly ten minutes to find it... starting now!"
The speakers cut out with a sharp static pop. For a heartbeat, there was total silence… then the hallways erupted. Students bolted in every direction, a frantic scramble of footsteps and shouting as the hunt began.
Kiori giggled, grabbing Yukiri's hand and dragging her along. When Kiori looked back with a bright, genuine smile, it felt like Yukiri's heart was melting. But the moment was shattered when a pair of arms suddenly wrapped around Yukiri from behind.
"Ah! what the- Damian...?" Yukiri gasped.
She stared at him in total shock while he just grinned like an idiot. "Sis! Missed me? I looked for you everywhere!"
Yukiri remained frozen in place, until Kiori stepped in. With a firm shove, Kiori pushed Damian away. He stumbled back, a look of genuine hurt and shock crossing his face.
Yukiri let out a long, heavy sigh, looking instantly exhausted. "Kiori, this is Damian. Damian, Kiori."
Kiori didn't lower her guard, growling at him. "Don't you know she doesn't like being touched? And don't sneak up on her she gets jumpy easily."
Just as a fight was about to break out, Yukiri stepped between them. "Kiori, I'm okay with it. Damian, I hate you."
Damian's eyes flickered. Was it hurt? Or anger?
Kiori's ears twitched, her body tensing as if she were about to scold him or maybe even attack again. Damian immediately dove behind Yukiri like a coward. "Wait! Wait! I-I'm the son of the principal. I just came to see her! I can help you guys find the treasure!"
Kiori only seemed to get angrier. "You're just trying to bribe me! You, uhm jerk!"
The two of them clearly weren't going to be friends anytime soon. Eventually, they reached a truce, Damian will give small hints to where the suprises are, Kiori promised not to hit him, and Yukiri... well, she just had to exist in the middle of it.
Yukiri's Perspective
They're finally quiet. Thank seyuki.
Damian has grown taller... how unfair. His hair is longer, too. Whatever, not my problem. I should focus on looking for those golden boxes. Damian said they might be hidden inside lockers or tucked under desks. He said his dad has a thing for hiding things there.
Kiori's ears have been up since the second he showed up. She's still so tense. Looking at them, I couldn't help but think... they'd actually make a cute couple.
Third person perspective
Yukiri tripped, but as she hit the floor, her hand brushed against something cold the box, tucked right under the chair. She called out, "Hey! I found it! It's righ—"
She didn't get to finish her sentence before Damian came crashing down right beside her, with Kiori pinned him down, on top of him.
"I hate you, whatever-your-name-is! You jerk!" Kiori shrieked.
Yukiri looked like she was officially done with both of them. Without a word, she reached out with her mana, lifting both of them off the ground and suspending them in mid air.
Kiori fumbled in the air, legs kicking as she screamed, "Let me at him!"
Damian just laughed, his hair a mess from the scuffle.
"Jeez, you two are heavy." Yukiri mumbled.
That only made Kiori angrier. "Are you saying I'm fat?!" she yelled, struggling even harder against the invisible grip of Yukiri's mana.
Before anything else could happen, the hall monitor stepped in, looking stern. "You! You aren't one of the students. Who are you? And Kiori! Shut up!"
The chaos followed them all the way to the main sports hall. Once they arrived, Yukiri handed the box over to the principal, not sparing a single word for her brother or Kiori before turning to leave.
"Name Yukiri, freshman," she said bluntly. "I'll get whatever the gift is later."
And with that, she simply walked away.
Yukiri's Perspective
I hid in the bathroom for… who knows how long. Now, it was finally time for this weird sleepover event. I peeked out of the door, eyeing the sleeping bags scattered everywhere. Loud music thumped from the gym and giggles drifted out of the classrooms, but the hallways themselves remained eerily empty.
Third Person Perspective
Yukiri stumbled as she stepped out, falling hard to her knees. The distant chatter of students filled the air, a constant hum in the background. Just as she was about to push herself up, a surge of bluish-purple mana wrapped around her, lifting her off the floor. It was a hue she had never seen before.
Standing before her was a boy, roughly her age. "You're Yukiri, right? I'm Zane nice to meet you. I'm one of Damian's buddies. He's been looking everywhere for you."
Yukiri scrambled in mid air, her limbs flailing. "It would be nice if you put me down! Or at least lower me! Why did you raise me so high?!"
Zane laughed, clearly enjoying her struggle. "Hahaha! What, are you scared of heights or something?"
Yukiri's face flushed a deep, indignant crimson as she dangled several feet off the polished linoleum floor. Her sneakers kicked uselessly at the empty air, the blue purple mana shimmering around her like a ghostly tether.
"I'm not scared of heights, I'm scared of dropping!" she snapped, though her voice lacked its usual composure.
Zane finally relented, his grin widening as he flicked his wrist. The magical aura dissipated with a soft hum, lowering her until her soles finally met the solid, comforting ground. Yukiri immediately stumbled back, smoothing out her clothes and casting a wary glance at the stranger.
Before he could say anything she rushed away.
"Hey! I found you fair and square! Come back here!"
Yukiri ran until she found Kiori in one of the classrooms with her friends. They were gossiping until Yukiri rushed in, breathless. "Kiori, some random guy is chasing me! Please help!"
Behind her, Zane skidded into the room, panting and trying to explain that he was innocent. However, he froze the second he saw a furious Kiori standing there.
"Whoever you are, leave my best friend alone!" she barked.
Zane didn't even hear what she said; he was completely mesmerized by her…
