Chapter 22 - Descent into Arclight Dominion

Aiden stood on the wind-swept balcony of the Veyloris Skyport, the highest transit hub in the Meridian Belt. Above him, sleek skycrafts glided through shimmering force lanes, each leaving trails of blue ion light across the night.

The storm over the city had weakened into a soft drizzle, but the air still crackled with residual energy from the Seabrine Distortion. People moved through the terminal with hushed urgency—whispers, nervous glances, the tension of a world that sensed something was wrong but didn't yet understand.

Aiden ignored it all.

He had a ticket in his hand, though it was unnecessary.

The AstraCore Spire owned the entire skyrail he was about to board.

The craft—The Argent Vyre—hovered at the platform entrance, its hull gleaming with silver plating and pulsating blue channels that marked it as one of the fastest sky-vessels produced within the Dominion's trade network.

The vessel was capable of crossing half the continent in three hours—something humanity before the apocalypse would never have imagined.

Aiden stepped onto the boarding ramp just as the Yuan Spirit drifted beside him.

"You are tense," the spirit observed.

Aiden let out a slow breath.

"Because the world is moving too quickly. Faster than I accounted for."

The spirit hummed gently.

"Then adapt faster. Faster than time itself."

Aiden cracked a tired smile.

"That's the plan."

The doors closed behind him with a soft hiss, sealing him inside the craft's luxurious private cabin. Smooth metallic walls, ambient silver lighting, a projection console embedded into the table—every inch felt clean, cold, efficient.

He sank into the seat as the Argent Vyre hummed to life.

A gentle vibration shuddered beneath him.

Then the entire craft tilted upward.

Aiden watched the city fall away beneath them.

Veyloris looked serene from above—glittering lights, enormous spires, skyroads crisscrossing the air like glowing threads. The chaos of the Seabrine news yet to fully take root. The world was still pretending everything was normal.

But the calm wouldn't last.

The Argent Vyre shot forward, entering a shimmering Ionstream Corridor that cut through the sky like a ribbon of light.

The pilot's voice rang through the speakers:

"Next stop: Arclight Dominion. Estimated travel time: two hours and forty minutes."

Aiden closed his eyes.

Two hours forty minutes…

That was enough time to plan.

He activated the projection console. A holographic map sprang up—detailing Arclight Dominion and its capital, Arclight Haven.

Tall, storm-forged towers.

Coastal fortresses.

The Titan Reactor Rims—massive, circular structures that harnessed lightning storms to power the region.

A militarized society known for its ruthlessness and efficiency.

In his past life, Arclight Haven had been one of the last cities to fall.

It burned bright until the very end.

Aiden expanded the map, highlighting a coordinate near the outskirts, marked with a pulsating red glyph.

ANOMALY PROJECTION: ARCLIGHT HAVEN — 72 HOURS

"That soon?" he muttered.

The Yuan Spirit hovered closer.

"In your former timeline, yes. But with the Seabrine Distortion accelerating, the anomaly may occur sooner."

Aiden rubbed his temples.

"I know."

Thunder rolled beneath the craft as it passed through a bank of clouds.

The Argent Vyre shimmered as lightning danced across its protective barrier, illuminating the cabin in white flashes.

Aiden stared out at the horizon.

A vast expanse of dark mountains came into view—the Stormrend Peaks, jagged silhouettes against the roiling sky. Beyond them lay the Arclight Dominion, glowing faintly under layers of perpetual storm.

"You have a connection to this place," the Yuan Spirit said quietly.

Aiden didn't answer at first.

Then…

"Yes," he admitted. "Arclight was where the second Paragon died."

The spirit's form stilled.

"Ineb?"

"No."

Aiden's voice dropped lower.

"Ineb died in the final battlefield. But before that… Paragon Khaelor fell here. He held the line alone when the Entities breached the Dominion."

The spirit hummed.

"Your memory of him seems… personal."

Aiden's jaw tightened.

"He saved me once."

A silence fell over the cabin.

Aiden did not elaborate. Some memories were still wounds, not stories.

The hologram shifted again, showing the pattern of emerging anomalies across the world map.

Aiden studied them carefully.

The Distortion at Seabrine Arcology…

And now the swelling energy beneath Arclight Haven…

"This pattern shouldn't be happening," Aiden whispered. "In the past, the Entities used these events to weaken the world before the invasion. But the timing is different. Earlier. More aggressive."

The Yuan Spirit responded:

"They have sensed Ineb's essence. They are reacting to you."

Aiden froze.

"Me?"

"You carry a signature no Entity can ignore. The last Paragon's essence is inside your soul. They are searching for it—searching for you."

A surge of cold ran through Aiden's body.

"So I'm their target now."

"Yes. And if you are not careful, they may accelerate events even further."

Aiden leaned back in his seat, gazing out into the swirling sky.

"So I have to outpace the apocalypse itself."

"Correct."

He smirked faintly.

"Good. I prefer it that way."

The projector chimed, flashing a message:

INTERNATIONAL NEWS UPDATE

THE SEABRINE DISTORTION SPREADS

ENERGY SURGES DETECTED ACROSS THE MERIDIAN BELT

Aiden watched as commentators panicked, analysts speculated, and nations began quietly mobilizing military forces.

The world was beginning to feel the tremors of what was coming.

The Argent Vyre dipped lower through turbulence, entering the outer boundary of Arclight Dominion airspace. The sky grew darker, thicker with storm energy. Lightning webs coiled across the clouds like living serpents.

Aiden sat up straighter.

"Approaching Arclight Haven," the pilot announced.

The clouds broke.

And the sight stole Aiden's breath.

Arclight Haven rose from the earth like a fortress carved from thunder.

Enormous Stormplate Towers circled the city, glowing with arcs of lightning that crackled up their metallic surfaces.

The central district—The Aegis Spire—pierced the clouds, crowned with a ring of rotating reactor conduits that hummed with violent energy.

Storm baffles lit the skyline in brilliant cobalt flashes.

It was a city born from war.

Built for war.

Living in stormlight.

Aiden whispered:

"Just like I remember."

The Yuan Spirit's glow softened.

"And yet… different."

Aiden nodded.

Everything was changing.

The future was no longer following the script he remembered.

Which meant every decision now mattered more than ever.

The Argent Vyre descended toward the city's landing array.

As the docking clamps locked onto the craft, Aiden stood and tightened his coat.

"Arclight Haven…" he murmured. "Let's see if your fate can change this time."

The door hissed open.

Stormlight spilled inside.

And Aiden stepped into the Dominion where the next anomaly awaited him.
