Especially this time, he even saw Zoddhiss.
He hadn't expected Zoddhiss to return to Earth.
What he also hadn't quite expected was that his youngest son's jealousy and tsundere streak had already kicked in. Odin, advanced in years and still fond of sleeping in now and then—even in slumber able to hear and see a great many things—sensed that his idiot son had returned to Asgard, and knew that if he slept any longer, the household might get wrecked even more thoroughly. It was time to wake up.
"So what exactly is the situation right now?"
After Zoddhiss returned, Nick Fury came knocking.
"The conflict in Asgard isn't as terrifying as you imagine. Because Odin is still alive, the flames of war won't reach Earth. Although, I imagine after you reported the existence of alien civilizations, those military superpowers are already feeling pretty threatened."
Fury's face instantly darkened. It wasn't just feeling threatened—they'd even got strategic nuclear missiles ready at this point, giving Fury the distinct impression an interstellar war was about to break out.
"The crown prince of Asgard has a favorable impression of Earth. He's explicitly said he'll form an alliance with Earth."
As he spoke, Zodd pointed at Foster, who was sitting up front, staring blankly at the sky.
"Because Thor likes this Earth woman. Asgardians are a long-lived race, so Odin is bound to refuse a short-lived species like Foster becoming Thor's wife. But if it's only a hundred years… I think Odin won't mind too much."
Fury looked deeply at Foster's back.
"In other words, within a hundred years, Asgard will be Earth's ally, and the one holding that alliance steady is Jane Foster."
Over in Asgard, those two spendthrift sons should be just about done fighting by now. But Thor hadn't come back to see Foster right away. Either those prodigals had smashed the Bifrost, or he was busy handling the kingdom's aftermath. And seeing Foster waiting like that—maybe a little adorably foolish—well, that's just how love goes.
